View 2 Replies View RelatedI switched to Kubuntu with the upgrade to Lucid. After a couple updates, I started getting a "Gnome looking" unlock screen on my desktop at start-up. I get the regular KDE keyring password request and a second that looks like the Gnome keyring. I don't know how this happened. I checked in Synaptic and found the gnome-keyring was installed. Can I uninstall this or will that cause problems?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI know it's safer not to block the request for a password that unblocks the keyring but I'm desperate.
The more I use ubuntu more times I'm requested to provide the keyring password. Now, this time, i've typed 7 times!
is there a way to limit this nighmare. Every time I bootup i got tired.
After I've booted my machine I can browse the internet over my wireless network just fine, but when I start Evolution email it prompts for my admin password beforeonnecting to ISPCan I automate / avoid my respnse to this password prompt ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince loading Lucid I keep getting pestered with a request to provide a password as the screen is blank.When installing Lucid and applying the Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras the screen went blank during the process and again there was the need to provide a password.Is there some way that I can avoid this continuous need to keep providing this information? It tends to be a pain in the backside.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer is recently asking for my 'default keyring password'to get access to the internet. It never used to do this as I am single user and never created a keyring password as far as I know. I dont even use a login password.Luckily i tried my administrator password and that unlocks my keyring but I would like to get it back to no password or auto unlock mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I user wants to navigate through the internet, he must first give his username and password. The password is sent in clear text. I would like to encrypt this using SSL (or an other solution already integrated in Squid). Is this possible in Squid?I read that "user_cert" option can do this, but I couldn't configure it.I have: acl myacl user_cert src 192.168.1.5Which gives: "aclParseAclLine: Invalid ACL type 'user_cert'"The other solution is probably tunneling, but I don't want to install special software on the client machines
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can click to close a program to close it and it will lock. No matter what I do; (click on EDIT OR FILE, etc, the system will lock. This happens several times each day. I shut down using ALT + SYSRQ + R, S, E, I, U, then B for a soft shutdown. I have used Ubuntu before, but this is a fresh install after having problems with the computer. Computer is a Dell 2400.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from centos to fedora as my server choice. Probably not the best decision but I like trying new things. Now before I switched I had my samba server setup just they way I wanted it. Now I'm having a hard time getting it back to that way. Here is my smb.conf
Code:
[global]
workgroup = workgroup
netbios name = netbios name
server string = Linux Server
security = user
wins support = yes
encrypt passwords = Yes
domain logons = yes
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
valid users = %S
[me]
path = /home/me
read only = no
public = yes
create mask = 0777
directory mask = 0777
browseable = yes
writable = yes
Now I did throw away my old smb.conf because it wasn't that complicated and I figured I could reproduce it.. aside from that everything is working except for the fact that I can access any share I want to listed without it requesting a password. I have a username and password setup with smbpasswd and I think everything else is setup correctly involving samba shares but I have no idea why it won't request a password.
I'm trying to make a script that will copy over the settings file for firefox everytime firefox is closed. What would be the best way to go about doing this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get a program to automatically reload if I accidentally close it. This is a remote access program, so it has to be relaunched without me doing anything to help it along if it crashes or I accidentally close it. I noticed that someone came up with a way to solve this back in 2007 [URL].. but the files don't appear to exist any more for it to work. how I might get a program to automatically reload on exit?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a reverse SSH tunnel to log into my university machine from home. In order to do so, i start the java client that let me have ssh access to my university machine (since is behind a nat), then start the ssh -R command. However the java client is defective and brings my firefox to 99% cpu and ram leak, If I close the java client, i also lose the ssh -R tunnel and the connection. I tried to give disown, but again when the TTy is closed i also lose the tunnel. Is there any way to make it persistent? at least for an hour once i have closed the java client?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.

I'm trying to find password programs for Linux and Android that I can sync together. If that is not possible, maybe they can export and import the same file type. Right now I use OISafe on Android and Revelation on Linux, but I can't get them to work together. Without trying all the different password programs on each system, I was wondering if anyone here has accomplished this. If so which programs are you using and how do you sync the data?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere where some updates for 10.04.1 yesterday, after I installed them, a few hours later I restarted my machine as new headers and kernel files where downloaded.So this morning, when I come in, I wanted to check my software sources as I saw something a little odd yesterday.When I try to start that program; I am asked for my administrator password. Not the password I use for administrative tasks; which is what I am generally asked for.Anyone else seeing this? And if so, what happened. The admin account I have setup is My account, I am the only person on the machine. In the past I have entered my password and carried on; not this morning. Not sure what is happening; but I have not setup an actual admin account / password.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to make an all in one program splash screen for ubuntu.
the idea behind this is, I have alot of staff at my store who will be using a system system for a few programs, but almost none of them have any real use of ubuntu.
What I would like to do is have them log in and instead of seeing the desktop have a splash screen pop up with the program choices they can use, all in one place.
I have ubuntu 11.04 installed along side windows. And I often share files with windows computers. If I am installing a new package from ubuntu software center, and consquently I have to log in as root to do so, which means I have given the system 'privileges' as the program is being installed, I decide to go open mozilla, and surf suspicious sites on the net. Is it possible in that case for me to get a virus?
When we enter the password for the root user in order to run one program such as ubuntu software center, does that mean that all programs have root privileges for the time being (as the software center is installing the program)?
I have a couple of encrypted external hard drives that I have to mount with realcrypt.The thing is, to start realcrypt I always need to put in my root password, which is kind of a drag.I have combed the internet for information and the most sensible solutions always pointed to do a visudo edit.There were a few things I tried, but none of them seem to work.This is the last iteration - I put in all realcrypt files i could find, which I suppose shouldn't be necessary but desperate times call for desperate measures, right?
