View 4 RepliesWhen I open the minecraft.jar file with p7zip on Linux, I can't delete the META-INF folder.
This is the error:

I have looked around almost everywhere for a way to run Minecraft on my PowerPC with Maverick, but nothing seems to be working. I'm not sure if it's a problem with getting Java on here (which I can't seem to do without it saying you have to have some other Java file there, or something) or a problem with liblwjgl.so (which is apparently not compiled correctly for PPCs).

Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem.
I'm trying to run minecraft.jar. The download page states that the .jar is executable, but when I try to run it it's as if it was a tarball rather than an executable file. I don't want to extract anything, I want to run it. I tried the instructions on the website: Code: java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame but that didn't work, and I got this error:

I am trying to download and play minecraft and i cant for the life of me get java so is there and apt-get's I can use to find java?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying out the old, free version of Minecraft, and I cannot seem to be able to move. If I press F9, I sometimes get an options screen, and sometimes not. I have F9 bound to scale in Compiz, though I had the same problem with Metacity. If I press any of the movement keys, I do not move, though I can use my mouse. I'm using sun-java6-plugin.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi cant get minecraft to work on kubuntu i found a thread that helped install a different java but i am unable to complete the install because i can not press ok for some reason.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded an old save that i used when I used to use windows, i switched over to ubuntu and i want to use it again, but i have no clue where Minecraft stores its saves, i know in windows it was the "appdata" folder.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fully automate a Minecraft server, and I decided to use Ubuntu 11.04 on this computer. The computer I'm using for it is an old computer (it's the old family PC, it's about 5 years old (and running amazingly now that I've formatted the hard drive (compared to how it used to run))) so it won't run the Unix environment (or something like that) and runs the Gnome environment instead.
Anyways; the server auto-starts when my computer turns on (my computer also automatically turns on). Now all I need to do is have my computer auto-shutdown at 12:00AM as well as enter the command "stop" into the running terminal. I plan to later add more commands (such as automatically welcoming people to the server when they connect, but that's not important right now and I'll likely be able to figure out if I can get this working).
This is the command I'm using to shutdown the computer:
sudo shutdown -P 24:00
However, it doesn't work. First of all, I need to enter my password, so I need some way to have the shell file enter my password for me whenever the terminal asks for it. Second of all, it just plan doesn't work, even if I enter my password (like, the countdown doesn't appear). As for entering commands into the terminal, the only way I can think of is:echo "stop" But the problem is that doesn't work because it wont enter into the running terminal (and I don't know how to do that).
each and everytime I close Minecraft window it puts my 1024x768 15" screen from 75hz to 60hz and this occurs EVERYTIME I close Minecraft, I have tried uninstalling then re-installing Minecraft.

OS: Ubuntu 11.04 x86
CPU: Intel core i5 sandy bridge 2410M
GPU: Intel HD 3000 (Integrated)
RAM: 8 gigs ddr3
So I got my new laptop a few days ago, loaded up ubuntu. After starting up minecraft to connect to my server I realised that the fps was going from 50 to 1 and back to 50 again EVERY SECOND so obviously this isn't normal. After a quick google search every one on windows seems to have no problem. There are no results for linux.
Edit: Yes I know why the are you using a x86 os on a computer with 8 gigs of ram? At the time of installation all I had was no internet access and a live cd from LUD with ubuntu on it
I recently loaded up my old powermac g3 with debian 6.0 PPC, and it seems to be running quite good. I control it using ssh from my windows 7 box. I installed default-jre, so I could run the minecraft server on there.
I've got two questions: I installed Openvpn, but I'm a bit confused on how to use it.. I want people to be able to connect to my vpn network over the internet, what configuration should I use, and could someone maybe link me a decent step by step tutorial?
secondly, when I tried to launch the server, it tried to generate a new map, but this is taking ages! on my desktop computer, it only took two seconds, but after over half an hour, it only got to 20% of "preparing spawn area" what could be wrong with this? Any reason why the java virtual machine would have performance issues? I have no clue.. I haven't tried copying over my smp map from my windows box yet, and launching that.. but I doubt performance will be any better. (my windows 7 machine is hosting at the moment for about 10 people)
I'm on Ubuntu and I don't lag none the less at all. Is there a goood video tool that can help me record minecraft with little to no lag at all? Or some trick because I think I set my java priority higher than usual. I have only 2GB of RAM

I can run Minecraft if I log in to su but I have a user to whom I do not wish to give su permission. If I try to run Minecraft from the terminal without signing into su first, I get a lot of error messages that I do not understand. I think it might have something to do with having to give the user permission to run java but I am not sure.
Here is the output:

I just changed my sound profile in the sound preferences menu to Analog Surround 5.1 Output, and now since doing that, Flash player in Firefox has no sound and when I play Minecraft there is also no sound. Sound was working before I did this. I have tried reverting back to the previous settings, but that did not work. I tried rebooting, but no successes from that either. Also, when I test my speakers through sound preferences, they work. System sounds also work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was using Minecraft and it was working just fine, but then I got a rather common error. The fix is always to switch over to java sun. I did this, but now it has a black screen when I start the game. I realized after this that I hadn't tried simply reinstalling minecraft. reinstalling it did not fix the new problem. Can anyone tell me either how to switch back to jdk or how to fix the black screen?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to make a script that specifies how much ram to launch minecraft server with, so far I have:Code:read $ra
java -Xmx$raM -Xms$raM -jar minecraft_server.jar noguibut I knowthat that won't work because there is the M at the end of the variable $ra, is there a way I could make this work? I believe that the M at the end is required to specify the measurement unit.
When I run a java application (minecraft) the computer occasionally freezes. I'm not sure which version of Java I have. The online java app for telling you which version I have says that I have an old version. The command line says I have an up to date version. If I need to update Java Sun , how do I do it ? I followed the instructions once and didn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy issue is fairly simple, I just want to play Minecraft, which requires Java. I tried installing it with the Java website instructions and then with a sudo apt-get install command. I believe the problem is simply a plugin issue with Firefox. Anyway, the distro is Ubuntu 10.04 if that helps.

Can i run Rocket Dock on Ubuntu or does Ubuntu have a similiar built in feature. And is there a possibilty of Rift and Minecraft running worse on ubuntu than they do on my crappy xp os? 1. a decent screen recorder where i can crop to my designated x and y co-ordinates.
2. how will i record my voice and my partners voice via skype.
3. a good video editing software, where i can pan/crop and upload to videos with full 720p hd.
When increasing or decreasing the screen brightness, Minecraft crashes and to an extent freezes my computer UI. What I mean by to an extent is that I can move the cursor around, but I can't click on anything. I can also run keyboard shortcuts and type, which is how I restore my system by terminating all java processes with pkill.
What causes minecraft to crash and how can I solve it?

I installed Fedora 15 last week, on my main PC, and I absolutely love it. Defintely my favourite operating system. Now I have a few questions. I thought I would put them all in one thread, instead of making seperate ones. I did search before I posted, and I cant seem to find any solution to my problems. So here it goes.
First question, I am using evolution for my e-mail program/client. My email addresses are all hosted by hotmail. Now I have set them all up correctly, but cant seem to send e-mails(I recieve them perfectly fine). I am using the "smtp.live.com" server, and using SSL encryption. I have tried messing with the settings but have had no luck. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?
Second question, I play minecraft frequently, and I am currently starting the program via terminal [java -jar /home/username/minecraft.jar], which works flawlessly. However it is too slow(open terminal, type it in. I need a simple click), is there any other way to start minecraft?
Third and last question, What is the best way to close minecraft? I notice if I just close it(via right click, and close, or clicking the X) it freezes and stays open for a long time. Is there any better way to close it?
Today, I was trying to compile and install a minecraft mapper with the program "make". I navigated to the directory in terminal and ran make. It found the make file and begins to work, then spits an error and stops. To be specific, this was the error:
Code:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Linux, so I decided to try using Wubi to get started. THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..
