View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been using linux for several years now, and given that I get banshee running I can completely do away with Micro$ux . But here is where I've run into a bit of a problem. Obviously since I'm running slackware I know that the package manager will not have every program I want. I also know that when I build a package from source there will be some dependencies I do not have, and I need to adapt and overcome. I've been working away at the dependencies for a couple hours, and one is killing me "taglib-sharp 2.0.3.7".
I downloaded that exact package (as it is the newest version) and installed from source (simple "./configure && make && make install"). Worked just fine, seemed to have installed with no errors during make and no missing dependencies during config. That would lead me to believe it installed, however the configure script for banshee is still complaining that it can't find any taglib-sharp at all. So I redownloaded the source and tried again to no avail. Below is the exact output of the banshee config (though it's just as you'd expect).

I just installed Fedora 12 on a rack computer. I know my screen has the ability to show 1600x1200 pixels. But I don't know what my video card can do. Right now my screen is stuck at 800x600. When I had Fedora 11 I remember it could go to 1024x768 or maybe a little larger. I can't really find a driver for the ATI RageXL, How to make the screen resolution as high as possible.

My HP Laptop screen is 18.4 in diameter and the only two resolutions that work are the highest a 1920x1080 which is too small for me or 1360x768 which is perfect. That res is no longer available in the latest Nvidia driver.

I was having a problem even loading my distro. It turns out I accidently installed wrong drivers (nvidia while I have an Itel chip set) So everytime NVIDIA tried to load it's module and screen setting, it forced a check (fsck) because it couldn't find anything for NVIDIA. I booted in recovery, Changed configuration. # commented out the NVIDIA section, and changed NVIDIA to intel in the display section. Which seems to have worked because it now loads without me having to go into recovery mode, however my screen is abnormaly large and I can only see the center of the desktop. Leaving me unable to reach the panel and change the settings.

I have fedora 12 and I tried to change the screen resolution under the system menu to a higher one and it changed but now I dont have any menus and I'm not sure if I can use quick keys to go back to the display preferences to reset the screen resolution. Is there anyway I could run the display preferences by running a command in the bash shell or is there a quick key that allows menu access.

I cant seem to get my sharp tv connected to my compaq presario cq50. by hdmi
I followed this:
1. I connected the HDMI cable to my laptop with the TV already on (my laptop was on too).
2. Went to NVIDIA X Server Settings, then to X Server Display Configuration and on the Display Tab I chose my TV (Samsung) as the "model", then configure it so that the TwinView mode was switched on, then I changed the resolution to 1920x1080, position: absolute and then I checked the box "Make this the primary display for the X server" (I guess this is what I was missing in the first place).
3. Clicked on Apply and then my TV started to show what I was doing on my laptop.
My computers reading the tv but when i click apply its still blank and i lose my mouse and boarders on my computer

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter seeing how good netflix movies looked over a wireless connection I decided to pull out an old desktop to see if I could up a basic media player . I loaded Ubuntu 10.4 and was impressed how fast and clean the computer ran. I also downloaded the latest version of boxee. I was disappointed with the quality of video; video was not very sharp, there were square blocks(pixelated) in dark areas of the picture. At this point I am trying to decide if the poor quality is due to my video card, boxee, CPU or if I am expecting too much from web content. should I just a browser or VLC. Naturally I would like to spend little money and use what I have. If however my hardware is not salvageable for what I want to use it for, I would like to know. Any opinions?

We are attempting to convert our entire office over to Linux, however we are experiencing some printing challenges. We have a Sharp-AR-M205 connected to our network that handles the bulk of our regular printing needs. Linux picks this up from the network and installs the driver (Sharp AR-M205 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended)) without difficulty. We can print from gedit & OpenOffice without difficulties. The difficulty is when printing images, webpages with image content, or PDFs.
Then the printing spool goes into "LPR ..." printing mode and takes between 5-20 minutes to print a single page. This is particularly problematic as each week we put out a simple publication for our organization, designed in Scribus, outputted to PDF and sent to the printer from 200-300 copies. Our workaround has been to leave a workstation as an XP machine to print the PDF each week.
I'm running openSUSE 11.4 in KDE and Gnome. To me it looks like Gnome has more or less correct font rendering. At least for what I can see the fonts look good. The problem is in KDE, I tried about every tutorial I could find to make the fonts look good but still it's not like it is shown in Windows. In windows the fonts are crystal clear and sharp. In KDE it looks like I'm working on a prehistoric system. Why do the fonts look really impressive during the installation of opensuse in Yast and ugly after the installation? Is there a way to make the font rendering in KDE look like Windows 7 or Vista?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn 10.04 on a Shuttle the screen position is a few pixels off. I fix this with xvidtune for the session. I also get a new modeline. I build a new xorg.conf file (go virtual terminal, stop gdm, Xorg -configure, etc) and move it to /etc/X11. I introduce the modeline in the monitor section and reboot (I could do a service gdm stop...). Guess what, my screen is still a few pixels off. The documentation clearly states that if there is an Xorg.conf, it will be used. So what gives?
This problem has existed since the xorg.conf file was dropped. It is just plain silly that one has to engage in a geeky treasure hunt to correct a few pixels. This adjustment should be present in the System/Preferences/Montors. This is why Linux does not make it with ordinary users, making (superficially) simple things difficult.
I have a new installation of Karmic 9.10 up and running but for some reason my Nvida Quadro NVS 280 SD graphics card can not align my Sony SDM-HX73 monitor correctly. On the left I'm missing 10 or 15 pixels and on the right I have a thin black strip of unusable screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEee PC 1005HA : Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix, using Desktop Edition at login screen, using Awn in place of Unity: No clue what's causing this. Menu pixels freeze, remain on top of windows. Cursor floats over, but interacts with the actual active window. Can't move it. This has happened several times now, but usually only lasts a few minutes. At the time of this post, these pixels have been frozen for at least 20 minutes. Relogging fixes the problem, but logging out and in again every time this happens isn't really an option.

Green pixels appear on about 20% of the plasma screen; some jump around others stay in one place. I have a nvidia GeForce 7600 GT card. The nvidia restricted drivers are installed. I also tried using a mythbuntu live cd and had the same problems. Is this a problem with a bad cable, bad driver, wrong setup, or something else? How can I get rid of the green pixels?

However, on my desktop, the screen resolution doesn't match the Ubuntu desktop and fonts and graphics are very blurry. The hardware I have is:

Samsung 23" widescreen monitor, native resolution 1680x1050
When I check the resolution using System > Preferences > Display it says that indeed I'm using 1680x1050, which should be correct. However, the bottom of the Ubuntu desktop is cut-off, below the bottom of the screen, so I can only see the very top edge of the bottom panel. The top panel is also slightly cut off, missing about the top 20% of the panel. Left and right seem to be in line OK. The resulting blurriness of fonts makes it fairly unusable until I get it fixed.
I've searched fairly extensively and I realise there are other threads on this so sorry for posting again, but they all seem to be slightly different problems and all the responses are fairly or very technical. Maybe I can't avoid a technical solution and getting my hands dirty with a terminal prompt, but I'm hoping I can fix this without resorting to stuff I don't understand and might get wrong. I'm a technically minded end-user but not a unix guy.
I recently downloaded Ubuntu 9.1 and burned it to a CD. However, I can't seem to get it to boot. I got to the main menu and selected to run it directly from CD, and the Ubuntu symbol showed up saying it was loading things, but then the screen went black and nothing happened even if I waited over 15 minutes. During this time the HDD light was flashing every second or two, and I could see about three white pixels at the top most row of the screen.

I would like to make and play videos at this resolution, but software decode is too slow, and the GPU accelerated decode (VDPAU) maxes out at 2048 pixels. It might be possible to decode 2Kx2K and cut-and-paste and reorganize the rectangles to fill 2560x1600. But someday I plan on getting a 4K screen (4096x2160 pixels) and I would like to support that too. For that it seems two video streams decoded by two GPUs and exactly synchronized would work.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu studio and it seems to be working fine but i'm having an issue where the both the left and right side edges of my laptop monitor are unresponsive/unclickable for about two pixels all the way down. it's a minor issue that i could probably get used to, but it's particularly annoying when trying to use a scroll bar in firefox or any other window that when maximized would have it just against the right side of the screen. instead of simply swiping the cursor all the way to the right i have to stop just short of the edge in order to use the scroll bar/any other function.
