I've been trying to download GIMP and Thunderbird, so... I dunno what the problem is.

What needs to go into the Sources file to get around this? I used to have a gui for doing this, but Maverick appears to have scribbled this as well.

Pretty much everything I have tried says it requires download from untrustworthy source. All installed fine on my laptop. I am running natty narwahl on this computer and 10.10 on my laptop.

Jun 12, 2011Was messing around today and installed kde-standard over my Ubuntu 11.04 install and I played around for a bit but wanted to go back to Unity but I switched it back to Ubuntu at the login and all the menu's are gone, just get my desktop, can right click and was able to make a launcher so I could get online but nothing else.

I went to other repositories, e.g. Mint and Ubuntu, and with these included in my sources.list file, I was able to install the desired programs.
If the programs are listed in Debian and the dependecies as well, why would they not install?
General :: Install A Software That Requires A Specific Versions Of Several Packages?
Apr 12, 2011I am trying to install a piece of software that requires a specific versions of several packages. I am using Scientific Linux 5.5 and yum for managing the apps.The problem is that I need, for example ruby >= 1.8.7, but the package for ruby that is the official repositories for SL 5.5 is 1.8.5 and therefore yum says it's up to date.
There are other repositories for SL 6.0 that have ruby-1.8.7. Initially I ignored the fact that they are not for 5.5 and tried to install it manually with rpm. But there was an increasing number of data dependencies for the packages so I gave up. What can I do to avoid this? I suppose installing packages for newer OS version should be ok and they will be compatible with other older libs. But do you really install packages in this manner?

Oct 10, 2010I just upgraded to 10.10 and found that when I visit the secure area of my business site, it throws an Untrusted Connection error (on FireFox). It works perfectly fine with Chromium on Ubuntu though. And it works just fine with all kinds of browsers on Windows Vista too. is this a known issue on FF with the new Ubuntu?
