Ubuntu :: Installation Of The Untrusted Packages?
Jun 26, 2010
I have a lenova B450, installed ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix(dual boot with win xp), everything works fine, even installed some games through ubuntu software center. I tried to install cd burning software, i received the following message. Requires installation of untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. Even after i gave OK there was no response. Now when i tried to install games also same message & no response.

Whenever I do sudo apt-get or use the Ubuntu Software Center, I can't download anything because a message comes up saying "Action requires installation of untrusted packages: The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources." I've been trying to download GIMP and Thunderbird, so... I dunno what the problem is.

A few weeks ago, i installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I installed several of my previously used programs and am now having trouble with the update manager. It refuses to download updates; insisting that it does not trust the source. The details in the error message indicate that the problem is with a package for Banshee Media Player. I am posting a link for a video I made that displays this problem. [URL]

Since upgrading to Maverick, the Update manager will not install the Google update as it says that this "Requires installation of untrusted packages"
What needs to go into the Sources file to get around this? I used to have a gui for doing this, but Maverick appears to have scribbled this as well.

i'm getting an error when trying to run my update manager. i had been having a problem updating my opera, but just today my current package isn't downloading. the error i am getting is:
"Requires installation of untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources." the detail info is:
"computer-janitor computer-janitor-gtk empathy empathy-common icedtea-6-jre-cacao icedtea6-plugin libc-bin libc-dev-bin libc6 libc6-dev libnautilus-extension1 nautilus nautilus-data nautilus-sendto-empathy openjdk-6-jre openjdk-6-jre-headless openjdk-6-jre-lib opera ubuntu-docs upstart"
i tried to just ignore that, so i unclicked it (just wasn't interested in dealing with it right away), and go on {this is how i had been ignoring the same error on my opera update for a week or so} --- and so when i tried going on, i got same above error except with this detail:
"empathy empathy-common icedtea-6-jre-cacao icedtea6-plugin libc-bin libc-dev-bin libc6 libc6-dev libnautilus-extension1 nautilus nautilus-data nautilus-sendto-empathy openjdk-6-jre openjdk-6-jre-headless openjdk-6-jre-lib opera ubuntu-docs upstart" ps- i am a pseudo novice who is trying to learn how to use the terminal, so if it's not too much of a pain, i like terminal directions,

i am a relativelly new user of ubuntu, i have a ubuntu 9 ( i think) on a aone.i am not in the fan club of last updaters, if it works, it's ok.when i try to install (from software center) some softwares, it gives me an error, untrusted packages.i feel it is something like an abuse, at least, bring to the user the possibility to install "untrusted packages" with a button. AT LEAST!because i think it is not normal to don't be able o install blender, remember ubuntu is a linux, then blender should work on.i tested to install many mounth ago, when i i stalled the last version (9.xxx), and it did the same, then i think it is not an update problem at all.

I am new to Debian (just used Gentoo until now), I run a little server for our company and clients. Unfortunately our hosting company switched us from a Gentoo system to a Debian Lenny box with Confixx and stopped maintaining it. So I will need to do the house keeping, which worries me a bit. Today I started and ran: aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade and got a huge list with packages to upgrade. Unfortunately, I am not confident, if I will break something upgrading (Confixx, apache) as I get the following warning message:
WARNING: untrusted versions of the following packages will be installed!
Untrusted packages could compromise your system's security.
You should only proceed with the installation if you are certain that this is what you want to do.
mysql-client mysql-server-5.1 mysql-client-5.1 mysql-common mysql-server-core-5.1 mysql-server libmysqlclient16
Do you want to ignore this warning and proceed anyway?
Is it safe to ignore it and upgrade the needed packages?

I'm doing a fully automated install of Etch, installing the standard system task. I'm using PXE boot with a preseed file.
I do this a lot, and I've not had problems before. This morning, it's stuck at 5% on "Select and install software" saying "Please wait...". The log on console #4 says:
WARNING: untrusted versions of the following packages will be installed!
[snip]
Do you want to ignore this warning and proceed anyway?
I installed a system yesterday without any problems, so I wonder if there's a recent problem with the mirrors I'm using. My /target/etc/apt/sources.list contains:
deb [url]
deb [url]
So it looks like either the UK mirror or security.debian.org.

I recently upgraded from F13 to F14 using "preupgrade". This is the first time I've used preupgrade. So far, F14 is running OK. There are some leftovers from F13 and I'm wondering if this is correct.
Q1: There are 176 F13 packages remaining. [alfrugal@localhost Documents]$ rpm -qa | grep fc13 | wc -l 176 Is this OK? FWIW, after the upgrade, I ran "package-cleanup --orphans" as recommended by the "preupgrade" page on the Fedora Project wiki.
Q2: Also, my GRUB menu was correctly updated for F14, but it still contains the three entries it had for F13. Is it normal for the preupgrade process to require the user to clean up the obsolete entries from the GRUB menu?

And I am not allowed to install the program. It happens regardless of the app I'm going to install-thus I can't install anything! I use Ubuntu 10.10.

I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.

I got this error (see the pic from this link [URL]) when opening google account, face book, etc. Some guys suggested to check the system time and make sure the computer time is same as the local time. According to this hint, I run the command "sudo tzselect" and choose "Europe -> Dublin" (Im in Dublin), then restart PC. However, the error still pops up.

I have done much searching, etc. and cannot find any broken packages. I have tried many many different commands which have mostly done nothing.I seem to be in a similar boat to this person: URL...

I want to start using videos/music files downloaded from untrusted sources (BT,Sharing Forums, etc.). Haven't made this a habit b4 because of the security risks. I want to take steps to reduce the risk & protect my computer from anything malicious. What are some good choices for this? The biggest step I took so far is using Ubuntu since it's very virus resistant, but other threats do exist out there (rootkits, malicious scripts, etc.). When downloading files from untrusted sources, who knows what may be hidden inside. Some options I'm thinking about:
1) Using a VM (with Ubuntu installed inside) & playing the files inside the VM. If anything malicious happen, it would be trapped inside & I could easily revert to a clean snapshot.
2) Using AppArmor to restrict what the files or program used to play the files can/can't do. AA seems very complicated though.
Are the above overkill? Would it be sufficient enough to just open these files on a non-admin user account since no access to root or sudo?

I just upgraded to 10.10 and found that when I visit the secure area of my business site, it throws an Untrusted Connection error (on FireFox). It works perfectly fine with Chromium on Ubuntu though. And it works just fine with all kinds of browsers on Windows Vista too. is this a known issue on FF with the new Ubuntu?
