Ubuntu :: Red Triangle Icon - Update Information Out Of Date

Mar 24, 2011

I've been plagued with this problem now for months. Updates complete normally, but within an hour of booting my Ubuntu installation, a small, odious, snivelling icon appears in my system tray. It's a red triangle around an exclamation mark, and if I hover over it, it informs me: The update information is outdated. The may be caused by, etc. How many times (to 'check for updates and see if any of the repositories fail). They never do, and it never goes away. How can I get rid of it?

Ubuntu :: Cursed Red Triangle - Failed To Download Repository Information

Sep 1, 2011

It's up in the top "toolbar" of Natty and it has a red exclamation mark inside. It tells me my "update information is outdated" and so, naturally, I clicked it. It opens my "Update Manager" which tells me "there are no updates to install" and "The package information was last updated 11 days ago."

So I click the "check" button and the following pops up in a window:
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection.

Code:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

My internet connection, contrary to the information provided, is fantastic (I've also tried 2 different locations).

I'm java developer and I use Eclipse intensive and it uses the same icon for open Eclipse inside folder/package and it's not comfortable for me. In which way I can replace the system plus button icon with the previous triangle button icon?

Ubuntu :: Red Triangle Shown - Update Info Outdated

Jul 12, 2011

I've installed Ubuntu five months ago, and updated to 11.04. About two months ago, a red triangle started appearing in tray from now and then, with this message: The update information is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by a repository that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this icon and then selecting 'Check for updates' and check if some of the listed repositories fail.

When I open the Update Manager to check for updates, it says:
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection.

Details:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

My connection is just fine and when there actually are updates, everything works great, so I don't understand why the red triangle goes on showing up in tray.

I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.

Ubuntu :: Find Out The Last "up-to-date" Date For "Update Manager"?

Jul 31, 2010

When I clall the "update manager" it tells me if my system is up-to-date or new updates are available. Lets assume I update my system now (I disabled automatic updates).

Then (in a couple of days or weeks) I start the Update Manager again and it tells me again that new updates available. How can I find out now when the last time was when my system was "up-to-date" (=when a complete, successful update took place)?

Is there soemwhere an entry which shows this date?

OpenSUSE :: Disable Update Notifications / Notification Icon To Appear When An Update Is Available?

Mar 9, 2010

Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.

Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.

My other Ubuntu (10.10) box is happily downloading updates but I can't remember the last time any updates were available for the box in question.

Debian Configuration :: All Of Packages Are Out Of Date - Update Not Working?

Jun 30, 2010

So I just installed Debian Lenny on my PC (the install went fine). After installing, I went into aptitude and noticed that most of the packages available in the repository are out of date (python 2.5, GCC 4.3). System Update tells me that I am up to date, and when I tell synaptic/aptitude to mark all updatable packages, it does nothing. I have tried typing apt-get update as root aswell. Nothing worked.

I installed Debian with the first DVD from [URL]. During the installation, I told it to download anything that wasn't on the DVD. Shortly after installing, I had manually edited my /etc/apt/sources.list and commented out the CD line. Could any of this have messed up APT?

Fedora Installation :: Update Media's Repo Information To Reflect Some Of Updated Packages

May 13, 2011

I am creating custom install media using the Fedora Core 14 DVD as a base and I have gathered all of the packages and their dependencies I require using the yumdownloader command.I made sure to download the @core group along with the ones listed above. The problem I'm running into is that I don't know how to update the media's repo information to reflect some of the updated packages I have downloaded. So when I go to install on the device, it's saying it can't read/open a certain package and you can see that it's looking for an older version because I'm guessing its repo is telling anaconda that this is the specific version to look for. I'm looking for a way to "update" the repo found on the installation media.

Ubuntu :: Update Broke Windows And Icon Themes

Jan 11, 2010

I just did install the updates as they showed up with the Update manager, and now the themes are "broken." On startup, all windows are themed with the Redmond theme. When I open the Appearance dialog, some windows' theme come back. But nautilus still uses the Redmond theme (I'm not running it as root either). The icon theme is totally not taking effect. It's using the ugly gray icons regardless of what I have chosen. This all happened right after the latest update on Karmic, and after I've reinstalled my NVidia driver which breaks after every kernel update. I think it was a kernel update because the number of lines at the grub menu seemed to have increased.
