General :: Gnome Use The Order-by Triangle The Opposite Way As Windows Does?

May 10, 2010

I included this screenshot for clarity: The triangle is (according to my logic) wrongly rotated. Is this a bug, or an intentional choice?

General :: Windows 7 - Order In The Slots Of Memory Modules Matter/ MemTest?

Apr 4, 2011

In a new PC I had constantly BSoD. I tracked it down to bad memory modules and took them back to the shop.Specifically the RAM was Corsair. Anyway they said they will do test on memory to confirm. They did tests and admitted the RAM was faulty and gave me a replacement. At this point: originally I bought 2 kits of 4G RAM. One of the kits turned out bad. They gave me a replacement, it does not seem to be exactly the same, though. In any case, I became causious and as soon as I got them I put them in the PC and run KUbuntu memtest. It started showing thousands of errors! (Again!). I removed the new kit and run the test again. No errors. I swapped the slots I put the memory modules and also no errors. I can not understand now. Is the new RAM kit bad or not? Does the slots I place the kits matter?

Programming :: Function - Get The Sine Of An Angle A Is Opposite / Hypotenuse?

Aug 20, 2010

how to get the sine of an angle. it just says that the sine of angle A is opposite/hypotenuse. that's all find and dandy if you have a triangle, but how do you get the sine of an Angle without that information? Calculators do this. pop in Sin(35) and you'll get the sine of angle 35. how does that work? I've attempted to look up the Function definition in the standard C library, but all I can find is the function prototype in the header - where the heck is the function definition?

Ubuntu :: File Browser Sorts Opposite From Arrow Direction

Programming :: Aligning Two Different Pieces Of Text On Opposite Sides Of Screen

Mar 21, 2009

I have written a CGI script which prints 2 tags at either end of the screen (actually they are the "Previous page" and "Next page" links for either end of the screen). The left one is under a <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> and the right one <DIV ALIGN="RIGHT"></DIV>. Unfortunately they don't line up on screen - the left "Previous page" text is one line higher than the "Next page" link - I tried putting in a <NOBR> tag between them but it didn't work - can someone tell me what to do?

Ubuntu :: Red Triangle Again - Some Index Files Failed To Download

Dec 28, 2010

Been a while since I had the 'update information is outdated' irritant, but it is back with me now. It was on 10.04 anyway and I am now running 10.10. I've checked for updates manually and get:

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: [URL] maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 16126D3A3E5C1192

My other Ubuntu (10.10) box is happily downloading updates but I can't remember the last time any updates were available for the box in question.

Ubuntu :: Red Triangle Icon - Update Information Out Of Date

Mar 24, 2011

I've been plagued with this problem now for months. Updates complete normally, but within an hour of booting my Ubuntu installation, a small, odious, snivelling icon appears in my system tray. It's a red triangle around an exclamation mark, and if I hover over it, it informs me: The update information is outdated. The may be caused by, etc. How many times (to 'check for updates and see if any of the repositories fail). They never do, and it never goes away. How can I get rid of it?

Ubuntu :: Red Triangle Shown - Update Info Outdated

Jul 12, 2011

I've installed Ubuntu five months ago, and updated to 11.04. About two months ago, a red triangle started appearing in tray from now and then, with this message: The update information is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by a repository that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this icon and then selecting 'Check for updates' and check if some of the listed repositories fail.

When I open the Update Manager to check for updates, it says:
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection.

Details:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

My connection is just fine and when there actually are updates, everything works great, so I don't understand why the red triangle goes on showing up in tray.

Ubuntu :: Cursed Red Triangle - Failed To Download Repository Information

Sep 1, 2011

It's up in the top "toolbar" of Natty and it has a red exclamation mark inside. It tells me my "update information is outdated" and so, naturally, I clicked it. It opens my "Update Manager" which tells me "there are no updates to install" and "The package information was last updated 11 days ago."

So I click the "check" button and the following pops up in a window:
Failed to download repository information
Check your Internet connection.

Code:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

My internet connection, contrary to the information provided, is fantastic (I've also tried 2 different locations).

Fedora :: Windows Order - Missing Menu Item

Feb 14, 2010

In F11, I could configure windows to gain focus when the mouse hovers over them ... it was possible to finetune the response in terms of seconds. I dont find the menu item for this function any more in F12 (System -> Preferences ->?) Which package added that functionality and is there a version for F12? I really miss it

just noticed that the windows are already set to respond that way (by default) only that the title bars don't indicate a change in focus.

Is there a way for me to kill x from the Gnome interface?

General :: Remove Gnome Windows Manager And Install Xfce

Is it possible to install a different windows manager? Currently I am using an HP Netbook 210. The windows manager I am using is "gnome-shell" that comes as default with Fedora 15. However, I am wondering if I could completely remove this and install a different windows manager, such as Xfce 4.8. I am not talking about completely removing Fedora 15 and then installing Fedora 15 xfce spin. Just the window manager. How easy would it be to remove the gnome-shell windows manager and then install xfce 4.8 windows manager? Any steps to do this?
