I am wanting to put Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Fedora 15 on one DVD so that I can pop it into the cd drive and choose to boot from the DVD into any one of them. I know I can just load them on a virtual machine but I will be using different computers and don't want to install it on all the machines.

This is by far the coolest thing i've seen. How is this done? Is there a program that will let me select more than one iso image and then create a bootable disk with all the distros I want on it and create a menu that will boot to the different distros?

I have an ATI Radeon HD 3300 on-board video chipset, and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 PCI card. What I want is to have both displays available from one mouse/keyboard. I want to play media on one and have the other as my main desktop.The problem is that with Xinerama enabled, KDE desktop effects do not work (KDE says XComposite and XDamage are not available, even though I explicitly enabled them as extensions in the xorg.conf file), and performance is quite bad. Without Xinerama enabled, performance is great, desktop effects work great, but there's a lot of trouble with full-screen video, and the KWin window manager does not apply in the second display (although I can run a second instance of KWin on :0.1).

Now that Ubuntu 10.04 has multi-touch capabilities built-in, if I do not have a multi-touch screen or surface device, can I get 2 USB mice and get 2 pointers on the screen? One for the right hand and one for the left hand as I am ambidextrous, and would find it very convenient to have 2 mice.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone successfully using VNC client on a Mac to control a Debian server?I have the vncserver setup on the Debian machine properly. But I'm having problems connecting to it from both a PowerMac running Tiger and a MacBookPro running leopard.I can connect no problem from a machine running Slack12.2, have not setup port forwarding on my router to connect remotely yet.My Debian machine is running the latest stable release of squeeze with KDE4.I originally tried this with RealVNC Enterprise for OSX but I'm not gonna buy it so I need another alternative after the 30 day trial ends as they have no free version for OSX.
The situation is that I do freelance graphic design on the PowerMac with Cinema4D and Photoshop so I spend most of my time on that machine which is located in my home studio in my attic. Aside from the MacBook and a Dell desktop(family machine)all my other machines and network hardware are in the basement. So to go from the attic to the basement everytime I need to do something on another machine is not practical, and the only other machine I need to access on a regular basis is the Debian box in the basement, this makes the most sense.
I also have a 14 year old living in the house and he's fascinated by all this and will meddle in anything he gets the chance to so all the Linux machines and network hardware need to be behind lock and key.
I just finished installing a bunch of truetype fonts. After installing them, firefox is displaying "bradybunch" font when I search google.
The font settings are all serif and sans serif in both the system fonts settings and firefox settings.
I am using ubuntu 9.10.
Any idea why this could be happening?
I would like to use the Adobe Garamond Pro in my text doccument in open office writer. I got a text document where from a friend where it is used so I know that it can. But when I want to edit I cant find it in the fonts dropdown menu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?
Im running 64bit centos 5.6 and using virt-manager.On one of my guest OS's, Windows 7, The max Physical CPUs is 2, you can have unlimited CPU Cores however. (like my machine i use for work has 1, 4 core processor).The issue im having is xen only allows you to set the vcpu arguemnet in your xen config file. How can i set it so that 1 CPU has several Cores just as windows would recognize this machine if i were installing directly to the hardware vs via a VM.Ive searched for 2 days staright trying to address this issue, very little progress, Does anyone know where a XEN support forum is? all i get is the citrix xen support forums.
here is the best info i have found on this, but i dont know how to change this for my CPU to work, when i enter this in my xen config it essentially ignores it and just takes the value of vcpu= so windows shows 2 CPUs each with ONLY one core. Id like 1 or 2 CPUS showing Several cores.The physical Hardware is 2x Xeon 5300 Quad Core CPUs.

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

View 1 Replies View RelatedI searched around and it seems like other people are having similar issues with multi-touch on Lucid, although my specific problem hasn't been brought up. I have an Eee PC 900A that I upgraded from 8.10 to 10.04. In 8.10, two-finger tapping was processed as a middle click, and two finger scrolling worked perfectly with the other functions.
After upgrading to 10.04, a two-finger tap is now the same as a right click, and middle click is three-finger tap. There does not seem to be any place in the touchpad settings to adjust this.
What's more, if I enable two-finger scrolling in the touchpad settings, the two-finger tapping suddenly stops working. If is change scrolling to edge or disabled, the multi-finger tap functionality comes back again. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?
I have over 200 old .doc files that I cannot read properly with oo. Some of the files just give e one line of what looks like formatting info and the rest of the files show the text but in the middle of garbage and not formatted. If I use a winXP machine and get the MSWord add-on from MS it will read these. I do not like to use Win machines and also I need a batch method for the conversion, either to odf or docx format.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a server in my house using Apache 2 running off Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition (no, the computer is a desktop). I tried running the website on a few computers in house and all the images and scripts seem to load fine but it is unable to read from the data.xml file through javascript. This leaves all of the web pages empty because all of the content is parsed from the xml file through javascript. I tried debugging with google chrome and after running this code to load the xml file:

I just completely put Ubuntu on my laptop and I am looking for a replacement MSN messenger that allows multi-session. Basically, in most of the WLM versions of MSN Messenger it allows Multi-session, as in I can login into the same MSN account on both my desktop (Windows) and my laptop (Ubuntu). Both Pidgin and Empathy don't, and rather going through all of them I thought I'd ask here.

Prior versions of ubuntu would detect the drives, when I clicked on them in nautilus, I was prompted for my password, then the drives were mounted for the rest of the session. any idea how to mount these drives properly? The documentation linked to above describes ext3 and fat32 file systems (I tried both)
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've used ext2ifs drivers to mount my ext3 partition in winxp, but I don't have write acces, it's mounted in a read-only mode, and i didn't check the rad-only box during the installation of the drivers. [URL] It's a straithfoward proces so I dont understand what I did wrong. I'm using fresh xp install with (more or less) all the updates and ubuntu 10.04 Also the partition is mounted at /home, so I dont know if that makes any difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning 10.04 64bit. Installed the latest Gnucash from repositories. Using Quicken 2003 and exported an account to a qif file. When trying to import to Gnucash the error "A bug was detected while reading the QIF file." displays. This, at least is more than I was able to do previously (prior to 10.04 and several earlier versions of Gnucash running in 8.04 through 9.10). Before it would cause Gnucash to crash and shutdown. I select a specific account with categories from Quicken to export. I can import to KMymoney and use it but that program is not compatible with the wife and does not do reconciliation reports by default.
