Sep 9, 2010I have mounted an NFS share with ISO images on my kvm Server. If i connect such a iso to a VM (using virt-manager) for installing a operating system i get the following error on startup: Error starting domain: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 qemu: could not open disk image /mnt/iso/public/Linux/Distributions/Debian/debian-504-amd64-netinst.iso: Permission denied
The problem is definitly that kvm (or qemu or libvirt-bin, i don't know) tries to set permissions (rwx owner for libvirt-qemu, --- for kvm group, --- for other) on the file, although it has read permissions. Is it possible to change this behavior?

May 20, 2011Fairly new install of 11.04, installed from CD I burned from ISO. It's been updating fine up to now but all of a sudden started giving these errors. This is from Terminal sudo apt-get update attempt:

Jun 9, 2010After using Hardy on this machine for the past 2 years, I figured maybe it's time to try Lucid. So I burnt a Lucid live cd, and get the following message:

Pressing keys has no effect. [b]Ctrl+Alt:F[i]n[/n] doesn't do nothing.Nor does anything else I try. If I click on the Reboot button, it ends up wgere it started. Ogh, and the numbers 104280EF are also on the screen.
There's also a pretty picture accompanying all this: something that looks like a very small spreadsheet, and a stick-figure in a circle and... and I don't know what the heck is going on.

Sep 1, 2011I created a boot disc (USB drive) with Ubuntu 11.04 and tried to install it on my Gateway GT5012 desktop running Windows XP. It gets to the part where I can "Run Ubuntu from this USB," and I select it. The screen shows "loading vm/linuz..." or something like that, and then the entire screen turns into dots.
One time, when trying to boot from the drive, it brought up
"CHS: Error 0201 reading sector 1418005 (88/68/3)
EDD: Error 4200 reading sector 1418006"
I ran this same USB drive on another computer (also running XP), and it worked just fine, so I really have no idea what's going on. If it matters, the computer it worked on had Internet access, this one didn't. It says "Loading /casper/vmlinuz..." and then goes to the screen of flashing dots.
Ubuntu :: Won't Play Cd - Complete Error Log - Hanging / Freezing On Windows
Jan 4, 2011my first impressions are that for all the dissing of Windows at least if I stick a CD in the tray it plays....I installed ubuntu 9.04 on a VM running alongside WindowXP and upgraded to 9.10. When I open rhythmbox and put a CD in the tray nothing happens..despite the book saying it will play automatically....after much googling I cannot find anything on this problem..most people are trying to stop autoplay. There is not even a cdrom option in the sidepanel of Rhythmbox. I have installed ubuntu-restricted-extras as advised...nada.
A chat room reply suggested abandon rhythmbox and install vlc which I did...same problem though at least i get an error message "unable to open MRL cdda://dev/sr0". As a complete newbie I do not know what to put int he command line to run rhythmbox or vlc to see the complete error log. I have spent two days trying to resolve this problem...the equivalent of several months worth of hanging/freezing on windows

Apr 10, 2010I have a SONY VAIO CW26 laptop. I got a Windows-7 version prepacked with the laptop.I installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 over a new partition that i created using the inbuiltfacility in windows7. Both the operatings systems i.e windows7 and ubuntu karmic 9.1 were working nicely.Today i created 2 more partition within the partition inside windows.Once I rebooted after creation of the new partitions my laptop is just showing a black screen with following message.

Apr 26, 2010I am having a laptop with Vista installed on it. I have an Ubuntu live CD (karmic) which is refusing to boot on this machine. I get an error : "Error reading boot CD" and a reboot button. I have tried this cd on other machines and it works fine. I tried live CD of kubuntu also but the same error message appears. What could be the reason?
Machine spec: 2GB RAM, Intel core 2 duo processor.

May 4, 2011I don't understand the results of a simple performance test I ran using two basic scripts (running on a high end server):

I would have thought that accessing a VARIABLE was way faster than reading a FILE on the file system... Why this result ?Is there a way to optimize the perfCat.zsh script by reducing the number of accesses to the file system ?

Jan 14, 2010I was about to reinstall the opensuse 11.1 since 11.2 was giving me trouble and ran the 'check installation media' and it turned out every disc I burn gives me 'Error Reading Sector 1891680'. This CD-ROM is broken. Looks like there is a problem with installation. I already burned like 5 different DVDs.

Apr 22, 2011I installed win 7 and Linux Mint, however I've now decided to uninstall both and start with a fresh hdd. Anyway formatting went fine and started installing win 7 however there was a reading error from cd and canceled. Now ever time I try and start my pc it comes up with error: unknown filesystem and the grub rescue prompt. Now I don't know what to do as i can't seem to get around this and back to win 7 installer.

Ubuntu Installation :: Kubuntu 9.10 CD Has "Error Reading The Boot CD" On Acer X1800
Jan 6, 2010The kubuntu 9.10 CD boots normally and present all the install options on Acer computer M3202 (AMD Athlon II X3 triple-core processor) and M3100 (AM3100-UD5200A. AMD Athlon64 x2) but not X1800 (AX1800-E9232. Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q8200). The "804200EF" number appears on the top left corner of the screen. The error screen with the red title "I/O error" and the message "Error reading the boot CD. Reboot". appear. Windows 7 is running ok on Acer X1800 so its hardware should be ok.
BTW, the System Rescue CD 1.3.4 does not work on Acer M3202 and X1800 but works correctly on M3100.
