View 9 Replies View RelatedI've a fresh, default installation of opensuse 11.4 with KDE and I've added some programs like yast or firefox into the KDE desktop. Howto disable/remove small action menu's from the desktop icons?
BTW I try to add a small 29KB png image into this posting, to show what I exactly mean, but it doesn't work.
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
I am using the nouveau 3d gallium driver on a nvidia fx 5500 card the only problem I'm having is on unity's launcher there is no icons everything works fine and i can click and open them it's just not displaying the icons.
With the nvidia driver installed i can't even get unity to load.should i install the package on nvidia's website or is there something i can do.The driver is fast and i have not seen any bugs in it that's the only thing i have found wrong with it.
I'm using the latest daily build of unity and the alpha of narty and the 3d version of Unity is dog slow on this computer. I installed the 2d version and it's much much better. The only problem is, I need to be able to see the battery manager applet, the clock, and the logout button, but none of them are visible. The only icon I have in the top right corner is the wifi manager.
I know everything is in alpha and unfinished, but is there a config file I need to modify or might I have done something wrong when adding and installing the 2d interface from the daily repo?
I was just wondering how I could reorder/drag n drop/move the unity-2d (qt version) icons in ubuntu 10.10, like you would in the mutter version unity. I can move the launcher up and down, I just can't pull them off the launcher and drag them around. Is this a bug or has it just not been implemented yet? Other than this, I love unity 2d and can't wait for the compiz-based unity 3D to use in 11.04
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just installed the new Ubuntu 11.04 and encountered a strange problem. The Launcher bar appears, everything is ok, but i can see no icon on the Unity Launcher. When i move the mouse over the launcher, it tells me where the icons should be. The apps also open when I click in those places. But NO icon? Can anybody tell me why is this happening? It is very annoying. I would accept it easier if it didn't work at all.. but not this way.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes when adding an application link to the Unity dock it does not display an icon in the dock, just a blank space.
An example would be the image manipulation app 'Pinta'. Installing this from the Ubuntu Software Centre, finding it in the apps menu and dragging it to the Unity dock results in a blank space being put in the dock.
I am happy to report a bug but can anyone explain why this happens?
Temporary work around for anyone with this problem:
1. Create a launcher for the app on the desktop
2. Move the launcher to ~/.local/share/applications
3. Drag it to the dock from there
Now is hard to understand which app is running and which's not, even I make it "backlight toggles" in CCSM, I have to looking at it for several seconds or find small triangles.
Can I make it just like windows7, let it only appears when app is running?
After playing around with Ubuntu Tweaks to remove the "Recent Documents" logging, I somehow ended up losing the icons for "Applications" and "Files & Folders".
I tried lots of different things but the only thing that seemed to sort it was this:
Log out. Log in under Ubuntu Classic (for some reason dropping back to tty with Ctr, Alt and F2 didn't do it). Bring up the terminal and do code...
Log back into Ubuntu (not classic) and hopefully, you should end up with all icons back as they were.
This worked for me but I can't remember if I'd gotten rid of the ".recent-documents.xbel" file in my home folder first, so if all else fails you could try that before you start removing and re-installing Unity.
Is there a way I can remove the backing to the Unity launcher icons? I want to make it so that I can make them look like iOS app icons, and the Unity dock just resizes the icon and adds a background to it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe Compiz Setting page for Unity will not let me set the launcher to autohide or other hiding option, and the Experimental page will not let me reduce the icon size. The lack of hiding is another as the left edge of windows can disappear under the the Launcher.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know how to change the Unity Launch icons file association. For example; when i click the 'Files and Folders' icon and the side menu pops up with recent, favorites, etc. I click any of them and they associate those files or folders with Vuze. It also associates the trash can at the bottom of the menu, and any external hdd that i attach; but this only occurs when i open them through the Unity Launch Bar. I can go to the Home icon and open a folder and they open, or open the hdd off the desktop and its fine. It seems to only happen when i try to open them through Unity.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to 11.04 and I've been tweaking Unity to get the desktop just the way I like it. I've come across two minor problems though:
1. When I tweak the icon size settings in the Unity tab of CCSM, the icons do not change size; they remain at the default "48" setting regardless of what I type in.
2. When I set the Unity launcher to auto-hide (also in the Unity tab of CCSM), it stays at the default "dodge windows" setting.
Are there any workarounds to change these settings when tweaking them in CCSM's interface does not work? (Or is there some trick I don't know to get CCSM to work properly?)
I have my Unity desktop just how I like it, but sometimes I like to log in to the Gnome (Ubuntu Classic) desktop. However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Is there a way to reset my Gnome desktop to default without affecting my Unity desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome. Whenever I put in a blank CD/DVD an icon on the desktop appears named "Blank CD/DVD" and a window appears asking me what I want to do with it. How do I disable the window and the icon from the desktop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEVERY SINGLE TIME when I try to close the Nautilus File Browser (ie when I go to my Documents folder), the desktop flashes all the icons on the desktop a couple of times (for a sec you would see no icons on the desktop) before everything goes back to normal.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI started up my computer, the seccond time since i had installed ubuntu 11.04. My unity desktop was gone, and it was now the old desktop(classic). I tried to change it but it didn't work. Then i as i only saw one option i reinstalled ubuntu then it worked again and have since.
View 1 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike, if I drag a window to the top of the screen, somehow this is supposed to mean I want the window full screen. Screw that if I wanted it full screen I'd have clicked the button on the top of the menu. Windows 7 does this too and it just as annoying.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I use Dosbox in full screen mode, and then exit back to KDE, my desktop icons get shuffled around.I'm using the desktop folder view in KDE 4.4.3I've noticed that this also happens with ScummVM as well, so I think it's more a KDE issue?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to disable the icons in the bookmarks tool bar? You know what I mean: my facebook bookmark always has this little F right next to it, the ..... bookmark has the red and white ..... icon, etc.
Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.
Oh: this might be important: I am using Ubuntu 10.04. and firefox 3.6.3
How do I temporally disable compiz when in unity-3d so that I can play a game at the correct speed (with compiz enabled I get about 20% of the speed I get with compiz disabled) I have tried a script with
metacity --replace &
./game
compiz --replace &
But this makes an unusable desktop.
I know I can use unity-2d but that seems to be worse in terms of usability.. I also know I can use gnome2 but whats the point when that will be missing in the next release . Is there anyway of doing this in unity-3d? Are there any plans (possibly from compiz) to ever do this automatically ?
One thing that worries me is that a new user will try a opengl game and think that Linux is far slower than Windows at games (which if you have a nvidia card with the binary driver is not true)
when I turned on my desktop workstation, I found that Desktop icons have disappeared and I can't right-clik the Desktop , aning found any option on desktop like Application,Places and system
View 1 Replies View Related1)If I installed the Alpha-1 11.10, is it easy to upgrade to newer versions later on until the Final Release?
2) How to make the desktop taskbar appear in ubuntu natty of Unity desktop as previous Gnome? Possible or not?
I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Well, as described in the title, I can't see the desktop icons, and the "show desktop" option under "gconf-editor >apps>nautilus>preferences" says it's not writable...
I tried deleting the nautilus configuration folder, and the gnome configuration folder...
I'm curious as to how Unity works. How can I DL and try Unity on my 10.10 desktop?
