Ubuntu :: Package Upgrade - Script Returned Error Exit Status17
Oct 13, 2010
I am getting this error in the console whenever I upgrade packages. This doesn't affect anything I do in Ubuntu, but it is just a little annoying. Here is what I get when I execute sudo apt-get upgrade:
Code:

I dont know how to put this that somobody would understand my problem but here we go. I have problem like said in title.I am unable to upgrade my kernel. Sunaptics says that I have 2.6.35-28 installed. I tried to reinstall 2.6.35-28 via synaptics but it gives me error.
Thats what uname -a says:
pekka@pekka-laptop:~$ uname -a Linux pekka-laptop 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:48 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
Tried to install 2.6.35-27 via terminal thats what I get:
Code: pekka@pekka-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-27 [sudo] password for pekka: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree code....

I have been having the worst time trying to get sametime messenger from IBM to install properly. I had it working fine for the last 6 months and yesterday I accidently updated and it all went to {1134}. I seem to have found dkms to be the source of the problem.
I get an exit 0 regardless of whether or not its install or uninstall. I have managed to get pidgin to work for now, but it is no means ideal for my purposes.
I kept getting this... rastlosen@rastlosen-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install sametime-connect [sudo] password for rastlosen: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
Everytime I install a package or use update manager I get the following message. Code: E: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-image-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured E: linux-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured E: linux-headers-2.6.32-22-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-headers-2.6.32-23-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-headers-2.6.32-24-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: linux-headers-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured The install/upgrade appears to work but I'm getting concerned about the message continuing for so long.
I am preparing everything that I will be using in my fourth year project which is based on the grid computing concept. My problem is that before I installed ubuntu 10.10, I was using 9.10. And in my previous version (9.10) I was able to install condor through the synaptic package manager comfortably, but after upgrading to version 10.10 am getting the following error after installing condor: "E:condor:subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127"
i have a problem and it's been persisting since i installes MST Core fonts.
terminal log is here:

I have had no problems with downloading/installing updates and programs, and everything worked fine. Until memtest came along. It ran by itself (I think my dad made it the first boot option in grub), and now if I try to install any packages or programs, it will either say "Grub installation failed" or that any packages I tried to install failed. If I removed memtest, would that make it possible for me to install stuff again? Or is there a way to work around it?the main error report I get is: "E: memtest86+: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 127"
From the Synaptic Package Manager, I searched for HL-1440. There were two files appeared: (1) brother-lpr-drivers-laser1, and (2) brother-cups-wrapper-laser1. When I marked (1) for installation, (2) was automatically selected. After I applied the files for installation, I received this error: "E: hl1440lpr: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 126." What should I do? I am still learning Linux/Ubuntu and really don't have much experience with this.
Everytime I attempt to install anything, in any way, I'm given the following error message:
E: lib32nss-mdns: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: wine1.2: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
I went into Synaptics Package Manager and told it to uninstall WINE in case that was what was causing the problems. It sort of half-uninstalled-it then gave me that exact same error message.I have two threads currently open on the forums - adjusting laptop brightness and flashing BIOS - and both problems hit a brick wall because of this same error message.
I just installed Fedora9 in my desktop. The installation was successful and it was doing security update and system update right after install. After all the update service finished, I do a manual update to see what happy (Sysem>Administration>Update System). It keeps coming up with Package Error with the message "failed to get a TID: Incorrect path with ';' returned!".
I logged in as user1 with administrative privileges.I right-clicked on a folder on my desktop, then "Sharing Options", then shared the folder as "docs".Then I created a new user with administrative privileges, user2, and logged in as that user. Then, I deleted user1 - account settings, and files. Then I created a folder on my desktop and tried to share it as "docs", but I get the following error: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: failed to add share docs. Error was Operation not permitted
I can share the folder as any other name, just not "docs".My smb.conf file doesn't contain the entry.I'd love to know where the configuration file is that's hi-jacked the name "docs".
simple scan error as follows: Failed to save file ImageMagick returned error code 11 Command line: convert -adjoin /tmp/simple-scan-DA9MBV.jpg /tmp/simple-scan-XCK4BV.jpg /tmp/simple-scan-NZVYBV.pdf Stdout: Stderr: using karmic note: I have apparmor extra profiles installed but didn't notice one that related to simple scan or imagemagick. Red herring or not?
I can't make the upgrade..... I recently upgraded a couple of my systems from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS. I had no issues with nfs prior to the upgrade. After the upgrade I am occasionally seeing the following messages:
mspfiles being the share name.
This never used to happen on 8.04. Generally the error "Socket operation on non-socket" points to a coding error. Could this be a bug in the kernel? Has anyone else come across this?
The only other recent reference that I found to the same errors was in this comment on the OpenSUSE bugtracker: [url]
It seems as though it is handling loss of connectivity less gracefully than it did before.
I can't really upgrade any more of my servers until this is fixed as we are heavily dependant on nfs.
I think that my computer crashed one time, while I was in middle of installing some new software, and it seems like it have made "dpkg" confused with itself - it thinks, that I still need to install "Wine", but it is allready installed, so everything is allright. But everytime, when I am upgrading or installing any kind of software, it give me this error (just an error, everything still works and installs fine):
I'm tried to install bandwidthd on Ubuntu 9.10 and keep getting the following error.I have been looking around for a while and have been unsuccessful in finding a answer.
HTML Code: $sudo apt-get install bandwidthd Reading package lists... Done
i'm runung "ubuntu 10.4" and install "Xampp 1.7.3.a" i have 3 problem in the joomla web installer in step "2:Pre-installation Check"
Code: configuration.php Writable NO
in step 5 : FTP Configuration when i feel ftp setting and click on "verify ftp setting, get this error Code: Error: the XML response that was returned from the server is invalid.
inthe final step when i click "install sample data" i get this error

I've been reading up on ssh and I don't want anyone to connect to my computer. I am not interested in remote connectivity at all. Should I uninstall ssh? I ran Code: apt-get remove ssh and debian returned "package ssh is not installed. 0 packages removed."
I also looked online and found out about /etc/ssh/ssh_conf but all of the lines on my computer were #'d out. I also added "PermitRootLogin no" at the end. Am I safe from ssh attacks if I don't have ssh? Might be a stupid question but I don't want to fall victim. edit: it seems as though I -do- have openssh-client and openssh-server installed. Should I just leave my ssh config with PermitRootLogin no or apt-get remove openssh-client openssh-server.
Thought I could just place a hard drive with a preloaded Ubuntu install from another machine (a loaner machine) into this one; change a few drivers and be on my way. Too many errors to count. ALSA; Jack; LiveTex all cratered and I'm tired of fighting this. I've spent more than two days trying to get stuff working and if there's anything I've learned from years of experience there's a time to cut bait and run.
A clean install on the actual hardware I'm using has to be better than the hodge podge I have now. What I would like from the community is recommendations for what to do AFTER the install.
1) where can I find the most up-to-date comprehensive and exhaustive list of repositories for the Synaptic Package Manager?
2) I like to do sound and video processing. I would like to have the program applications Qsynth, Virtual Midi Keyboard, Muse Score, Csound, GNU Denemo, and many others that either fail to start or produce no sound to work. What, besides the programs need to be loaded in order to make these work?
3) A helpful list of recommendations on what to install along with order preference. In other words 'this needs to be done before this...' on a new Ubuntu install.
In case anyone's interested: Here's a small list of some of the errors I currently have. AlsaModularSynth - Could not open file.Qsynth1 - Failed to create the audio driver (jack) / Jack server not running.
Errors were encountered while processing:
texlive-latex-base-doc E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Qtractor - The audio/MIDI engine could not be started. Make sure the JACK audio server (jackd) and/or the ALSA Sequencer kernel module (snd-seq-midi) are up and running and then restart the session.
apt-get install alsa-utils - Errors were encountered while processing: texlive-latex-base-doc E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Jack configuration files not found; the list is endless. Plus many errors trying to get texlive to work.
