I read that there will be a plugin for Amarok to access the Ubuntu One Music Store, but haven't heard anything of it since. Will the plugin be ready before 10.04 or when 10.04 launches? Or will there be another way to access the Music Store from Kubuntu without installing Rhytmbox?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI fully intend to use Ubuntu One, Amazon, or another music store to purchase music from now on, but the problem is that I still have $11+ in my iTunes account and I don't feel like letting it go to waste. So my question is, is there any way I can use the iTunes Store on Ubuntu? I looked at PyMusique, but it no longer works with iTunes, as well as many other things. Would it be possible to install an older version of iTunes that worked with WINE and use the store from there?

How can I fix this so I can buy music?
For a long time, I've been downloading music from the Amazon MP3 Store (using Windows). I had hoped the Ubuntu One Store would allow me to use Ubuntu for downloading instead of booting into Windows. To date I've only bought and downloaded one album using the Ubuntu Store. Two reasons, namely that the albums are cheaper in the Amazon Store (at least the ones I've bought have been cheaper) and the files are hidden after download from the Ubuntu One Store.
I was reading last night that Banshee will be the new default music player in Ubuntu 11.04, so, I downloaded and installed Banshee which I discovered has the option to let me download from the Amazon Store (something I've not managed to do yet in Ubuntu). So I gave it a try and it downloaded an album successfully. As an added bonus, the music was downloaded to my Music folder and wasn't downloaded to a hidden folder anywhere. So now I have access to the Amazon Store (cheaper) and the files are not hidden (much easier to make a cd or move to another device for backup).
As of now, I'm exclusively using Banshee because of the reasons I've given above and I can see no sense in using the Ubuntu One Store as it stands. Will Banshee actually be the default music player in 11.04? If so, will it retain the ability to go to the Amazon MP3 Store? If so, will that then be the default for downloading music? If so, what will become of the current default and any music that's already been downloaded from there?
If you want to try the music store out without risking of any of your hard earned, 7digital have a selection of free downloads here. Check them out on web site, then go find in Rythmbox and check out as normal.This is using from UK, I assume they also do the same in other territories.

I just downloaded my first track and I was pleased!
It was easy to find, pay, and download. It was 20 cents cheaper than AmazonMP3 too.
I had the same song downloaded from AmazonMP3 and compared them side-by-side.
The 7digital file had a better bitrate (320KB/sec) than AmazonMP3 (225KB/sec) and I didn't notice any quality in the sound.
I noticed, however, the AmazonMP3 track was stereo and the 7digital one was mono.

What?
Are all the songs like this?
I found some artists/albums available on 7digital that are not available on Ubuntu One Music Store. Is that done on purpose?

Does anyone know where the files downloaded from the Ubuntu One Music Store are stored?They are not in the Music folder or anywhere else in my home folder that I can determine, yet Rhythmbox sees them. I noticed that in the Rhythmbox preferences I can no longer specify one specific folder as a watch folder (it defaults back to "Multiple Locations Set"). I'd like to transfer the files I bought to a flash drive, but cannot find them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just started using the Ubuntu One Music Store from within Rhythmbox and all was going well until I tried to play a music video. (Search for Daft Punk. Scroll to Videos. Click 'Around the World' and attempt to play.)
Then I got a stupid error message saying:
"Internet connection is required to access the music store. Please connect and reload."
I could not get rid of this error message by restarting Rhythmbox. I had to unload the Ubuntu One Music Store plugin, and then restart Rhythmbox.
Upon loading the music store in rythmbox it crashes the program. Probably not the best way to start off the new endeavor.

In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
I had my mother purchase an album on the Ubuntu One Music Store in 10.10 for me, since it was kind of a gift from last Christmas. It downloaded fine (albeit with a browse to my Ubuntu One storage account from FF), and it synced fine, but when I go to play any of the songs on my iPod Nano 3G, the progress bar that shows how finished the song is while playing is stuck at 0:00. Anybody know what the problem is?
View 12 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.10; Using Rhythmbox 0.13.1 and looking for a plugin that will allow me to love/ban tracks. The integrated Last.fm support is decent, but lacks a few features. I've recently migrated over from Banshee which was constantly crashing upon loading my music library (17,891 songs). So preferably I'd like to stay with Rhythmbox as it's the only player I've found so far that can load all my music without issues.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've spoken to people on the KDE forum about this but am a bit stumped. They advised me to change the phonon backend of Amarok from xine to phonon-backend-gstreamer or phonon-backend-vlc. The latter doesn't seem to be in the repositaries though someone on the KDE forum said otherwise. When I change to gstreamer, Amarok says it cannot play mp3 files. Apparently Kubuntu 10.04's Amarok is a bit old too but I can't see how to update it - does this involve adding a ppa or something?
I've added two other database-type players, Exaile and Rhythmbox, both designed of course for other desktop environments, but they both give gripes about codecs too or won't play. The xine backend causes jumps in playback mentioned in another post.
I have installed the Kubuntu restricted extras, and I even added w32codecs and nonfreecodecs at one point, now removed (--purged). I don't fancy moving to 10.10 as I like the 3 years of not messing about upgrading/reinstalling. I would ideally update just Amarok and KDE itself.
I've been trying to get this plugin to work with karmic: [URL] I tried the xmms one but the flac plugin for xmms is missing the dependacy libflac7 and there is no source availible as far as I can tell. I tried the audacious one but it isn't compatible with audacious-2.2 and audacious1.5.1 crashes with a segment fault on karmic. I also found this [URL] It has a plugin called gstreamer0.10-bs2b which sounds like the same thing I've been working on but I tried a bunch of music players (hythmbox, audacious, xmms2, songbird, and quodlibet). None seem to have anyway to enable the plugin.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've noticed since switching from Kubuntu 10.04 to openSUSE 11.3 on my laptop that the Adobe Flash plugin seems much more prone to crash and fullscreen video playback (e.g. Hulu) performs terribly. I can't figure out what's different between the distros. In both cases, I'm using a 64-bit OS, Firefox and KDE, and the proprietary NVIDIA driver. Anyone know what might be happening, or more importantly, how to improve Flash stability and performance on 64-bit openSUSE?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got about 30 bucks worth of iTunes giftcards I'd like to redeem, but Apple doesn't have iTunes support for linux. I installed it via wine, but I can't get the itunes store to open up. I've been trying for several hours to get a workaround, with no success, as follows:
1) iTunes on Wine (didn't work, like I said)
2) Sharp Musique (old thread, all the links were broken and it's not in my Synaptics repos)
3) Banshee iTunes Store extension*****
This last one with Banshee seems promising, but I'm getting nowhere. I've downloaded the third-party extension, installed the .deb, and followed the directions on the banshee webpage. Still, when I go under Edit>>>Preferences>>>Extensions, it doesn't show up. I found the install called "iTunesMusicStore.dll" in /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.Plugins, and I've moved it to ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-001/addin-data, but it still won't show up in the plugins.
Whenever I try playing media off of my iphone when I plug it in to rhythmbox, it says:
Music Player requires a additional plugin to decode this file

When I click Search, it says:
Failed to search for plugin

I am in need of some syntax help. I'm trying to figure out how to store and retrieve an array out of a hash of hashes. For this example, I'm trying to access the city list for a particular state for a particular country. I understand I could do a join and split on the hash key to combine Country and State, but trying to keep things separated.The code I have gets in all the information for the Countries, and states, and gets the list of cities together, no problem. I store all the city names in an array, then make an anonymous pointer to the array for the hash, like this - $MY_CITIES{$COUNTRY}{$STATE} = [@CITIES]I believe that syntax is correct, or is it? What I'd like to do is I need to cycle through every hash to find if a city exists or not. If it exists in 3 states, then it should print 3 times. Here is the code block to search -

I have two students whose windows laptops are riddled with malware and not working properly. They want me to help them install Linux (which we use in school), but they are concerned about their iTunes.
Having avoided iPods as "defective by design", I know nothing about iTunes whatsoever. However I remember reading about DRM locking and such problems that have me concerned that I won't be able to do it.
Where does iTunes store its stuff?
Can I copy its data store to an external drive, and then into a linux home?
Then will it work on wine, or can another manager (rhythmbox etc) access the itunes data?
Alternatively, if I partition the drive and install linux, can rythmbox/wine/something access itunes data on the win partition?
Supposing they are buying music through iTunes, what will happen to that account?
Finally, one of them has an iphone. Does that work with linux?
Ironic that an apple application is blocking migration away from windows.
I am trying to access my music folder in my OSX partition but every time I click double click on it I get an error message that says "You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "Music".
