Ubuntu One :: GnuCash Data File Does Not Replicate
Jan 25, 2010
I am trying to replicate my GnuCash files between two computers. My GnuCash folder has three types of files:
* One Gzip archive file
* Many xac files (GnuCash Financial Data)
* Many log files
The xac and log files replicate with no problem. However the Gzip file does not. Without this Gzip file, GnuCash cannot makes sense of the other files. Why would this Gzip file not sync? Have others used Ubuntu One to sync their GnuCash files?

Running 10.04 64bit. Installed the latest Gnucash from repositories. Using Quicken 2003 and exported an account to a qif file. When trying to import to Gnucash the error "A bug was detected while reading the QIF file." displays. This, at least is more than I was able to do previously (prior to 10.04 and several earlier versions of Gnucash running in 8.04 through 9.10). Before it would cause Gnucash to crash and shutdown. I select a specific account with categories from Quicken to export. I can import to KMymoney and use it but that program is not compatible with the wife and does not do reconciliation reports by default.

Currently my partner is printing on my Epson Stylus Photo R265 from her XP system. I am attempting to convert her over to Lucid but every attempt so far to replicate the printer settings fails miserably.I had a look at Picasa which on first view appeared to give me exactly what I wanted being an A4 print without any border. However when I attempted to produce the final result it failed miserably, quality was wishy washy and displayed print lines across the paper.I raised the matter on the Picasa forum only to be informed that the method used by them is to forward the print to the printer. The responder assumed that it was via Cups and suggested that I look to the print settings in Ubuntu.
When I access the printer via the System settings all it gives me is connectivity details. Where should I be looking to access the settings where I can set the printing details. I am aiming to have the best photo quality on premium glossy paper and printing without borders. Is this possible to achieve ?? I have been round the houses with F-Spot, Photoprint, Shotwell etc etc. Please dont mention Gimp as it is well over my head. Surely there must be some way of setting print quality within Ubuntu. I feel that I am so near to my aim and would like to achieve it as even she who must be obeyed is getting cheesed off with windows.

We purchased a new database system at work last October, ditching the old system because of a lack of support from the vendor. This is a retail Point of Sale and Backoffice database system. I am not sure what system the new one runs on, but the system we replaced was a Firebird data base. The reason I am posting is because we are now in need of the information contained in the old database which was not completely imported into the new system.
Basically the problem is this: The database in on a Windows XP system and I found a copy of SQL Manager Lite 2008 on the system, which after quite a bit of studying, I figured out how to extract the database into a removable file. I have this file (178MB) on a USB stick in a file called Backoffice.fbd.
My studying suggests to me that I can get into this database with MySQL. I have never used this and have no clue how to do this. All I want to be able to do get into the database and create tab deliminated spreadsheet files for each of the database sections (Customers, Repairs, Sales History, stock files, etc.) Is it possible to do this with Ubuntu and MySQL and if so, can expert suggest one or two things to get me started. While a guided tutorial would be nice because I am not an expert, I am willing to learn on my own if someone could point me in the right direction.

I have 2 servers, 1 running a web server on 1 IP address, the other server running a proxy on a different IP address. I intend to change and update the ncsa file with usernames and passwords from a mysql table. Is there a way to replicate 1 table from the webserver to the proxy server databases and then run a cronjob? The cron will simply delete unused usernames and add new ones.Is there a better way of doing this? I don't want to run the webserver on the proxy server for security and also for performance.

I'm pretty sure the hard disk on my FC5 system (tells you how old it is!) is failing. It's a 500GB drive and I have a second hard disk that's 1.5TB (if I remember right) as a secondary.I would like to (ideally) just migrate everything -- settings, MBR, OS, home dirs, etc., everything -- to a different drive, take out the one that's on the fritz, and reboot the system with everything as it was...just a new hard drive.
Alternatively, I figure I could remove the old drive, move the secondary one into place as the primary, reformat it (assuming there's no data I need), and then install a fresh FC version and from there, migrate data from the old one as needed. I've done this latter method before and assuming the hard drive doesn't totally go, it should work. But I'd really RATHER have somehow a "mirror copy" of the 500GB drive that just seamlessly replaces what's currently there.

I would like to know if there is a way to replicate the contents of the GNOME Applications menu in FVWM (Without running GNOME), because it was very convenient to have it and I don't know the command-line names of some of the programs I need.Especially now I would really like to have it soon because I got VirtualBox and I don't know of any other way to start it other than that menu.

I installed GNUCash to try it out, but ended up not liking it too much. So I went into Ubuntu Software Center and pushed remove. It was taking really long (over 25 minutes) so I restarted my system. Now it is telling me I need to first repair the installation before I can remove it.I've been trying really hard to keep my system clean and organized and now this is bugging me

I'm trying to take off with GnuCash and I've been trying to work on the basics.
Here's my question: I don't want to enter all the details of bills sine there's another program for that. So I thought it would be right to enter the sales summary in the accounts receivable account and post the corresponding entry for the Sales account. Based on this,
1. What does the TYPE mean (I/P) on the receivable account?
2. I let it have I and now I want to go back and edit those entries but I can't seem to do that. It appears to be locked.

Gnucash 2.4 has been released and I'd like to install it in my OpenSuSE 11.3 system. It isn't in any of the repositories that I have listed, although it might be in some repository I don't know about. If it's not in a repository, then I'll have to build it from source. I downloaded the source package and attempted to build it, starting with configure. I got as far as this:
configure: External QOF Disabled. Using Internal QOF Code.
checking dbi/dbi.h usability... no
checking dbi/dbi.h presence... no
checking for dbi/dbi.h... no
configure: error: Unable to find dbi/dbi.h
The perl-DBI package is installed, so that's probably not what it's looking for.So what do I need to do to install Gnucash 2.4?

The latest version of Gnucash available in openSUSE - and I checked the Gnome factory repo - is 2.4.0. The latest version from Gnucash was announced on Sunday and that was 2.4.5. Admittedly 2.4.1 doesn't seem to have been released and 2.4.2 had a bug in Windows but 2.4.3 was released on 27th Feb. Any reason why openSUSE seems to be lagging behind? I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1 and trying to install aqbanking using Yast. Gnucash tells me this: The external program "AqBanking Setup Wizard" has not been found. The aqbanking-qt3 package should include the program "qt3-wizard".check your installation to ensure this program is present. On some distributions this may require installing additional packages. When I try to install aqbanking-qt3, I get dependency problems. How can I get past this?

Based on Product highlights - openSUSE, it would appear that using sqlite3 in gnucash would be available. However, I do not have an option to save an existing book to the database format, nor is it available when creating a new book - only xml is available. Is there anything special that I need to do to enable the sqlite backend?

I just installed fedora 14 and it rocks! The problem is gnucash. When I start it it throws the following error:
gnucash-2.3.15-2.fc13.i686 requires libwebkit-1.0.so.2
I tried to find such lib but it's not available. I noticed there's libwebkitgtk and then I created a symbolic link to it and gnucash works fine, except the menu bar doesn't appear. This bar is crucial for accessing some features what makes gnucash almost useless since I cannot import .ofx files for example.

I recently transferred my old Quicken data to GnuCash. That data includes some very old (15 years ago) transactions and accounts. How can I get rid of all transactions prior to, say, 1/1/2004? I would guess that the Close Book tool is relevant, but there's no documentation on it that I can find. I also want to get rid of ancient accounts, but when I try, I get a message to the effect that I can't delete read-only transactions. More generally, is there a place for asking GnuCash questions?

i have a large data file for gnucash of several years in age. when i did the upgrade, gnucash starts and loads, and the main account appears to load, but there is nothing displayed. just an empty gray space where the alternating colors of the ledger should be.the account listing loads, and i can view other smaller accounts just fine. but the main ledger does not display. however, if i click on some areas of the screen, it will display what i assume is the underlying text in the bottom status bar.
and when a window or some other graphic element 'over writes' any area, some remnants of the former image remain.

I just did an install of Natty into a separate partition and incurred several problems. I have a Dell-DXP061 with 4 GB of memory and an Nvidia GForce 7300LE and a Dell 27in. monitor at a resolution of 1920x1200.
Initially it booted in to Ubuntu Classic as expected due to needing a proprietary video driver. So the first thing I did was to install the recommended Nvidia driver and attempted to reboot. It would not start either Unity or Classic. So I did a re-installation and then selected the experimental open 3D driver and was then able to bring up the system in both Unity and Ubuntu Classic. I installed a number of programs including cairo-dock, which I really like, emacs23, and gnucash. I have used gnucash for years and consider it a necessity. However, the Natty version will not display correctly the "gnucash-data" file I created with version 2.2.9 that I have been running on 10.10. This is almost a show stopper for me.
When I try to do a restart, the screen goes black, "Ubuntu" appears with the little dots, three of the dots change color and the system hangs. The system only stops when I hold the power button to effect a complete power outage. Interestingly the LiveCD did not seem to have a problem with restart.
I can see how a causal user might like the Unity interface, but I don't think that I am interested. I guess I will stick to gnome for a while, at least until Gnome3 and then I am not sure where I will go.

I have been using gnucash for years and never had any problems but now every time I try to load it it crashes upon trying access an account. The sequence is that it first tells me it cannot get a lock on ANY of my files reporting that they may be in use by somebody else; this is impossible. However when I do load it the initial list of accounts installs.
However when I try to open any specific account Gnucash crashes. I am using Mepis 8.0 and Gnucash 2.2.6 directly from the repositories. I have removed it and reinstalled it but to no avail. I have tried to install version 2.2.9 as a tar file but I keep getting dependency errors despite the fact the files are installed.

So I think I almost have gnucash figured out. One problem though. When I try to import my stock quotes for my portfolios, It won't get any quotes for my OTC BB Stocks. Under the security editor, there is no option for OTC as an exchange. For example: CNEX. How would I set GnuCash up to import this quote?
