Ubuntu :: GnuCash - Connect Via Sshfs To The Program Icon On Desktop?
Jun 18, 2010
I use GnuCash on my desktop but want to be able to access it from my laptop. I can connect via sshfs to the program icon on my desktop but when I click it I am told I cannot do this due to security issues. does anyone know if its possible to get this to work?
I'm running FC13, and suddenly, when I try to connect a camera for picture download, the desktop icon that would otherwise open the camera's memory directory opens a network directory instead. Seems the inode is munged and misdirecting.
If I go cd .gvfs ls -i I get
2 gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005 an inode of 2? gphoto2 is broken too, but I'm not as worried about that.
In ubuntu 9.10, I connect the mobile device and a icon appears in desktop, but it doesn't start and doesn't connect. I went to "network connections" -> mobile broadband -> add -> select contry, bla bla bla ->insert PIN->apply
I'm trying to set up sshfs on a desktop/fileserver so that I can mount its HDD's I use for storage on my laptops. My issue seems to be getting permission to write to the mounted drives. I just keep getting permission denied. here is what I think are some relevant tidbits. mount point on server,
HDD I'm trying to mount Code: joe@joe-desktop:~$ ls -ld /dev/sda2 brwxrwxrwx 1 joe disk 8, 2 2010-10-17 15:22 /dev/sda2
Mount point on client Code: joe@joe-laptop:~$ ls -ld ~/sda2 drwxrwxrwx 2 joe joe 4096 2010-10-17 19:58 /home/joe/sda2
This is the command I'm trying to use to mount Code: sshfs joe@192.168.1.103:/home/joe/sda2 ~/sda2
I can chmod the mount on the server to 777 but as soon as I mount the HDD to the server all write permission just goes *poof* and its back to "drwxr-xr-x".Chown seems either, it just wont stick.
I tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?
I have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?
I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code: [Desktop Entry] X-SuSE-translate=true Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility; Comment=ETM Manager for time logging Exec=etmmanager code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like Code: Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online. My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied. It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.
Could you please help me to get the "Multiple Desktop Windows Icons" back on my KDE desktop panel?I accidentally disabled it by right clicking on bottom left of the panel and now i am not able to restore it back through System Setting > Multiple Desktop

I am trying to connect an Ubuntu 10.04 desktop system wirelessly to another desktop that is directly connected to a cable modem via dlink wireless router and ethernet card. I have not been able to connect on the second system (Ubuntu) to the wireless router.
Mounting a disk automatically from /etc/fstab puts an icon on the desktop, whether it's appropriate or not. How can I prevent this? Is there an option? I have two disks mounted with the commands /dev/sda2 /media/Windisk ntfs-3g defaults 0 0 //machine/sharename /media/myshare cifs guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8,codepage=cp850 0 0
silly little question here, but it has been bugging me for months.I have my desktop icons arranged in a certain way, as I'm sure 99% of computer users do. I like to have all the disks in one row. However, everytime i boot up, my external USB device is moved down a few rows. interestingly, it's always in the same spot.it's just that it is always in the same incorrect spot.
i just installed eclipse, the newewst version from the developer website of course, because the one out of the software center is more than outdated.
Now i have the problem that i don't have any icon in the starter. When i start eclipse i can right click on the icon and make it stick to the startet forever but it has no icon and i can't change it.
So my question is now: How do i add one to the starter? And i don't want to use the desktop right clicking and create a new starter variation of the solution. Firefox has no .desktop file for it's icon in the starter either.
P.S.: For the futurue version a right click on the starter->add or right click on and icon->edit
Searched forever on how to get an icon on the desktop that will give you the shutdown menu. Every post I found said it wasn't possible, but it can be done (and very simply too)!FYI, this was done in Karmic (9.10)
1. Right click on desktop and select "Create Launcher..." 2. Give it a name and in the command field put "gnome-session-save --shutdown-dialog"
I also found the icon "usrshareiconsHumanityactions48applicat ion-exit.svg" to be well suited to replace the standard launcher icon.
