I am using Endian firewall in order to connect two LANs but I am getting many problems and I don't know how to solve them since there is no much information about this software on the internet. Do yuo know good webpage about this powerful program?
View 5 RepliesCurrently we have migrated data from Unix linux. The data in Unix is in Big endian byte structure. Where are as Linux (suse linux) byte structure us little endian. This byte order mismatch is creating problem when data is read again in microfocus cobol.
Is there any way to set byte order in Linux is big endian?
Is there any utility to convert data in big endian byte structure to little endian byte order.
Our firewall (debian) currently has 4 public ip addresses (eth0 1.2.3.4, eth0:0 1.2.3.5, eth0:1 1.2.3.8, eth0:2 1.2.3.9) and 3 internal subnets (eth1 10.1.x.x, eth1:0 10.2.x.x, eth2 10.7.x.x). We are experiencing the following two problems which I believe have the same root cause. 1) The firewall cannot access beyond the isp gateway (1.2.3.1). 2) From externally, we can ping eth0 with no trouble, however, pinging the eth0:0, eth0:1 and eth0:2 interfaces have results similar to the following:

I get the feeling that I'm missing something obvious, especially since all traffic on the internal subnets can access externally as normal.
Have you ever created a VPN connection between two LANs which are geographically far away? For example LAN1 is 192.168.1.0 and LAN2 is 10.0.0.0. If I am in LAN1 I would like to be able to ping 10.0.0.1 and get packets back.
I am trying to do it with OpenVPN. I can connect two computers from both LANs using their virtual IP but I can't do that with their private IP. I think the solution must be in creating a bridge or using the "push" command of OpenVPN, unfortunately I haven't found clear information within the internet.

I have my ISP internet connection coming into my belkin, which I then have the 2 netgear routers (from their WAN) plugged into Belkins LAN ports. Now the Ubuntu computers I have on Netgear LAN 1 and Netgear LAN2 can get to Belkin just fine (at 192.168.1.1), but I am unable to access a computer on LAN1 from a computer on LAN2 and vice-versa. My Belkin is 192.168.1.1, my Netgear1 WAN is 192.168.1.100 and Netgear2 WAN is 192.168.1.200. I have the netgears both assigning DHCP IP's from range of 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.150 on their LAN ports.
Now, I have set Netgear LAN1 port 80 NAT'd to go to one of my computers on it. I try to access 192.168.1.100:80 from a computer on Netgear LAN2 network and it say host unreachable.What am I doing wrong?
I have 2 routers, each are assigning IP with DHCP on. One router is plugged into cable modem second router is downstairs plugged into first router. Wire runs in WAN of second router. Each router has its own IP subset. First router assigns IP's to 192.168.1.xxx second router IP's to 10.0.0.xxx
I know I can use the second router as an AP with DHCP OFF. BIG BUT though is my wifi verizon phone got no IP assigned when running like that and wirelessly connecting to the second router. Laptops were just fine. SO, I reconfigured second router with its own subset IP being handed out. Now verizon phone is perfect.
How can I share files between connected PC's using it this way?
I'm trying to setup OpenVPN in order to connect back to my home network while traveling for secure browsing and such. However, before I can even start trying to set that up I tried to see if I could open port check my computer through the net. And I'm having a hard time doing that.
As far as I can tell, here are my roadblocks:
1. Is ISP (Qwest) blocking my ports?
2. Is my modem doing the proper port forwarding and firewall?
3. Is my router doing the same?
4. Is my firewall on the computer allowing the request?
To minimize sources of error, I've turned off my local and router firewall and setup my router to forward ports. I'm not to familiar with my modem, but I'm pretty sure that the firewall is turned off by default and I think I've done port-forwarding correctly. But still no success when doing an open port check. At this point I don't know how to diagnose the problem.
I have set up OpenVPN server using a bridged configuration. My networking "powers" aren't that advanced, so I did this by following the openvpn tutorial for bridged servers. I have tested this with several clients connecting to my server from different locations and it works very nicely (including broadcasts).
My server's LAN IP address is 192.168.2.4, and my LAN's mask is 24. Clients connecting to my server get assigned IP address that also fall within that subnet (i.e., the 192.168.2.x pool contains both physical machines in my home and "virtual" hosts). This is what the OpenVPN walkthrough specifies:

I was wondering if it would be possible for the VPN to fall within a different subnet (such as 10.0.1.x). I would also like to do that without adding another physical NIC to my server, or changing my physical IP address. I would imagine this is possible, since that's how hamachi does it.

I'm trying to establish a connection between two seperate ADSL LANs (coming into the house, but from separate ISPs) to a situation where all hosts on either LAN will be able to reach any host on eiher LAN WITHOUT having to use an excess of plastic routers around the house, and please no Wireless bridges. WiFi will only be available as Access Points.
I've heard that Debian does this kind of static routintg / RIP stuff quite well. And I just happen to have one lined up in the right place, that haven't got at snowballs chance in hell of running WINXP or above. But it kills at textbased datamanipulation/forwarding/rerouting/dropping/scanning ... so I'vew made up my mind. That is what I want to do... Now how do io get around doing stuff like that.
The Debian box is connected to both networks: Hostname: AsusAnd
(192.168.1.0/24 - TDC network)
and to
(192.168.15.0/24 - Profiber network)
Needless to say, but both netmasks are 255.25.255.0 hence the /24 The respective router's LAN addresses are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.15.1 My Debian are locked to the following IP's (reserved DHCP):
eth0:192.158.1.56 via DHCP from 192.168.1.1
eth1:192.168.15.177 via DHCP from 192.168.15.1
So far so good - Now here we go ! This is not a scenario where i'd like to always want all network-packages to travel the shortest path, nor NESSESARILY use the other ISPs gateway if the first is down or slow, although that'll be super nice.
I suspect that'll involve router-protocols like RIP. I'll be super pleased to get some guidelines there as well, as i suspect it'll be quite easy to implement once everything else is in place. Although RIP isn't our main goal, it probably comes as a close second. I think we all would like as stable and fast a connection as possible.
I was actually so naive that i thought if i added two static routes to the two routers x.x.1.1 and x.x.15.1, that my problems would automatically be solved by my Debian box, and that it would automatically act as a gateway when the routers send their packages for the other net. As long as i was connected to both LANs at the same time.
Note: I haven't changed or tweaked the Debian kernel to do routing. this is a simple stable install from the net-inst.iso of Debian 5. I'd like to keep it that way unless there's no way around it.
my routers have static routes to each other (WITH PROPER CABLING), configured as follows:

The goal is to make connection calls (ssh, ping, ...) possible from one LAN (LAN-1) to a number of (at the moment two) separate smaller LANs.These smaller LANs (LAN-2a, LAN-2b, ...) have exact same specifications (same IP range, same number of nodes, ...)!The idea is to use a Fedora box (release 14 with 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686) and implement an appropriate iptables routing/forwarding.The Fedora box has three network interfaces:

For some simulation, I am trying to configure a setup of 3 ubuntu desktops (one of them with multiple network cards) to behave in the following way:
Each one of them should be a separate network not seeing the others (including multicast addresses) They need to have internet access through the machine with multiple network cards. So from the point of view of each machine they define a LAN in which it is the only device and have internet access through the gateway machine.
What do I need to do to configure these machines for the above setup?
I'm using virtual network (NAT network) for my domU.When I change dom0's firewall setup, the domU will fail to connect to Internet anymore.So far, the only way to bring the network back is reboot dom0 !I try to restart service network and libvirtd on dom0 ... it doesn't work.How can I bring the domU network back without reboot dom0 ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am learning to setup firewall in my home for that i have selected four system(sys1,sys2....sys4) for testing .I have configured sys2 to act as a firewall with two NIC. sys3 and sys4 are inside the firewall . sys1 is not connected to firewall for testing purpose.
the IP assignments are follows :
sys1 : ( fedora, not connected to firewall i am thinking, But i am not sure )
IP : 192.168.2.1 ,
gateway : blank
dns1 : blank
dns2 : blank
sys2 firewall ,IPTABLES )

what happened is that sys1(not connected to firewall) can ssh to sys4(connected,inside firewall),since the rules are written not to ssh form sys1 to sys4..
then I came to know whatever the request I give, It directly goes as sys1 --> sys4. Not as sys1-----> sys2(firewall)---> sys4 .and the firewall is not filtering and processing anything for both inbound and outbound (i think it's my mistake some where). the requests are directly going inside without firewall.
I'm attempting to install Webmin in Endian I download the tar.gz file and ran setup.sh and it says it is installed, however it doesn't let me go to the webpage it says. I get a timeout error. I'm using the current version of endian and webmin.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am using 9.10 karmic. Firewall is enabled. added ports with ufw allow [portnumber], and i still cannot connect to a port number. iv tryed ufw allow ssh/tcp but that does not work. the ports work when i disable the firewall and i dont want to do that.
ufw is available in all new installations of Ubuntu since 8.04 LTS, but is disabled by default. The standard Ubuntu installation has a no open service ports policy, so enabling the firewall by default doesn't gain any extra security in the default installation, but could provide confusion for people new to Ubuntu when new software that is installed does not work because of restrictive firewall rules. As a result, when first adding ufw to Ubuntu it was decided that users must 'opt-in' to using the firewall. In Ubuntu 9.04 and later, you can enable ufw during installation using preseeding. See /usr/share/doc/ufw/README.Debian for details.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala recently and I am having trouble getting onto a wireless LAN. Moreover, no wireless networks actually appear under the network manager in the toolbar.how I can fix this?FYI I am using a toshiba laptop (not sure of the version), kernel 2.6.31-22-generic. I have been reading around online and haven't found much help. Do I need to install wireless drivers?

They are both connected to my wireless router to connect to the internet.
in my text file of 5 columns 2 column is in DDMMYYYY format. (ie DATE OF BIRTH). how to use sort command for its ascending order and descending order.
Is the same can be use for the date format YYYYMMDD ?
I suspect this is an initial configuration bug. All firewall logs seem to be going to all
three files. That causes a lot of clutter in the log files, and makes it difficult to see whether there are any serious problems being logged.
I'm trying to build firewall on Debian with 'Firewall Builder'. But it won't let me compile and run unless one interface is set as management. There are two interfaces on my computer: 'eth0' and 'lo'
I don't want to be able to configure firewall remotely, so could I use 'lo' as 'management interface'?
I have a sh-tty B/G wireless card that does 500mw according to iwconfig. I also have a nice little panel antenna on this card that does 7dBi. This rig picks up a lot of signals and that is really great. However I am experiencing a problem. I am able to Internet browse on non-encrypted networks as long as the wireless manager shows a full four bars. However, if I try to connect to a three bar network, I will not be able to browse the Internet. I have a solid lower level 3 bars, I'm assigned an IP addy, but I get absolutely no throughput.
So, I think this has something to do with receiver sensitivity. In G mode, this card does a lousy -65ish or so at 54 meg. So what I'd like to do is drop to 5.5 or 11 meg B because at 5.5 meg or 11 meg B, the card does a much more acceptable 90+ sensitivity.Does anyone have the command string/app for this? I would like to force a card to operate in no better than 802.11B@5.5meg rather than having it auto select 802.11G@54meg.
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with a Dlink DGE-530T NIC. My browsing in Ubuntu on ALL browsers is horribly slow. It works perfectly fine on windows and other PCs on the LAN. So I know for sure my router and my internet line is fine.I figured it could be a problem with my NIC drivers and decided to install the drivers from the CD. (All this while it was running on the default drivers that ship with Ubuntu). I'm trying to install the sk98lin drivers and my understanding of the kernel so far is still very weak. When I try to run the install.sh script it gives me an error saying :

Everybody connects to internet trough an Access Point (Lynksys RWT120N), which, in turn, connects to a WatchWard/Firebox red box. I suppose this is the equipment that does the VPN stuff. Finally, the red box connects to a DSL modem from our ISP.The problem is: Everybody on the office can connect to the AP and surf the internet without any issues, excepting me when I connect with ubuntu 10.10. I have windows on the same machine and I can access the internet without problems.
What I have seen so far is that Network Manager associates with the AP, gets what I would consider all the expected information from DHCP, but internet connectivity is none.For "expected information from DHCP" i mean: IP address, gateway, and DNS.I can ping my assigned IP address, the gateway and even other machines in the same network. I cannot ping the DNS or other external IP addresses.
i installed the free PacketIX vpn client on my ubuntu 9.04. it created a virtual network adapter, i was able to configure and connect to the VPN service but when i add a default route to the routing table so that all internet traffic goes through the VPN, my internet connection stops working until i remove the line i added.
