OpenSUSE Install :: Start A Browser It Asks To Enter Root Password?

Sep 7, 2011

Whenever I start a browser, it asks me to enter my root password because of some pgp keyring issue. I set my password as standard in seahorse, but no change.

The Gnome3 interface sometimes lags very noticeably.

Packagekit constantly blocks my zypper use, and it won't shut down. Not even after I log out and log in again. I tried just removing everything related to packagekit, but that just breaks everything.

Searching for repositories is a pain and there are too many different ones and I never know which one is the latest and how these will be upgraded in the future. Zypper itself is awesome, everything else about package and repo management is not.

I can't uninstall applications properly. I remove them via zypper, and when I do a distro update they get added back in. (gnome games for example)

Whenever I install or search for anything in zypper, I get hundreds of these errors: GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)..but it still finds something.

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Manager Requires To Enter Password Every Time - Login To Unlock Password Keyring?

Jan 29, 2009

I've tried Ubuntu, Arch, and most recently Fedora but the SUSE GNOME environment blows everything else away!

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.

I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).

Server :: Disabling Of Ssh Prompting For Password

Jul 19, 2011

There are over a dozen of servers that I need to monitor for services running on them. Hence, I have created a separate VM on which I am hosting scripts for various purposes. I have written a script (bash) that checks the status of the services running on those servers. Since my script has this line of command (for example):

Code: /sbin/service vsftpd status I have created a user (let's name it user_monitor) and added it to /etc/sudoers file by issuing "visudo" on all the servers. Since I need to execute the command remotely from the VM so I have generated a Public RSA Key (ssh-heygen) and added it to "authorized_keys" file on all the servers. But on some servers when issue a command such as the following:

OpenSUSE :: Require A User To Enter Password To Open Terminal?

Sep 21, 2010

I'm in the process of configuring a "guest" account for houseguests tose my computer. I've got the file permissions set, but I'd also like to restrict their access to the terminal. It seems to me that most of the damage that can be done to a computer goes through the terminal.I downloaded Pessulus (I use Gnome)but it doesn't require a password. the profiled user can just open Pessulus and alter their profile -- what's the point? Is there a way I can require a user to enter a password, either for any terminal or Pessulus?I like Pessulus -- it's concise and easy to use. But it doesn't seem very secure as I understand it.

Ubuntu :: 9.10 Not Prompting For Password In Any Mail Client?

Apr 5, 2010

I'm having problems setting up an email client. Tried both Evolution (which looks good) and Thunderbird but both of them will not prompt for my password when connecting to my mail servers. I've quadruple checked my settings and everything looks OK however I do not get the password prompt.Creating an account in Evolution is almost the same as that shown in the documentation but I do not get prompted for the time zone. Checking where Evolution stores the passwords also comes up with different results on my computer as the location specified does exist but is empty.Evolution is running at 2.28.1 and Thunderbird is 2.0.0.24

Ubuntu :: Evolution Not Prompting For Password (keyring)

May 1, 2010

I have installed Ubuntu three times now, and I'm running into same problem all the time, both with Karmic Koala (9.10) and now also Lucid Lynx (10.04):

When I configure Evolution for IMAP access to my GMAIL account, it never prompts me for a password. Instead, I guess Evolution tries to connect without any password and fails every time. Switching to Thunderbird didn't do the trick either, so I think it might have something to do with the Keyring daemon. My Internet connection is fine, as I can access my account under other operating systems.

Things I've tried so far:

"Forget passwords" in the evolution menu
Forcing shutdown of evolution and deleting the ~/.evolution folder (as suggested by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221112)
Accessing the keyring and deleting the default keyring

CentOS 5 :: LDAP Accounts Prompting For Password Change

May 12, 2011

I am using CentOS 5.6 and recently, well since I updated to 5.6 when I login through ssh/telnet I am prompted to change the password of any account which is my LDAP directory. Local accounts are unaffected. I haven't tried the console as this server is tucked away in a tiny room. This is really annoying because I don't want to run password expiry on that server and I'm sure that there's nothing in LDAP to indicate password expiry is on. My shadowmax is 9999 by default for every account..which is over 27 years I think. It's only started recently. I'd like to know how I can turn the expiry message off. I'd like to get rid of cracklib as well.

Ubuntu Servers :: Sudo No Longer Prompting For Password / Resolve This?

Aug 16, 2011

I am suddenly not prompted for my password when I run any command as sudo on a few of my Ubuntu servers.

if I run sudo -K, the session is cleared, and I am prompted again for my password, however it saves/caches it until I run sudo -k again even if I log out and back in. I want it to prompt me for my password, as it should (and did) by default, for security.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Here's my /etc/sudoers file code...

Sep 4, 2010

I bought a new laptop in which a Linux Suse Enterprise Desktop is installed,After that, I installed Windows 7 by the common method: Using Gparted CD, but the problem is that after the end of the installing of Windows 7, the latter became as the first only OS installed in, and the grub of Linux Suse has been disabled , and the only way to enable the grab (in order to use dual-boot, switch between Suse and Win7) is to use the Linux Suse CD and enter to it for enter some prompt command (as u know), but I didn't get the CD with the attached pack, I got instead of it, a System Recovery CD, the only option shown in the first page is to restore the system and not to enter it

Hence my question: How can I enter to linuxSuse to enable the grub to activate the dual-boot?Can't I enable the dual-boot from command line of Windows 7?

Ubuntu :: Can't Enter @ Symbol In Password

Oct 30, 2010

After upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, my laptop wouldn't boot into the GUI. I followed some steps that someone had posted at was able to get X back and working. Now, my laptop lost power without being shut down. I let it fix my disks, and I'm now back in the command line and can't get X working. Here's the weird thing...in the command line, I can enter my username ok, but it won't accept my password. I've figured out that it is the @ symbol in my password that messes things up. (I figured this out because when I typed something in the username, like "test" and then hit the @ key, it erases "test". I imagine it does the same thing and erases my password.)
