Ubuntu :: Nautilus Stopped Working In 9.10?

Aug 23, 2010

I got a call from a friend who did the distrubution upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 and all was well for about 2 weeks and then his desktop icons disappeared. He kept running it that way and never looked for help until a couple of days ago he tried to plug in a card reader to get some pictures from his camera and nothing happened. that was when he discovered that he couldn't run Nautilus at all. I had him purge nautilus and reinstall it but then he couldn't even log in to Ubuntu. Very strange indeed. Anyone else experience this? After going over all the settings and finding them what they should be, I just installed 10.04 and all is well except that he lost a few photos.

Ive also tried installing totem-xine, but it still makes no difference.

I have been using Maverick since the release candidate was released. I also installed nautilus elementary (the latest version). The inbuilt terminal works great, but the clutterflow option in the view menu only brings up a blank black screen with the file name only [URL]. The terminal gives this:

The context menu has no drop shadow and very difficult to notice it's window pop up from the background. I also attached another screenshot to show the drop shadow i am talking about.

Programming :: Mount Expression Not Working In Nautilus Script?

May 20, 2011

Here is a segment from a script (the script is complicated so I'll just post the problem)

Code:
echo "sudo mount -o loop $eFile $eMount" > syntax.txt
sudo mount -o loop $eFile $eMount &> error.log

For debugging, I have the first line that echoes back the command being run (so I can find obvious syntax errors) and the second line runs the command.

The first line returns:

Code:
sudo mount -o loop /home/abigail.dunning/Training/1994-2010 Linux Journal Master Collection.iso /media/iso/1994-2010 Linux Journal Master Collection

If this line is cut and pasted into a bash shell it runs and the mount occurs fine.

However, this is being run in a nautilus script and the output of the same mount command is the syntax for mount?

Code:
# contents of error.log
Usage: mount -V : print version
mount -h : print this help
mount : list mounted filesystems

[Code].....

Ubuntu :: Shortcut To Access Sudo Nautilus (gksudo Nautilus) From The Current Window

Is it possible to change my current nautilus window to have sudo capabilities,? e.g. to delete locked files. Ubuntu :: Move Nautilus Location Bar In Nautilus Up By Toolbar?

Apr 11, 2010

Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2qdsyll.jpg

I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.

By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.

I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.

If I select cancel three times (on the troublesome unit), the desired directory opens but then the same routine occurs with the next directory change.

Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Error In Nautilus Ver 9.10

Aug 19, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 9.10. I am trying to make a folder shareable so a windows XP computer can have both read and write access to the folder. I am using Nautilus to configure access and I get the error:

Quote:

This is the screen before selecting read/write access Prop1.png

This is the screen after unsuccessfully selecting read/write access. Prop2.png

I have attempted this before using this facility and I do have read access to the folder using the windows computer. But I need read/write access.

I've tried to RTFM and look through the forums. The samba service is running:

Quote:

At the command line Samba's testparm command kicked out many errors. This is puzzling because I did not edit the smb.conf file, Nautilus did. The parameters that testparm complains about appear to have correct syntax according to the Samba Team Website .

I also went into the Synaptic package manager and tried to re-install Samba with no effect. I would install the 10.04 LTS version but I've heard that has problems too.

Is this a permissions issue? The user I am logged onto has "permission to configure the system" checked under system-->administration-->users and groups.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Mount Share Via Nautilus?

Jan 21, 2011

used to work perfectly with my password being memorised and all, I would click on network, select the desired pc and access my shares on the network perdectly. As far as I can say nothing has changed, same username and password and workgroup, however when I now select the computer I desired to connect in Nautilus it ask for my password and username (which I know), but it doesn't connect, it continually ask for it.

The weirdest part (which make me believe the problem comes from my machine) is I can mount the network drive using "mount -t smbfs", with my usual login details Why has the graphical nautilus interface stopped working?

Ubuntu Networking :: Nautilus Can't Connect To Win7 Share?

Jan 18, 2010

My Ubuntu Desktop (9.10, 64-bit) VM can't connect to my Windows 7 (64-bit, Ultimate) File Share using Nautilus. I enter "smb://<comuterName>" in the address bar and then it comes up with a password dialog (see screenshot) and then after entering the correct login info, the dialog disappears for a second or two but then reappears again. The dialog always comes back up and the share is never mounted. Connecting from an XP box on the network to the windows 7 share works just fine. Connecting from the Ubuntu machine to the windows 7 share using the appropriate 'smbmount' command works just fine. Connecting from the Ubuntu machine (using the nautilus GUI) to the XP box (password protected) works just fine. Then I turned off password protection in Win7, rebooted the win7 machine, and still all of the above tests turned out the same. And the Ubuntu machine still doesn't connect to the windows share using the nautilus GUI, and still displays the password dialog even though no password is required anymore. I tried using smbclient to view the shares, here is the output (not sure if I should be trying something else using the smbclient program):eddie@eddie-ubuntu:~$ smbclient -L eddie-win7 Enter eddie's password: session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0

I'd like to know how to connect Ubuntu to the windows 7 share using the nautilus GUI. If it's a bug, I'd like to file it (I think it is). But first I would like some direction trouble-shooting to make sure it is in fact a bug. (I think I read elsewhere on this forum that someone connected Karmic to win7 share, so maybe it's not a reproducible bug. But then again, maybe they weren't using 64-bit Karmic...)
