Ubuntu Networking :: Active FTP With Nautilus / Connect To Server?

Jul 16, 2010

I need to connect to an FTP server that only accepts active FTP connections. (In Windows, I have to uncheck the "use passive FTP" option in Folder Options in order to connect) Is there a way to do this with Ubuntu's Connect to Server system/Nautilus? I would like to be able to interact with the files as if they were local, as I can on other FTPs and on Windows.

Ubuntu Networking :: Nautilus Connect To Server - FTP Anonymous User

Jan 20, 2010

I'm trying to use Nautilus's connect to server to connect to an ftp server, but I'm having a problem. The username on the ftp server is "anonymous", but it requires a password. When Nautilus sees "anonymous" as the username it assumes it's dealing with a public ftp server and doesn't prompt for a password, and then, of course, I fail to connect.

I've tried modifying the .gtk-bookmarks file to account for this, but this leads to another problem. The password opens with a / and for whatever reason, this leads to Nautilus popping up an error: "Could not connect to ftp://anonymous:0/[rest of password]@[server]". It's adding a "0" to the beginning of my password for some reason. Is there any way to fix this without changing the password?

Ubuntu Security :: Nautilus: Connect To Server Using Public Keys

Mar 31, 2010

I am using Nautilus to connect to an external server. Currently, I use password authentication, and all works fine. I just type sftp://SERVER and the connection is established after providing the login credentials. However, I changed the server to only accept Public Key Authentication and disabled password authentication, and as a consequence I could not login using Nautilus anymore. Is there some way to make this work?

Ubuntu Networking :: Nautilus Can't Connect To Win7 Share?

Jan 18, 2010

My Ubuntu Desktop (9.10, 64-bit) VM can't connect to my Windows 7 (64-bit, Ultimate) File Share using Nautilus. I enter "smb://<comuterName>" in the address bar and then it comes up with a password dialog (see screenshot) and then after entering the correct login info, the dialog disappears for a second or two but then reappears again. The dialog always comes back up and the share is never mounted. Connecting from an XP box on the network to the windows 7 share works just fine. Connecting from the Ubuntu machine to the windows 7 share using the appropriate 'smbmount' command works just fine. Connecting from the Ubuntu machine (using the nautilus GUI) to the XP box (password protected) works just fine. Then I turned off password protection in Win7, rebooted the win7 machine, and still all of the above tests turned out the same. And the Ubuntu machine still doesn't connect to the windows share using the nautilus GUI, and still displays the password dialog even though no password is required anymore. I tried using smbclient to view the shares, here is the output (not sure if I should be trying something else using the smbclient program):eddie@eddie-ubuntu:~$ smbclient -L eddie-win7 Enter eddie's password: session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0

I'd like to know how to connect Ubuntu to the windows 7 share using the nautilus GUI. If it's a bug, I'd like to file it (I think it is). But first I would like some direction trouble-shooting to make sure it is in fact a bug. (I think I read elsewhere on this forum that someone connected Karmic to win7 share, so maybe it's not a reproducible bug. But then again, maybe they weren't using 64-bit Karmic...)

Ubuntu Networking :: Nautilus Won't Connect To Windows Shares?

After running updates earlier today, none of my Ubuntu-based computers can connect to any Windows shares in Nautilus.Samba is running and working fine; I can access the shares via web browser using smb://hostname, so I know it's not an issue with Samba not working. Also, the two Windows-based computers can see each others' shares, including printers.

Ubuntu Networking :: Nautilus Cannot Login Samba Server

Apr 30, 2010

I have a Debian and a Ubuntu box. I installed a samba server on Debian box. I can log in the samba share folders from Windows boxes. Since the samba server has SHARE security mode, I need password only. But when I try to log in the samba share folders from Ubuntu box using nautilus, it asks username, domain and password. I cannot log in share folders on the Debian box. There is no message. Nautilus keep showing the password input box until i cancel it.So I use smbmount command. It works well. But that way is not comfortable at all. Anyone can help me logging in samba share in nautilus?

Ubuntu Networking :: Login Multiple Ftp Accounts On Same Its Server Using Nautilus?

Jun 5, 2010

I googled a lot but I didn't find anything about this. I have multiple accounts on the same ftp server (the server is not mine I don't access its configuration)

If I write ftp://hostname on the location bar it lets me login, but only allow me to be in only one account at a time. Putting ftp://hostname on the location again just opens the account I logged into and I'm unable to login to the other account to move files between them conveniently.

Is it possible to log into multiple accounts on the same server?

Networking :: 3 Nics - Connect To Internet - Share To Local Net - And Connect To Local Net - Not Working

Sep 15, 2009

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1650 server with 3 NICs in it. I am trying to use one NIC (eth0) to connect to the internet, the second NIC (eth1) to share the internet connection to a LAN, and the third NIC (eth2) to connect to the LAN.

It is running Ubuntu server 8.10

The problem that I'm having is that NetworkManager (version 0.7.0) keeps setting eth2 as the default connection, and then I don't get any internet at all from the server.

My main goal is to be able to share files from the server to computers on the LAN. The secondary goal is to have a virtual machine hosting a Halo server, connected through eth2, so that it can host LAN games. But that is a secondary goal after I get the connections to work.

I've been looking around and finding other people who have done bits and pieces of this, but not the whole thing. I had been hoping to simply use the NetworkManger, but I don't mind editing config files.

Also I can't seem to find any good instructions on editing the /etc/network/interfaces file. The man file is incomplete, and everything seems to point back to the man file.

Ubuntu :: Vpn Server Not Working - Can't Connect?

Jul 25, 2011

I have set up a computer with ubuntu server. I have tried installing vpn-server pptpd, but I can't get it to work over the internet. The server works fine over lan. The symptoms leads me to believe that there is a problem withmy routerthe network that I connect from on the internet.I have a Cisco/Linksys E3000. For those familier with the router, I have enabled everything under security - VPN Passthrough. I have also forwarded the following ports to my server:500 UDP,1723 TCP, 1701, TCP AND UDP.

I have tried to connect using two methods.Using my work computer to connect through mobile internetHaving a friend try the connection from his home network. Both attempts yield somewhat interesting results:The connection takes a long time, and fails after about 30 seconds. (we are both using win 7. he has also disabled firewall both on network and his router)Even more interesting are what I can gather from the command:netstat -anp | grep pptpdIf I run one netstat when I make a successfull connection from my LAN, and one when my friend tries to connect through the internet, the results are identical apart from our IP's. This leads me to believe that there is nothing wrong with neither my network or my friends.

However what I want to do is get the server working so that I can remote connect to users. When I do connect instead of the active session all I get is a grey screen with an xterm window. I've done a lot of searching for this, but cannot seem to find a good answer. What I'd like to do is connect to the native X session. I've tried changing things in the xstartup file to things such as "-display :0" but it still doesn't work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Error - Cannot Connect To Server - You Must Enter A Name For The Server

Apr 17, 2011

In Gnome Places->Connect To Server dialog, I am having problem using the Custom Location Service Type. I enter in the URI as

Code:

smb://username:password@ipaddress/share_name

I get an pop up error message that says:

Quote:

Cannot Connect To Server. You must enter a name for the server.

Which would be fine if there was actually a place for me to enter the name which there is not. What am I doing wrong. This is the first time I have tried using the Connect To Server dialog. Normally I just use a script I wrote to mount my share in a folder on my local drive as some programs cannot access the mounted network folder. In a browser all I have to do is:

Code:

smb://ipaddress/share_name

I tried using Windows Shares, but that did not work either. It does work if I click on network and access the share that way, but some programs like firefox and a few others that I want to save a file to my network drive do not show the network unless the share is mounted in a folder. So, I wrote a script:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
#mount ext storage drive
mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/files -o username="username",password="password" /mnt/files

This works and I can use this, but it would be handy if I could just use the Connect To Server dialog.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Working, Network Appears In List, But Does Not Connect To It?

Mar 16, 2011

I'm having some problems with my wireless connection. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, on a HP ProBook 4520s, with a RaLink RT3090 wireless network card. I installed the drivers (hopefully correctly), the wireless seems to work correctly, it scans and finds networks, but when I try to connect to one, it times out after some time, while still attempting to connect. I also have a wired connection that works correctly and without problems. Other computers that try to connect to said wireless network manage to do so without any problems, so this has left me a bit baffled, since, like I said, everything seems to be in order.

I'm a new Ubuntu user, so please tell me what other information I need to provide in order to easily and successfully facilitate troubleshooting this, because it is, as you can imagine, quite aggravating, having a laptop that needs to be connected to the internet through a cable.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Server Over WAN

Apr 25, 2011

Ok this may seem like a "USE SEARCH FUNCTION" Topic at first, but trust me i have.

So my problem is the following:

I installed Ubuntu Sever 10.10 on a old PC of mine and installed all the required stuff for a webserver (apache, sql, php, ftp, ssh, etc)

Our network system is one of these stupid kinds, it's a brigded connection to the ISP so every computer on our LAN gets its IP directly from the ISP and there is no local IP addresses (port forwarding isn't needed)

This might be relevant but our LAN is build as follows.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< -----------Switch with WLAN ------- My laptop (WLAN)
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< |
Modem/router --------------
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< |<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<---- Windows 7 PC
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< -------------- Switch ----- |
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< |<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< --- Ubuntu Server
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< 2 other PCs

My Windows 7 PC can at all times connect to the server over ssh, ftp and http, no problems. But my laptop, and my friend from his place can only connect to the server if I have recently connected with the Windows 7 PC.

If there is no connection for a while and i try to connect with laptop or from friends place the connection just times out...
