I have loaded ubuntu 9.10, and am not getting internet from my router using a linksys EG1032. I have found articles stating that i should use the sk (URL...) or nge URL...)drivers. According to the instructions i found, they require that i make changes to my kernel config. I do not know how to do that, or if doing so is wise.If someone would help me figure out how to connect this NIC card.
View 7 RepliesI've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and everything seems to be working fine, but I can't seem to connect to my wireless network. I am able to see the wireless networks nearby, so I'm guessing that means the drivers are fine and the hardware is working. When I try to connect, I am seeing the wireless networks of my neighbors, but mine isn't showing. So I manually enter the information in and try to connect, but it doesn't seem to connect. I enter the WEP key and it attempts, then the WEP key screen pops up again, as if I entered the key incorrectly. I've tried many times and I'm 100% certain my key is correct. By the way, the chipset is: Ralink RT61
Which means it really should just work out of the box.
I am trying to connect my desktop to the internet via my Linksys wireless usb WUSB11v2.8 adapter. My network showed up in the Network manager as soon as I installed Fedora and it asked for my network key, but it still doesn't connect. It just keeps asking.I was reading that possibly the driver is not compatible with the OS. I heard about RPMs and the ndiswrapper program that supposedly is supposed to help with compatibility issues so I went and installed both via a direct ethernet connection.
I guess my question is now since I have these programs, what else do I need and how do I go about completing the installation? I pretty much need to be baby stepped by step into how to do this including the best place to install the software, what files do I need, and where and how if I even need to get my device's chipset.

Linksys wireless router (that is providing your home/office with wireless Internet) The WRE54G can be purchased online through various websites, including eBay. I'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.
I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.

I can connect to other wireless networks fine - it seems to just be this router. The wireless indicator applet thing shows that I'm trying to connect, but the password box always just pops up again and again. I'm certain I've got the password correct and am able to connect under OSX on the same computer. Connecting to it via ethernet also works fine.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my formerly XP system, and I'm trying to get my wireless network working. I have a Linksys WUSB11 v2.6 wireless adapter connected by USB to the system.
The system networking icon reports "No wired networks".
I'm not sure whether or not the system sees the USB ports... If so, it apparently doesn't recognize the adapter.
I saw a few posts that indicated that this adapter didn't work on 10.04 but it had worked on 9.04.
I'm looking for any info to get this working, including any or all of the following:
* How to determine if the system sees the USB ports (or is it "obvious" that it does)
* Should the wireless adapter work just by plugging it in?
* How to troubleshoot the networking adapter to get it working
* (If downgrading to 9.04 is likely to solve the problem) how to downgrade to 9.04 from 10.04...

We just moved and our setup has reversed (router is near their computer, I am using the usb adapter). I just installed the latest Ubuntu and now I can't get the usb adapter to work. I'm very new to Linux and I have no idea what to do. I think this is the same usb adapter.

I need to run the setup CD to go ahead. I searched more than three hours to find out how to run this CD so that I can complete the setup of my new modem-router but did not find any solution.
My old ubuntu laptop beeps 3 time on startup and then freezes. This forced me to install 10.04 on a new laptop. Now I can't get the linksys wpc54gs ver 2 to get connect. I can see the router with a padlock by it. I pretty sure I have the correct password in the right spot. I can access the internet with the wire connection. I'm sure it something simple I forgot from before when the card was working in the old laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere is the situation: I am currently running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. I'm trying to get my Linksys AE1000 to run correctly. I have followed many tutorials but most notably was:[URL].. lsmod shows that rt3572sta is loaded. network manager in gnome is able to find my router. my problem occurs when it tries to connect to the router using wpa2 security. It continually asks for the wireless password then will freeze the system after a number of attempts. After digging in for a bit, I was able to dig out a dmesg trapping the error:

I really don't see the need to continue on with those error messages lsmod still shows rt3572sta after the failure. In case anyone wants to see the changes I have made to the files before the make, I have included them. but changed the extension to "txt" to accommodate the up-loader and my rt_linux is too big to fit here, just not that it was 2 lines that were changed to work with the kernel. If anyone wants to know what I mean by the system freezes, I do mean just that. The mouse will continue to work, but I am then unable to open any programs, unable to reboot the computer. it requires a hard reset.
I have uninstalled the drivers, installed them, make them, make install them, make clean, start from scratch a few times, and am getting no give here.
I am dual booting XP and Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6410 and I have a Linksys WRT120N router connected to my Modem.
So the weird thing is, under XP I can use the internet while connected to my router. Under Ubuntu I can't use the internet while connected to my router. But I can use the internet in Ubuntu if I connect to my neighbor's router called "linksys". So something happens when I connect to my router that makes Ubuntu not able to access the internet. But if I'm connected to my Neighbors router or if I use XP while connected to my router I can use the internet.
I have been using Ubuntu for about a year, so I'm getting better but still a noob. I've tried to figure out what's going on by looking at other forums and posts and trying to see if anyone has solved this. So far I've had no luck. This is also the first of many problem I have encountered that I have been unable to solve using online posts, and is the first problem that I have had to resorted to creating a post to try and fix.
I connect to multiple wireless system each day but when I encounter a Linksys-n router the computer will recognize it and connect but does not go online.
Does this give any clue for why it will not connect?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI couldn't find any details on how to do this on Ubuntu, so I figured I'd share for anybody who needs to do that. I got this adapter from a garage sale, it's meant for use with vonage service, it has a web interface with disabled voice tab, and a hidden voice admin page. My goal was to access (unlock) those pages, so that I can use it with one of the free sip providers.
The main thread on how to do this is over at bargainshare forums, the only thing I'm adding here is how to do it on Ubuntu as opposed to windows:[URL]... I will write the simplist path using typical defaults, if your setup deviates or if one of the steps below fails, please refer to the original guide at this link to sort things out. Important note: the pc used in the procedure shouldn't be connected to the internet. Internet access is only needed to get files, programs and instructions, either before using the pc for this procedure, or through a separate pc.
Adapter setup:Do NOT connect the adapter to the internet especially if it has been out of service for a while. Connect an ethernet cable to one of the lan ports on the adapter and in a browser go to 192.168.15.1, this is the default lan gateway address. When prompted to log in use admin/admin again that's the default First thing needed is to flash a special unlocking firmware that allows the adapter to acquire clear text configuration file (as opposed to the encrypted vonage one). After downloading the unlocking firmware from guide above, go to the Administration page then the tab for flashing firmware. Select the firmware file you just saved and let it flash, you'll be prompted to log in, I used user/7756112 , more can be found in the guide, if successful, you'll get a message to that effect. Now firmware version should be 1.7.02 and voice 2.09 LId Next we need to get the adapter to get our configuration file, create one as mentioned in the guide above, meister_sd method, put the file in a folder of your choice, we'll need to use that as our tftp root folder later Now we configure the adapter to talk to the pc, under the setup page of the adapter set "Internet Connection Type" to Static IP and assign the adapter a static IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.88, then set the default gateway and DNS1 to a static IP address that you'll later assign to your PC, make sure it's on the same subnet as the IP address you assigned to the adapter, e.g. 192.168.1.99, save the changes Switch the ethernet cable to the wan port of the adapter, so it's connected directly to the pc, no crossover cable needed in my experience, turn off the adapter until we setup the pc
PC setup:First we need dnsmasq package from synaptic. This package can provide dns, dhcp, read only tftp daemons, outstanding piece of software. during the installation, it will automatically start with it's default settings. we'll shut it down so that we can start it with different command line options:

I've tried it using the Ubuntu 9.10 live CD (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions) and while the adapter can see wireless networks, it can't connect to them. It asks me for my WPA2 key, but after trying to connect for about 30 seconds it asks me for it again. I've read other threads about this issue but they were kind of confusing.
I just need to know whether the adapter will work and if so, how to get it to connect. I'm so sick of Windows and I'd love to switch to Linux, but I won't be able to if I can't get my adapter to work.
Edit: I just noticed the sticky about posting wireless tickets. I'm sorry, I don't have time to post it right now, but I will post all of that information when I get back.
This problem is fixed in the upcoming kernel, 2.6.34. You can either wait until Canonical releases the update, or download, build and install the 2.6.34 kernel manually. The instructions to do so are HERE. It's fairly easy.I'm having a problem on Lucid (amd64) with a Linksys WUSB54Gv4 usb wifi adapter. After some time (varies between ~10 mins to a few hours), the connection is lost. However, in my case I can't connect back. Essentially, I have to try a new kernel or something. I downloaded the kernel 2.6.34 at http://kernel.org/ which is supposed to solve my networking problem. But above thread suggests building my own kernel somehow [URL] and some of its steps are unfortunately not straightforward as copy-and-paste and i'm afraid i can't go on after trying to mimic command prompts a few times.
I tried referring to other sites, like

but their suggested steps aren't exactly the same, or maybe they are really but i'm too dumb to see it.
I think I managed to copy the config file (i hope i chose the right one) and put it to the extracted folder of new kernel I just downloaded, but "Build the linux-image and linux-header .deb files" ?
I have a dual partition with xp pro, and Ubuntu 10.04. It really is amazing, and i plan on erasing everything and starting over new again, this time just ubuntu. with windows, i have a Linksys Compact Wireless G usb Network Adapter with speedbooster ver.2. it works in windows from the CD, but its for windows. ive tried ndiswrapper-utils, ndiswrapper-common and ndisgtk downloads and it opened the program, but sat with the spinning circle for 5 seconds then faded to grey. HOW do i get this to work? i'm in a hurry, as i am leaving for vacation in florida, and i have the only laptop in the house and we bring it every year. If there is something easy (or complicated but with step by step) that i could use to get the driver for my usb network thingy,
