View 1 Repliesthe wireless connection works very well when i start using. but once, after my sister took hold of my computer for a moment. the wireless don't seem to work anymore. i asked her what she did but she says nothing. she may ot may not be lying but that doesn't matters. what matters is i cant reinstall back the wireless network.when i first formatted my notebook to ubuntu 8.0, i followed an online instruction to enable wifi to work. it works perfectly well. so when the problems occured, i tried using the same instruction but it doesn't work anymore.
the wireless network does not appears under connection anymore.
I'm using ubuntu 8.04 . Each time I return form suspend mode, the network icon in the right upper conner show a sign "!", which maybe mean there's limited network connection as in windwos. How can I solve this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe wireless connected hosts do not respond to pings from wired ones or other wireless ones. And all the wired connected hosts respond to pings from any wireless one. The same problem applies also to ssh connections exactly as in the ping issue.
The switch the ADSL modem/router and the Access point are all 3 different machines correctly connected to each other. I do not have a firewall in any of my hosts, all run Slackware 13.1, the wireless ones use "wext" driver and not "ndiswrapper". All wireless hosts login successfully, WPA & DHCP works fine and internet connection goes without a problem. But the fact I can only connect from a wireless host to a wired one is puzzling.
Client which uses an ISP with a Linux machine (Server 1) with two network cards. Eth0 with ip 1.1.1.2 and gateway 1.1.1.1 these ip's is not public ip's and falls unders the isp's internal range, eth1 with the internal ip range. OpenVPN listen on eth0 for incoming connections. We want to connect to Server1 from external networks. Due to different reasons the isp could not get the routing sorted and give us an public ip on his network. We had to setup another bos (Server2) with eth0 2.2.2.5 and gateway 2.2.2.1 which is public ip's and eth1 with ip 3.3.3.5. Server 2 can communicate via the ISP internal network with server 1. I use DNAT to forward all incoming connections on server 2 to server 1 but the problem I have is that server uses its default gateway for the return packages and does not sent the reply back to server 2. My iptables rules looks as follows on server 2.
/usr/sbin/iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp -i eth0 -d 196.25.157.135 --dport 1194 -j DNAT --to 192.168.100.170:1194
/usr/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -p udp -i eth0 -d 192.168.100.170 --dport 1194 -j ACCEPT
I'm trying to find a command to tell nslookup, "I want you to try to resolve hostname X using DNS server Y, and if the lookup fails, just output failure do NOT fail over to some other DNS server as a backup and use it to try to resolve the same hostname."I'm trying to follow the man page instructions for doing this, but it doesn't seem to work. The man page for nslookup on my system (CentOS 5.5) includes the line:
"[no]fail Try the next nameserver if a nameserver responds with SERVFAIL or a referral (nofail) or terminate query (fail) on such a response."But if I try using that option, the output seems to indicate that after the lookup failed on ns1.afraid.org, nslookup failed over to 208.67.220.220 (the first nameserver listed in my resolv.conf -- an OpenDNS nameserver) and used it to resolve the hostname instead.
I am planning to buy a wireless device that supports both monitor mode and packet injection options for my project work..I came across this site while browsing
http://airodump.net/wifi-hardware-monitor-applications/
Is there any advantage of using USB Wifi Adapters over PCMCIA cards??your suggestion/experience in choosing a device in that link or recommend any other device?
I have 3 pc's on home network. All dual boot Windows and Ubuntu. All have Samba installed, plus personal file sharing. When all 3 are booted into linux, all 3 show the public folders on all 3 pc's, but only 2 can access the other pc's folders.
I can't find any difference between the systems to explain why one pc (10.04) cannot mount either of the other two public folders: Unable to mount location. DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
even though their icons are shown in 'network'. The public folder on the troublesome pc can be accessed from the other two (10.04 & 10.10).
So I was trying to remotely access my XP laptop from my Ubuntu laptop. I read up on tsclient and rdesktop and tried both methods. For example, in the terminal, I typed:
rdesktop <host ip>
However, this came back with the following error:
autoselected keyboard map en-us.
ERROR: <host ip>: unable to connect.
After a bit of internet searching, I found the solution to the keyboard problem. I typed:
rdesktop -k en-us <host ip>
This yielded the following error:
ERROR: <host ip>: unable to connect.
No clarification, no explanation. nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?
The other day my 7 year old Belkin-G router packed up and I had to buy a new one. I purchased a ZyGEX wireless-N router that claims to be capable of 300mbs communication on my home network. I have five computers networked and on each of them the network speed is only 5 or 6 mps. The reason I ask this question is while I was only getting 54mps speed with my old router, it was much faster than this one.
I also am asking if anyone knows if the adapter on the laptop or desktop not being compatible with wireless-N could be causing this. Is there anyway to increase network speed in such a situation. I might mention that I am only talking about the speed within my home network, not the broadband download and upload speeds (which is also crap, but not related to this case.)
I've noticed that when Linux boots on different machines or with different versions, the network card is assigned to eth0 or to eth1, when there is only one network card. What is the difference and is there any way to tell which one it will be for any machine or version?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find out what is the difference between wifi0 and ath0 (atheros wifi card) in terms of packet counters shown in proc/net/dev pseudofile. The fact is that wifi0 and ath0 packet counters are different. I've read that wifi0 refers to the physical device and ath0 refers to virtual device over wifi0, so, as far as I know, packets counters in both devices should be the same, isn't it? Another annoying question for me is that ath0 doesn't show any erroneous packets, while wifi0 does.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem which has been plaguing me ever since the upgrade from Karmic to Lucid.
I used to be able to log into any one of the seven TTYs.
CTRL-ALT F1-six all work fine. Problem is if I log into one I can't get back to the GUI.
Immediately after the upgrade, I was told by some people that this was deprecated along with startx and I should use sudo gdm service start instead.
This doesn't work for me If I have to open a terminal when a nasty game freezes and I have to kill it from a terminal.
