Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Not Working On Asus Eee?

Jan 14, 2011

I have been using ubuntu troublefree for some month, but yesterday, suddenly the wireless internet connection stopped working. It happened after i used the turn off wireless network shortcut, now i cant turn it on again (usually this works fine). The situation is now, that when i click on the tray icon showing connection it says, wired network disconnected (it never said this before), then if i click on the wireless shortcut it also says wireless disconnected... But if i click again it doesnt show connections, the disconnected sign just disappears...?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working AND Rfkill Command Not Working

Jul 13, 2011

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.

Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.

I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Not Working?

Apr 21, 2011

I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) x64 quite happily on my Dell e6500 for the past few months until today when I woke the computer up from sleep mode and could not use the wireless. The network-manager applet simply has 'Wireless' greyed out. I tried rebooting, thinking it was an issue with the wireless card not re-powering on properly after sleep, but to no avail. how to begin here?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Not Working/detected?

Mar 21, 2010

I am running Karmic on a Compaq Presario V3000 and this morning my wireless card is not being detected by Ubuntu's NetworkManager. I have no idea what caused this... literally, it was working when I shutdown my laptop last night. When I right-click the NetworkManager icon in the panel it does not show "Enable Wireless" (only "Enable Networking"). When I run ifconfig in terminal it shows my wireless card as being there (UP Broadcast Multicast). One weird thing - on the front of the laptop there is an LED which lights up blue when the card is working (ie normally), but right now it is orange (ie, if you flick the switch on the front of the laptop to toggle the wifi on or off... I have toggled it back and forth but nothing changes!)

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working?

Jul 24, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I was happily connected to internet and surfing some forum, when wireless connection suddenly stopped working.

Now I can't find any access point, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to justify this behaviour.

It already happened a month ago, but I had to format my drive, so I didn't really bother to try to solve the problem.

Anyway. I'm posting here the results of the commands I think I can help with a diagnosis; if something else is needed.

I'm using a different computer to post this thread, so I'm manually writing the output.

Code:
sudo iwconfig wlan0
wlan 0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID: off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working

Apr 18, 2011

I'm running a gateway lapbook w/10.04 LTS and an etheros wirless card. Card has been working fine for almost a year - from cold boot, warm boot, and recovery from standy (shut lid, open, press power button). I was fiddling with setting a static IP for the wirelss card by modifying the interfaces text file. I made some changes, and restored the file to its original contents after some noodling around. Wireless still worked fine after that. Last night I took the laptop out of suspend as usual - lifted lid, pressed power button - but the wireless indicator remained grayed out and I haven't been able to reenable wireless connectivity since. ifconfig shows the wireless card is there, and cabling the e-net port directly to my hub works fine.

Ubuntu Networking :: Asus 1015pem Wireless Not Working?

Oct 17, 2010

i installed ubuntu on my netbook after having a successful install on my asus g51 laptop.

everything works fine except the wireless. for some reason the netbook wont pick up internet via the ethernet connection so i went and got the drivers via synaptic and copied the packages plus the dependencies required (just needed one - dkms). dkms installed fine, but there was an error when i tried to install bcmwl-kernel-source. ubuntu still sees it as installed tho looking in ubuntu software center.

i rebooted just for shits and giggles, cuz it still didnt work. no dice. then i tried to check in that section that shows drivers that arent allowed in a default install as per another thread. its not in there.

my situation doesnt let me connect this netbook via wire and the only way i can get software for it is to download it via my ubuntu connection on my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Worked Before Update But Suddenly Stopped Working

Oct 14, 2010

I have an HP a670y desktop computer using the included wireless antenna (looks like a big Sorry game piece). I am running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 dual booted with Windows Vista x64. I haven't had internet for a while but just got it today and decided to do some updating in both Windows and Ubuntu. It had detected my router and I copied and pasted the WEP key then it asked for my password, but my keyboard wasn't connected so I clicked cancel for the password window and it connected anyway.

I opened the Synaptic package manager and started downloading some updates while I did some browsing on the internet. I had restarted my computer when the updates were done and it asked again for my WEP key. I copied and pasted just as I did before and entered my password and after it tried to connect it asked for my password again. I thought maybe the internet was down so I decided to boot up Windows and it connected right away. I wonder if one of my updates messed something up. Has anyone else had this happen?

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working - FC11?

Sep 23, 2009

A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.

If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
and a long series of these at the end:
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1

[code]....

Note: I previously posted this in "Laptops," but Networking seemed like a better place to do it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Internet Not Working - Asus Apire Laptop

I have a 6 month old Acer (sorry not Asus as per the heading) Aspire laptop. I downloaded Ubuntu and cannot connect via wireless. It works fine via ethernet. Having spent several hour reading this forum, other web pages and the help file, I actually still have not got a clue either as to what the actual problem is or how to begin solving it. Is there a simple answer? If not, I'll go back to windows 7 as Ubuntu seems anything but the promises made.

When I woke it up, there was a black screen with a flashing underscore. I pressed a bunch of buttons but nothing happened. Then suddenly it said something about a wireless hardware error and I did a hard reset by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, wireless was greyed out. There's no hardware switch to enable and disable wireless and the software switch had no effect. I tried echoing into the 'state' of the adapter but it didn't let me. When I tried sudo ifconfig wlan0 up it gave me the following error:

Networking :: Can't Get Wireless Working In Slitaz (Asus Aspire ZG5, Atheros Wifi)?

Sep 17, 2010

So I decided to wipe out Windows and try Slitaz. It's an awesome well featured distro for it's size. One huge problem tho: I can't get wireless to work for the life of me. I actually went as far as to manually load the ath5k module but It just refuses to recognize my wireless router, much less any nearby routers. It simply doesn't see anything when it scans for wireless networks. I have no problem with that in Puppy Lucid. But I'd really like to use Slitaz, just for it's small size and quick bootup. Can anyone PLEASE help me with that?

PS: It happened here before that I had to plea and beg for any response, so PLEASE(!!) don't let me hang like that this time.

Debian Hardware :: Asus Wireless Pce-n15 Not Working

Jul 16, 2015

I just installed a fresh install of firmware-8.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso. During installation the wireless setup utility located my wifi-network and upon entering my WPA password it said it was connected. It didn't work however so I plugged in my ethernet cable and continued the install process hoping it would magically start working after that. No luck.

I went from an Arch Linux install with working wifi, and I dual-boot my box with Windows 7 with working wifi, so I know it's not the card or the distance from the router.

I turn the computer off at night, and the next day when I was going to work on it, I cannot VNC in anymore. One day passed, and now every time I try to use VNC it comes up with "Failed to connect to server" I also set a static IP address on the server too, so I know the address isn't changing every so often.

Ubuntu Networking :: Asus N10 Wireless Usb Adapter On 10.04 LTS

Jul 26, 2011

I recently purchased an Asus n10 wireless usb adapter to use with my media server, running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). After spending several hours today with many of the threads (especially this one about the Asus n13) it seems that I've run out of ideas.

My network is running a hidden (non-broadcast) SSID ("Potato") with wpa2 personal encryption.

Here is the relevant information from lsusb:

Code:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0b05:1786 ASUSTek Computer Inc.

Iwconfig follows. The rest of the values, like link quality & etc, are all zero:

Code:
wlan0 802.11b/g ESSID:"Potato"
Mode: Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate: 0kb/s

And the kicker is that the interface doesn't seem to be available, despite the above reports. ifconfig wlan0 up produces:

Code:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource temporarily unavailable

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Just Stopped Working Suddenly?

Aug 12, 2010

Version: Ubuntu 10.04 Relavant hardware: P5QL Pro built-in ethernet, cable modem with linksys wireless-G router (although problem is with ethernet connection, not wireless)

One minute my ethernet was working, and the next it stopped working. The only thing that I did between it working and not working was install electricsheep from Synaptic and then I shut down the computer. When I restarted a bit later, no ethernet connection shows up.

I checked the cables, made sure they are in tight.

My laptop connects using the same ethernet cable fine. So its not the cable or the router.

I reset the router and the computer at the same time. Still doesn't work.

I don't know where to even start with troubleshooting this sort of problem. Everything to the extent of my computer knowledge seems to be working fine.

Ubuntu Networking :: Installing An Asus N13 USB Wireless Receiver?

May 24, 2011

I trouble someone to provide some assistance on how to properly install this thing and get it to work? I have been all over the web trying all sorts of different "tutorials", but most of them start off okay, and then I get errors in the terminal, or the commands in the tutorials become specific to one person's particular system, and I can go no further. I really want to use Ubuntu 11 on a system that currently is running the reprehensible Windows Vista, and if I could just get this Wireless receiver to work, I would be able to format Vista into oblivion.

So, can someone start at the very beginning, and help me through this? Please keep in mind that I am as green as a leprechaun when it comes to Ubuntu, so please make instructions verbose and geared to a layperson, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. So, the unit is plugged in, and ready to go. What's first?
