Ubuntu Networking :: WWAN Missing In Available Networks List To Connect - Vaio P

May 10, 2010

I've Vaio P39 with Karmic 9.10(2.6.31.21). Everything is ok excluding the WWAN. It just is missing in available networks list to connect (LAN and WiFi are ok).

Searching gives that WWAN adapter doesn't start at cold reboot and it's proposed to use Win7 to switching WWAN on and then restart. But it looks like - must have Win7 only to switching WWAN on...This kind of solution for some Vaio laptops

Code:

Probably bad searching from my side but I've no solution yet. Does it exist at all?

Ubuntu Networking :: Long Wifi Networks Last In The Available List?

Mar 10, 2010

I was on a car trip earlier, but we were stuck in traffic. The stop-go stop-go kind of BS. I pulled out my 9.10 laptop and figured I'd scan for wifi networks and see how good America was at securing their networks. (I work in IT support so it's one of those things I preach to no end yet people rarely listen).

I was using wifi radar, and picked up a truckload of networks every time we'd stop. But something didn't sit well with me. When I click on the network manager icon in the top gnome panel to see what networks were available, it never seemed to refresh.

Example - the first 5 networks I saw were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. We would stop-go more and more and miles later when I'd see more networks in the area show up in wifi radar, yet hit my network manager, I'd STILL see networks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and not 30, 31, 32, 33, etc like I expected.

What kind of refresh time or cache or whatever does network manager have? I just didn't understand why I was seeing the original networks from 15 minutes/miles ago and it never seemed to update.

Ubuntu Networking :: Refresh Available Wireless Networks List In Nm Applet?

Jul 4, 2011

Is there a way I can refresh the list of available wireless networks in the network manager applet? It works correctly when I've just booted but doesn't after I resume after suspending. There's just a message like "wireless networks not available".

I can assure you that the wi-fi is not disabled using a button (my laptop doesn't have such a button), "Fn" key combination or in any other way and the network doesn't go down when I need it.

Ubuntu Networking :: As Firewall - Router With Aircard - Wwan

I have seen tutorials on setting up a secured firewall/router/gateway using ubuntu server as the platform. However, I am wondering if anyone has had experience with using an aircard (wireless broadband card via usb) to set up a router.

Which card do you recommend? Any precautions? Any specific code already written to automatically recognize mobile broadband cards and restart the connection if it goes stale?

Fedora Networking :: WWAN Card Gives Zerocd?

Aug 9, 2010

I have an Option GE0201 UMTS card (also known as KPN MIK 720, Globetrotter Express 7.2 HSUPA, Qualcomm 3g CDMA, etc.).When I install it in Fedora 13, it displays the onboard flash drive as a CD player. After some research I know this CD drive is called ZeroCD and works in Windows by switching a driver mode, so either the device is visible as a CD to install the accompanying software and after that install as a UMTS modem.I have beeen researching options like USB_Modeswitch which should solve this issue, but most documentation I find is aimed at either Ubuntu or at developers (which I am not).

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To New Networks

Jan 24, 2011

I have an hp dm1z and ubuntu 10.10 64bit. After I suspend (close the lid) and wake it up (open the lid) at a different location with a network connection (wired or wireless), my system always fails to connect. I need to reboot and then it sees the network and connects fine. I have tried /etc/inet.d/networking restart, but nothing changes. The only exception to this rule are two networks that have WPA security settings and are stored. I can always switch between those two. I have tried ifconfig eth0 up & down and restart networking. I have also tried to connect manually (dhclient) and no success. None of these work. I am including the output of lshw -C network.

Networking :: Manager Not Listing All Networks / Doesn't Show Them In The List When Left Click The Tray Icon?

Now, my main router's signal still reaches to my office, just not as strong as the borked router in my office. I need to be able to choose which wifi network to connect to without wasting time walking between rooms. I added entries for both in network-manager, but it doesn't show them in the list when I left click the tray icon! How the do I connect to the network I want?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Connect To Unencrypted Wireless Networks

Mar 23, 2010

I have a machine running Xubuntu [2.6.22-14-generic]. I have been trying to get this machine connected to wireless for ages, and I'm having another stab at it. So far I have install ndiswrapper and loaded the driver for a Linksys wireless adapter. The output of 'ndiswrapper -l' reports:

Code:

wusb11v4 : driver installed
devoce (13B1: 000B) present

So as far as my newbie knowledge goes, I believe that step to be completed, correct? When I turn on the machine is type in

Code:

sudo sh
modprobe ndiswrapper

to get the card running to where it will appear in the iwconfig dialog. The commands 'iwlist wlan0 scan' will list all the wireless networks around me, but I have been un-able to connect to any network, even unencrypted ones. I have tried to connect both through Wicd and command-line to no avail. For command-line I have used:

Code:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo dhclient -r wlan0
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

[code]....

With the final 'dhclient wlan0' commands, the following is returned:

Code:

There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.pid with pid 134519120
Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.0.5

[code].....

I have attempted to go ahead a step further and connect to an encrypted wireless network, however, I receive the same message, as well as another error message upon trying to enter the key, with the following code:

Code:

iwconfig wlan0 key s:"thekey"

Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

Ubuntu Networking :: Detect Wireless Networks But Cannot Connect

Aug 1, 2010

I have a WLAN Driver Azure Wave AW-NU222 Wireless LAN Card in my Medion computer.

After installing Ubuntu it seems to detect the wireless networks in my area. However, when I try to connect to my network, it tries for several minutes and then times out with no error message. I have set up the credentials and also tried removing the encryption (WPA-PSK) from the network itself, but it still doesn't connect.

Connect via an Ethernet cable is fine, and I know that the network is good because I can connect via my Windows Laptop and various other wireless devices.

I suspect it's due to drivers, but I'm having trouble downloading a driver which I can try and install using Ndiswrapper. The Medion website just a windows executable when I try and download the driver specific to my machine when I really need the .inf file.

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 - New Wireless USB - Finds Networks, Can't Connect?

May 20, 2011

So I was the one who couldn't get their ethernet port to function properly. Most likely, this was the result of bad hardware since none of the community's suggestions for software fixes did anything. I believe this is probably true.Indeed, when I bought a cheap $10 wireless USB dongle, it immediately worked better than all the previous things. It detected networks, displayed network strength and even allowed me to attempt login.

The only problem now seems to be that it cannot login. I've rechecked the password countless times, but it just shows the 'connecting to wireless' animation for a minute or two and then poops out and says, 'disconnected'.I assume if everything is getting me this far, the driver is not the problem with the device. Is this a safe assumption?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Tries To Connect To Out-of-range Networks

Jul 2, 2010

I have a problem with network manager. I use Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Latitude D530. I used to have the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 before I upgraded. I typically connect to two wireless networks: HOME and WORK. Both networks are set to automatic connection mode. I am at work, I connect to the network WORK. At the end of the day, I just close the lid and go home. At home, I open the lid and have the following problem: network manager still displays the network WORK whereas it is clearly out-of-range and it automatically tries to connect to it. It does so until network manager asks if the password is correct.

If I want to connect to HOME, I have to tell network manager to do so. Then, I receive a notification that I am disconnected to WORK. Next morning, I go to work, and I have the same problem, network manager tries to automatically connect to HOME. What I would expect from network manager: when I am at home, NM automatically connects to HOME and does not display WORK, when I am at work, NM automatically connects to WORK and does not display HOME.
