Ubuntu Networking :: TORK: TOR Stopped Talking To Us?

I'm using Ubuntu Hardy x64 and when pressing "Play" in TORK, I get the following Message:
*TOR Stopped Talking To Us!!*Message: Did Something Happen To Me?
*This Means: Try Starting TORK Again. TOR Starts up in the background. and I have also tried killing TOR and then restarting it with Vidalia and verifying that TOR is running. I've also tried using the Wizard to configure TORK to no avail. It also does'nt seem to be able to write to the "torrc" file. Also, when I select Tools>Browse TOR Network Status, I get the following message:
*Could not launch the browser:*Could not find service "kfmclient." I suppose this could mean that I need to install some elements of KDE, but I have several KDE applications running on my installation, such as Amarok, with no complications.
I have installed MM 10.10 on a desktop (also running XP home) and a laptop (vista home prem). Both have good access wirelessly to www using an orange livebox, via linux and windows. But I can't get them to talk to each other for file sharing etc. I'm pretty sure there's a simple solution but, as a novice to linux, it's beyond me at the moment.
I have laptops with intel 4965/AGN wireless hardware and ubuntu jaunty. My wireless access point, router, gateway is a D-Link DIR-655. The D-Link is directly connected to my cable modem. The connection does not drop, but They suddenly quit talking with each other. After a brief time lapse, they start talking again without intervention on my part. When I say "stop talking" this is behavior where a browser will return "page or server not found" errors or "DNS timeout". Has anyone seen this sort of network behavior and have some idea about corrective actions?
My attempts to get some help from D-Link have not been successful. Since there are not hundreds of folks reporting troubles, they don't [want to?] understand one poor souls problems.I've tried to ask about this several times and several places.
Mm sorry for the silly questions but I dont seem to be able to get my server to listen to my router or the other way around. when i httpd i get the error (99)Cannot assign requested address: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.1.1:8080I am using a Billion 5200G router I have also been trying all night with my BELKIN router but no success.
1) I have a nameserver I set up at Enom days ago the site has been registered for about 9 months now ns1.startwebhostingnow.com
2) When I try to access ns1.startwebhostingnow.com I get through to my routers administartion area so the nameserver seems to direct to the right place.
3) I have a PPoE LLC connection from my ISP with one static IP but like i said the nameserver seems to direct to my router but no further.
4) I have set up the server in the System/Administration/server settings/http area servername ns1.startweb hostingnow.com with an ip of 192.168.1.1 on port 8080
5) In the NAT router area I have DMZ set as 192.168.1.53 which should be my servers ip address
6) In the NAT Virtual Server I have: RuleApplicationProtocolStart PortEnd Port Local IP Address1 HTTP_Server TCP 8080 8080 192.168.1.53
i have slackware 12.2 on a toshiba laptop and i cannot play flash movies on videos and similar stuff.
it also complains sometimes that i do not have java. but i do have java on my system. i think slackware comes with java included afaik. is there some sort of process or a tutorial i must read to get these things all set up? also, do i still have to install some kind of flash application?
I am one of the many people who are having many problems getting the Canon ip1700 pixma printer to work with Linux. I think that it can be done. I've followed every step that I could on this page: [URL] Everything goes fine until I enter the username and password on CUPS, using my "root" and my root password. I get this annoying google chrome thing, "aw, snap, this page can't load..." I really need to use my printer.
I picked up two free Sunfires a couple of days ago (Sunfire V210 and Sunfire V240). Obviously, these are RISC machines, so no video, mouse, or keyboard ports. The only way of connecting to them that I know of is through the ALOM interface. I was hoping to use the minicom program that's on my Linux (Slackware 13.1) box to do this. I connected an RJ-45 straight through cable to the serial management port on the Sunfire V240, connected the other end to a Sun 530-3100-01 RJ45 to DB9 adapter, and then plugged the female end of the adapter into the serial port on the Linux box. I set the minicom port settings to the following:
A - Serial Device: /dev/ttyS0 B - Lockfile Location: /var/lock C - Callin Program: D - Callout Program: E - Bps/Par/Bits: 9600 8N1 F - Hardware Flow Control: Yes G - Software Flow Control: No
...and relaunched minicom hoping that it would connect. It does not. It just sits there with a blinking cursor and an "Offline" status.I also attempted to use cu to connect to the Sunfire using the following:# cu -l /dev/ttyS0 -s 9600.I just get the "Connected" message. No prompt, no anything. It just sits there. Same situation on the Sunfire V210.
Does anyone notice a degradation in sound quality with skype and pulseaudio? It seems that when I use pulseaudio there are bugs in the sound quality in skype. I also notice a lag when talking to someone with the VoIP feature.
I suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:
1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.
2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.
3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.
4. Nothing happens.
I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.
It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.
I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.
This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.
I want to start recording when someone starts talking, and stop recording when it becomes silent. I guess if there is stream audio processing tool like ImageMagick, so I can strip away blank sections like this:
Wired and wireless networking have been working flawlessly for years on my HP Compaq 6710b laptop. Several weeks ago, after an automatic update via the update manager, my wired network stopped working. I did not notice it directly, since my wireless connection took it over. I only noticed it when I had to work in an office where I didn't know the wireless password.Since then, I have been trying several things and searched several forums. It is hard to find any troubleshooting information about wired networking, as most of the problems seem to occur with wireless.
I did verify that there is no hardware problem. My laptop is dual boot and when I boot the other operating system, the wired network works without problems (as does the wireless.)My Ubuntu version is Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. My kernel version is 2.6.32-25-generic i686. I hope anybody can help me getting my wired network working again.
I have a more or less annual attempt to get Ubuntu working, but it always fails on networking. Usually I have tried on old machines built of left over bits, but this time I tried version 11.04 on a fairly modern Acer Aspire 7520 laptop. I used a wired connection during setup and then set up the wireless. All was fine and easy, and I actually imagined that I might finally escape from Microsoft. Then a week later the networking stopped working on both wired and wireless. My windows machines and android phone connect wirelessly. My Windows desktop connects using the same ethernet cable. I tried re-installing Ubuntu from the original disk, but now I can't even get a wired connection during setup, so it seems to be something Ubuntu has done to the hardware settings (that is a surmise).

1.Less than 1% use Linux and 10% use Mac Os X it is not that they are so much better but market share .The Malware makers are going windows where the market shares are.
2.Windows have more security but most people don't use it.
3.Mac OS X security is not that good , windows is better.
4.windows it has more gradual permission level than a ON and OFF like Linux or Mac OS X
I successfully set-up an FTP server, that worked great and perfectly, but after restarting the computer, it has stopped working.None of my router's settings have changed. I restarted the vsftpd process.
pulled the wireless USB adapter out of the back of my laptop when I was using it. I plugged it back in and it can see my wireless network, but it can't connect. Everytime it tries, it just shows the connecting icon on the top bar for a few minutes and then says that the network has been disconnected.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB adaptor, but nothing I've done seems able to fix the issue. Anyone know how to fix this?
I have had ubuntu about a month now and everything has worked great up until now, I was surfing the web and all the sudden I lost connection. I tried to connect to the signal but got nothing so I did a reboot. After the reboot my wireless signal didn't show up. i right clicked the connection icon on the top taskbar and the enable wireless is blacked out to where i cant click it.
I decided to give 10.04 a shot, and upon first boot, I was able to setup and use my Rogers Rocket mobile broadband stick. When I rebooted, I found that it was in the network settings, but I was unable to connect, nor did it show up as an option in the drop-menu. I played with the terminal trying to see if anything was wrong, but everything seems normal, which is to say I don't even know what I'm looking for in regards to this type of connection.
I obviously know now that it works, I just don't know what made it stopped for the time being. I'm thinking of doing a fresh install over the current partition, and trying to work the issue from there.
i installed and ran System Profiler & Benchmark ran a test. then i rebooted and turned off ACPI/PowerNow. at this point i realized my network card had gone down so i went back an turned the ACPI on. nothing changed.
I have a Thinkpad T400 notebook that dual boots windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.04. My wireless has worked both in windows and ubuntu for the past several months. However 2 days ago, the wireless in ubuntu stopped working. I think this may be a result of trying to set up a static eth0 connection between my laptop and an embedded board, but I dont see how messing with eth0 would stop the wlan from working.
Symptoms: When I left click on the network connections icon in the tray, all it lists under "Wireless networks" is "device not ready". Needless to say, there are no networks available to connect to. Also the wireless is working fine under windows.
Last night I was trying to get my printer working, and when I rebooted, I lost networking and sound.I am currently booting on a live CD, and sound and networking are fine-- so it can't be a hardware issue (obviously). I must have inadvertently broken something, but I can't figure it out.I have tried restarting networking, but it doesn't respond-- it says stop/waiting or something like that.I can't access the sound preferences-- it says waiting for sound to respond (or something like that).
When I reboot, sometimes I see a terminal window with the same line scrolling very, very quickly-- something about waiting for USB. Additionally, the system is very slow to respond-- clicking a menu item can take a long time for it to appear, etc.What could have occurred, and how might I troubleshoot it?
Just recently the wireless stopped working on Ubuntu 10.04. The machine is AcerOne AOA-150. I did notice recently the wireless would stop working, and I would need to either 1) reboot 2) switch the wireless off by moving the switch from left to right in front of the laptop.
However, this time nothing is working. I've provided some detail and if more information is needed, let me know.
I'm running Lucid 10.04 on a Dell Studio 15. I first noticed it today, but it could have been happening for a couple of days. I get no IP address for my wired connection when running ifconfig. Wireless is connecting perfectly. Normally when I start up both wired and wireless connect and get a local IP address like 192.168.1.11*. Additionally, the router has a slowly blinking light corresponding to this connection, which is different from other good connections like my printer which has a solid light on. Here is output from running route -n:

Been searching for hours and looked at several other threads but still can't figure this out. We have 4 folders being shared from a Ubuntu 10.4.2 LTS Server using Samba. A couple days ago two computers in the office lost access to these shares. The other computers in the office are fine. So far as I know nothing has changed on the server. I can putty into the server still but I can't map a drive or open a window through run (\server_nameetc).
I've also tried disabled iptables on the server and windows firewall on the the windows xp machines. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong? Like I said, so far as I know there have been no changes to the server whatsoever. One day it was working and the next it just stops.
I've started to set up a server at my house, where I eventually want to run it headless, and I can just VNC in from my other Desktop. I installed Ubuntu 10.10, setup remote desktop on the server, and from there was able to do any work remotely. That was nice. I turn the computer off at night, and the next day when I was going to work on it, I cannot VNC in anymore. One day passed, and now every time I try to use VNC it comes up with "Failed to connect to server" I also set a static IP address on the server too, so I know the address isn't changing every so often.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.10.After I updated to 9.10, my wireless connection stoppped working. I can access the network but I get no response or what so ever in my browser.Downloading language support or any software doesn't work either.Haven't changed anything to my settings and checked the router. Router works just fine.
After upgrading to the latest Ubuntu, my wireless card stopped working. I keep on pressing the button but the little orange light wont come on...I have an aspire 5517 with "Atheros Communications Inc. I updated to 10.04 recently and everyhting worked fine. Yesterday my wireless stopped working. Now I just get "Networking disabled" when I mouse over the greyed out wireless icon. Everything still works fine when I boot windows.
