Ubuntu Networking :: Specific E-mail Not Being Sent?

send out lots of e-mails, except this specific one that I'm trying to send to my Member of Parliament. My ISP has blown me off and tells me it's a problem of a firewall or antivirus program on my computer (I also can't rule out my router, but I seriously doubt it has that level of sophistication).en I try to send, after about a minute I get "4.4.2 Timeout while waiting for command" which is why my ISP says this is my problem. I've looked in /var/log/messages and it doesn't give any indication that this system is blocking the e-mail. I don't think it's a firewall but how can I tell? Or what else can I try?

I have installed the package mailutils by following command:
sudo apt-get install mailutils
Now I want to send mail using the following format:
$mail <username>@gmail.com
I am doing the normal procedures but the mail is not sent.

I m using sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5 along with MailScanner-4.79.11-1
i want to set a rule so that user1@mydomain.com can send only to anotherdomain.com domain. sending mail to any other domain will be rejected. can it be done by sendmail or MailScanner ??

I wish to intercept/forward emails that is sent to one user on multi user mail server.I only want email from one specific address or group,to be redirected and it will be redirected to another user on same server.The email should not arrive in original users inbox.".forward" file can not give me such solution,because ".forward" file will forward all mails to another specific mail id,which i don't want. I want only specific users mails onto another local user.Is this possible in sendmail?Anybody have clear idea of "virtusetable" & "aliases" file?

1.select sendmail option as mail server(in joomla).
2.install and configure sendmail in server (which ubuntu installed on it )
**if i use my website locally mail server works fine i can send message and receive , but when i use web site from Internet mail server seems not working at all

my system I want user1 and only user1 to be able to mount and unmount a specific partition, this partition contains backups and is usually mounted read only, needs to be temporarily mounted read/write by user1 while doing the backup.user1 is an unprivileged user. I've read that the user option will let any user mount the file-system (and only that user can then subsequently unmount it) and that the users option allows any user to mount or unmount the file-system.I also found this in mount's man pageQuote:The owner option is similar to the user option, with the restriction that the user must be the owner of the special file. This may be useful e.g. for /dev/fd if a login script makes the console user owner of this device. I need to search a bunch of files in a specific folder for a specific number and add all the numbers together to a total sum. I use Rsync everyday, everytime I run rsync i get a logfile (rsync output) witch contains the textstring "Total bytes sent: xxxxxx".
The "xxxxx" can vary in lenght. I need to extract the "xxxxxx" from each file and add the numbers together to a total size over a week or a month. Is this possible? And I wish to only use bash. One way of doing stuff at a time my friends .

I'm trying to configure our mail server to block email from a specific sender reaching a specific recipient. In other words, if one of our employees is getting harassed by a 'stalker', how would one go about blocking, at the MTA (Sendmail) level, a specific sender email address from reaching a particular users inbox? We do not want to capture the email - simply block it before it consumes server resources.The Sendmail server (MTA) is a front end to our Exchange server so no user accounts exist on the Linux server. We simply use it as a SPAM and Virus scanner then forward clean email to the Exchange server.

my laptop connects to two specified networks (home, office). When i'm in my office, i don't need to run OpenVPN and automount disc (entered in fstab) from my homeserver. But when i'm at home, i need OpenVPN running and mount some network drives. How can i define, what to run on which network? Can you recommend me something?

Using Ubuntu Server maverick here - after altering /etc/network/interfaces to use a static ip and checking /etc/resolv.conf (no alteration needed) no network services were working at all. Here are the contents of interfaces:

I was fairly certain that this was verbatim from my previous server which is no longer attached to the network. After hours of fooling around with no success I changed the address to 192.168.1.99 and it worked perfectly. So my question is: why? My old server used 100. Could the router refuse to give a new server the same address or something like that since that address had been taken in the past?

I've being following this guide, which is great, and currently my samba.conf looks like this:

As you can (maybe) see, my entire /home folder is shared. For various reasons, I'd prefer it if only say my music and videos were shared, how do I do that? I've looked around the web and seen some other people's samba.conf files but mine looks totally different and I don't want to lose the functionality I have by messing around with it.

I've got a 10.04 machine with two ethernet interfaces. I have two separate outside internet connections. This machine is connected to both interfaces. But it DOES NOT route between them. It's just a host on both subnets. Again, no routing is to go through this host. I'd like to force traffic originating on each ethernet port out to that network's internet connection.
Here's the desired setup:
eth0 192.168.12.37/24 gw 192.168.12.1
eth1 192.168.1.37/24 gw 192.168.1.1
I'd like traffic on the 192.168.1.37 address to go out through the 192.168.1.1 gateway. I have a program bound to that address and need it's traffic to go out ONLY through the 192.168.1.1 gateway. Any other traffic on the machine should go out the 192.168.12.1 gateway.
The logic is: source IP is 192.168.1.37, dest IP is any then go out only through 192.168.1.1 source IP is 192.168.12.37, dest IP is any then go out through 192.168.12.1 first or 192.168.1.1 next. The point is source on the .1.37 address must always go out the .1.1 gateway and NEVER through .12.1. Whereas traffic on the .12.37 address should try going out the .12.1 gateway first but can go out the .1.1 gateway if the .12.1 connection is down. I could live with this failover option. I could accept that traffic on the .12.37 address was likewise limited to its own gateway.

Most of the time my wireless works very well, connecting lightning-fast on boot with AC power. However here are two problems that I have noticed to-date: 1. Wireless will not connect if I boot on battery power. It won't connect even if I plug in the AC cable and do a reboot. Only solution is to reset the router (unplug power cable, wait, plug power cable). 2. Wireless will not connect after a Suspend, whether battery power or AC. Again, only solution is to reset the router. Another computer, running Windows XP, do not have connection problems (yes, wireless). It is quite strange, maybe some power management settings are interfering with networking? I have both laptop-mode-tools and pm-utils (re-rolled) installed.

11.04 64 bit I just picked up a new high-gain usb wireless adapter that I would like to use for a while in place of the built in wireless adapter in my desktop. It is detected and works just fine. My question is this: Is there any way I can disable just the built in adapter and leave the new one active (or visa versa?) I don't want to remove the built-in one as there will be occasions that I will want to use both.

When I run OpenVPN server - tap0 adapter, it breakes Teredo(Miredo) IPv6 address down. I dont need IPv6 on OpenVPN, so is there any way to disable IPv6 on tap0 completely?

As part of my job, I have to configure a lot of network devices that are configured through web pages. This generally means plugging in to them via ethernet, going to their default IP address and reconfiguring them. I set my IP address using ifconfig, which is much faster than plugging numbers in to networkmanager's GUI. The problem is, NetworkManager seems to take the interface down at random.I could disable NetworkManager but then I don't have a wireless connection.Is there a way to tell NetworkManager to temporarily ignore what is happening on a specific interface or should I just ditch NM altogether when doing this kind of work and use wpa_supplicant to get on my wireless?My co-worker with the Windows machine is looking over my shoulder and chuckling

I want to be able to tell processes/programs somehow to use a specific nic. I have a laptop (used as dekstop) and want to make pidgin use my wireless. I have a gigabit wired connection and a wireless connection. I want to force pidgin to use the wireless connection. But more specifically, I just want to block pidgin from using eth0... how to go about that? I can't find anything that will block applications... I could block outside servers from communicating with eth0, but I don't want to do that.

Something strange with my firewall i used firestarter I dont know why i cannot ping outside on a specific IP address here is my setup. I have IP from ISP
119.92.56.77 - eth0
192.168.50.1 - eth1
with DHCP features from 192.168.50.1 - 254. my problem is i cannot ping this specific IP address which is 119.93.232.234 if you can try there and pinging is ok but here cannot because that IP address (119.93.232.234) they used that to connect to our openvpn which is the IP is 119.92.56.78 <---- this system linux(centos) or IP has no firewall enabled. meaning i separeted this connection. which my setup is like this for OPenVPN
