I have a set up with a computer that has two network cards and is connected to two networks. Both networks connect to the internet via separate routers that have DHCP enabled. I can set one of the routers up to do port forwarding to the computer without any complications but if I want to do the same on the other router the port forwarding from it doesn't work and I can't reach the system.
I know for a fact that the services are accessible from both networks and both routers can forward ports to other computers in their network. The networks are 10.10.0.1/24 and 172.22.0.1/24. I've tried turning off iptables but that didn't change anything.
Is there any kind of setting that could prevent the interface on the computer to reject traffic using NAT or something?
If I disable the interface on the working network (ifdown eth1) then suddenly eth0 on the other networks starts accepting requests sent to it via the router that does the port forwarding. I do however want to emphasize that services work just fine as long as the requests originate from either of the networks they are on.

Notice the 2 in address. Seems to me it doesn't like the network and wants it to be 172.16.0.0, but I am adding to a network already configured this way.
I've just set up a PC with CentOS 5.3 runing on near identical hardware to an existing 5.2 machine. Motherboard is Asus M2A-VM which I discover by chance generally works very well with CentOS. Ethernet is on board Nvidia.The older machine just did run gigabit speed without any intervention at all, rather to my surprise. The newer machine insists on running at 100 Mbit which is annoying as it is connected to a NAS through a gigabit dumb switch.
The obvious difference between the two is that ethtool on the older machine says that supported ports are TP, and so the port is TP. Whereas the newer machine says that supported ports are TP or MII and insists on running MII. I cannot change this with ethtool -s eth0 port tp. Perhaps not too surprisingly, mii-tool says that the supported speeds range up to 100 Mbit.
I've got a problem on my Debian, I've tried installing all the correct alsa packages and all packages that have the word sound or audio description. The problem that is happening here is that when I go into settings and click on sound in Gnome, it appears to have a dummy output and in fact, a few weeks ago, the sound was working properly. Now, I believe, that after an update, the sound card was not recognized. Used the lspci command in root mode, and showed my sound card which is onboard. I'll leave the model below it, because I've tried everything and could not solve anything.

I just installed and Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wireless card HP dv2945se. I can get a wired connection. I can't figure out what kind of card I have (did the terminal command line, have no idea how to read it) or how to install a driver for this OS (HP's site just lists drivers for Windows). How to get the wireless card recognized?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to proselytize and have installed Lucid on my receptionist's Gateway M500 with an Orinoco PCI Mini wireless card.
The card works in XP, but when I boot into Linux, the network card indicator light doesn't turn on, and lspci gives me this:
No wireless card
Pressing the on-off wireless button does nothing.
What can I do to turn on the modem so that Lucid sees it?
i just thought the last few days about trying Ubuntu. so i did. i got a nice and fresh copy of Ubuntu Desktop version and installed it, everything worked great except my wireless usb 2.0 card. the only internet connection i have under windows is Wifi and i hoped that my dongle will be recognized by Ubuntu automatically...(naturally, it wasn't the case.)
so my adapter looks exactly like this one here, except for the color, it's white and it has my WISP's name written on it (i got it from them, along with a cd that offers win xp/98/me drivers...)
so even everest sees it's atheros and it's the Atheros AR5523 chipset.
i also have windows 7 64bit drivers if they help...
anyway, i can't get it to work and cannot access the internet any other way when on Ubuntu, so i have to use an already-saved driver..
I have lucid installed on my hp laptop without any problems, and I went to install it on another hp but the I can't connect to any wireless network. I tried to follow this thread's advice [URL] . Because it's pretty much the same problem except I think the wireless card is from a different Intel family but it didn't work.
Basically wireless networks won't show up, in fact the network icon only has "wired" as a menu option.

I just installed 10.04 on my EeePC 1000HE, and wireless isn't working. My card isn't listed when I ifconfig. I've messed around with installing the Windows drivers, but nothing has worked so far.

I have discovered the world of freewares not long ago and it surprised me! To go a bit further, I have installed Lubuntu 10.4 LTS on an old laptop: HP Pavilion zv5326 with 256 Mo RAM.
Everything works fine except the wifi.

I'm trying to create EoIP interface on ubuntu so i can create a simple tunnel to my mikrotik router. Is there anyone know how or even done that? If EoIP is not possible, is there any other simple way?
I had already read and thought about doing it with OpenVPN, but when I read the community documentation for OpenVPN on ubuntu 10.10, I fear it won't connect the tunnel to mikrotik OpenVPN server, since OpenVPN on ubuntu uses 2 certificate and 2 key files(as i read on the docs), but mikrotik configuration, i can see only 1 certificate can be applied on. This confuses me and make me decide to use EoIP(but i can't find any tutorial/docs about it). I don't actually need the encryption and security, i just need to create a tunnel for ubuntu and mikrotik.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my new Sony Vaio series S but it does not recognize my wireless card (I think). The button is on, but the light does not turn on, and it does not detect the wireless card. The wireless card, an Intel Centrino Advanced -n 6205, does work in ubuntu and when I run the command: lshw -C network, it appears UNCLAIMED, that I think it means the drivers are not in the Ubuntu libraries. I just installed Ubuntu 11.04. The drive was formatted when I installed so it's 100% Ubuntu. The only major problem I have encountered is that Ubuntu will not recognize my SD cards. I really need to access these cards, all my film footage is on there. I think the internal SD card reader (If such a thing exists) would have been deleted during the installation process. I am a greenthumb to Ubuntu and have never used it before so I am rather stuck...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem to configure my wifi card, a dwa-110 from D-Link, it is not recognized when I launch System / network device control (only ethernet connections appear), and it is the same thing in Administration / network / network configuration. But if I launch administration / hardware / system devices, the last line is "Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN"... When I try to add in the window "network configuration" (from above) some new stuff, I specifying the kind of hardware (wireless) and when I have to enter the name of the card I don't see my card. On other OSes, I used ndiswrapper, but I wasn't able to install it on CentOS (dependencies required and it's hard with only a USB key to install the stuff...) How to see if the card is recognized, if I have to use ndiswrapper and so on. I have an internal PCI network card also, maybe it is this card which is recognized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working with 10.10 (Maverick) on an older Compaq laptop. Wireless card is a Cisco Aironet 350. This card is listed as supported and drivers included in the server distro.
During the Network configuration portion of the install, I selected eth1 (wireless); the card came active and a valid network connection was established.
However, after the full server installation the interface (eth1) is not seen.
What's confusing is that modprobe -l shows the drivers as present:
kernel/drivers/net/wireless/airo.ko
kernel/drivers/net/wireless/airo_cs.ko
Insertion and removal of the card is noted in /var/log/messages:
pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket1 pccard: card ejected from slot 1
pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket1 pccard: card inserted into slot 1
(I'd be happy to supply more info, but currently set up with Fluxbox and I'll be darned if I can get copy from the xterm to paste into Firefox...)

I have an ubuntu server that I am using as a gateway router. I have 2 nics in the machine and am using iptables to run the NAT.I now have a need to provide several machines on the inside of the network with their own public IP. So I created a virtual interface on the the WAN card and attempted a 1:1 nat across it, but it's not working. The virtual interface isn't even responding to pings. If I ping the ip of the virtual interface from the outside, it doesn't work. If I run a tcpdump on the interface, I can see ICMP request packets but no replies. Watching the same dump while pinging the non-virtual interface IP results in both request and reply packets. What's stranger the inbound ICMP request packets on the virtual interface seem to be hit or miss. Sometimes when I ping it, I can see the request packets hitting the interface, sometimes I get nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an MSI MB with AMD dual processor. Last night it froze and since it was late I shut it down. This morning I got the same message when I tried to boot. I moved the keyboard to a similar computer, which I am using at the moment. The keyboard still isn't recognized on its home computer. I had this problem once before and was afraid I would need a new MB but it was resolved much more simply than that. I just can't remember how. I am running Kubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Yet the configuration works as though they belong to the interface.Shouldn't we have it just one way and stick with it ... and make everything work that way?
If IP addresses truly belong to the system, then a command to configure an IP address should not need (and not even accept) the name of an interface. The only exceptions would be link-local addresses (which by their nature do suggest being interface specific ... and they should be autoconfigured by the kernel, anyway). Interfaces would only need to be brought up or down.
Have a cheaponasto card which refuses to play ball with the kernel. I have tried several card types with no luck.
I is just a video capture with no TV tuner. v4l-conf complains there is no framebuffer address and therefore (I think) xawtv will not start.

my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
So I've recently installed Kubuntu 10.04, and after the first and second runs, the system refuses to connect to the network/internet. I'm not sure why this is, or how to fix it. It shows up in ifconfig, but other than that I'm at a loss. The Knetworkmanager applet says "Disabled" when I hover over it, and no connection can be made to the internet (apt, Firefox). I'm running x86, with a Biostar T5XE mainboard (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D network chipset). The logs don't seem to indicate a problem, though I could be wrong. The connection is known good: it connected before, but it won't now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a new to linux. I recently purchased a used dell d820. It has 2 gigabites of ram, and has centrino duo. The hard drive is 80 gigabites. I used boot and nuke to erase windows xp, in order to install linux. (I was quite unhappy with the screen, codec, and other problems I was having with windows.)
However, each time I try to install Fedora, or any other version of linux to the hard drive, the computer shuts down ENTIRELY.
Is there a way to fix this? I seems like my machine just doesn't like linux?
