Pinging out from my netbook (over wifi, to any host) gets ~0% packet loss. Pinging into it (from any host) gets about 50% packet loss.
The router is a Dlink-DIR615 (rev d, running DD-WRT v24-sp2) but all other hosts on it ping eachother fine. I've tried changing routing, disabling IPv6, using older kernels and using wicd, all with no luck. The wireless connections is at 100% most of the time. This could be a new problem with Maverick, but I may not have noticed it before. I believe this is causing web browsing to be really slow and causing SSH timeouts.
I haven't tried madwifi drivers or nsidwrapper yet.
Edit: just booted into Windows and it has the same problem. Could it be a hardware issue? Also tried with a static IP, with no change.
Strangely, a normal ping gets 50% packet loss, but ping -A gets < 1% loss.
Edit 2: no packet loss at all on eth0.

I am running Lucid Lynx, Desktop Edition on an asus eee 1005ha netbook. i've noticed a strange issue. there are two accounts i've setup, one admin and one normal user. when i click on logout and login as admin and then boot into the admin desktop and then click on logout again, i get a blank screen and nothing happens. i have to remove the battery and restart the system to get it running again.
I can't get my Asus Eeepc 1005HA to boot from usb so as to re install Ubuntu. I did it right once - obviously - and now have a malfunctioning dual boot partition. My memory is of having to hit a function key repeatedly once I'd changed the BIOS and restarted the computer. Asus forums all repeatedly give me the same advice - F2 for BIOS, F10 to save settings then it should boot up, but --- nothing --- works.
So. Any additional or creative advice? The computer doesn't have a CD drive. My thumb drive is a Delkin 4gig... are there thumb drives known to work for this operation?
i`m tryin` to config my kismet conf file cuz i get this message FATAL: Please configure at least one packet source. Kismet will not function if no packet sources are defined in kismet.conf or on the command line i`ve googled few tutorials but cannot figure out what i should type there , i use Atheros 9285 , my wifi interface is wlan0 as u can see :
[Code]...
i know it should look like this : source=iwl3945,eth1,eth1 or source=madwifi_ag,wifi0,madwifi i`ve tried and changed for with my ath , wlan0 , but it still wont work, what i should type in those three lines after source= and what does it mean each .and if you could tell me how to determine what to type there or where does it say what to put there.
I am doing a small research using Kismet. I need help configuring Kismet with my Asus A52J. The Wireless card in my laptop is AR5B95. When I start Kismet I get the following error
Is there anyway I could use KISMET without getting disconnected from a network. I mean now whenever I start kismet, I lose my network connectivity. I dont want that. is there any possible workaround for this?
I'm trying to get Kismet up and running with Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm using an Atheros AR928X, but I don't know what to put in the etc/kismet/kismet.conf file under the line source=
Do I need to install madwifi drivers, or are the drivers that come with Ubuntu sufficient enough? I've been reading other forums and on Google that I should put source=madwifi_g,ath0,madwifi but my device is not ath0, it's wlan0 as shown with the lspci command.
Launching kismet_server: //usr/bin/kismet_server Suid priv-dropping disabled. This may not be secure. No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled. Non-RFMon VAPs will be destroyed on multi-vap interfaces (ie, madwifi-ng) Enabling channel hopping.

In some other forum on UbuntuForums someone said to make some changes under SYSTEM>>ADMINISTRATION>>HARDWARE DRIVERS, but I don't have HARDWARE DRIVERS under that submenu. I don't see an option for it anywhere in my version of Ubuntu (Maverick 10.10).
Im trying to get installed on my Asus 1005HA(B.Ive tried
Unetbootin 11.1 - HTTP Installation Network method doesn't work with this Unetbootin Gnome ISO of 11.2 - Can't remember exact error, but it doesn't work. Unetbootin Network unetbootin - Same as above Gnome 11.2 + Network with Official USB Installation Guide using DD and if+sync command
So, I have basicly tried everything, but all have failed. So, how can I get 11.2 on my netbook/comp.
P.S.Don't have usb dvd reader, thats why I need usb methods.
I have heard that Kismet sees more wireless networks than the GUI tools. My question is how do I setup Kismet to work. Where do I specify my wireless card?
I put together a step-by-step guide of how I installed openSUSE 11.1 on my ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA Netbook. I planned on going back and re-installing using my own guide to check for mistakes, etc. but I never seem to get around to it, so I'll just post what I have and let you guys comment if you run into issues. Side notes: This guide assumes you want to wipe out Windows XP and run only openSUSE. Sorry, I'm a Gates hater.
I still haven't figured out how to configure the function keys support for volume controls and wireless. I'm hoping the "eeepc kernel module" mentioned by malcolmlewis here: Suse on my Asus 1005HA - openSUSE Forums will do the trick.
Ihad changed wifi channel using kismet on ubuntu . After that the wifi is not working properly, how to revert the changes ? before changing the channel no wifi was working properly.
I have hesitated posting this because there are a number of threads on the Asus USB N-13.First let me point out that I am using this device. It worked out of the box in Ubuntu 10.10 after several reinstalls using the native Ubuntu driver. However my speed is stuck at 54Mb/s.When tested on a Win7 machine, the connection speed is much closer to 300Mb/s.In wading through the other threads, I am unable to find anyone who has this adaptor running at N speed in Ubuntu 10.10.I have downloaded the latest ASUS driver for LInux but have not installed it as my previous attempts at doing this failed miserably and each time necessitating an OS reinstall.I am an experienced Windows user but a rank newbie when it comes to Ubuntu. The following is the result of iwconfig:chad@linuxbox:~$ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I'm not the greatest with linux in general, I mean I know my way around it okay but theres still a ton to learn, and 11.04 is the first version to work on my custom PC without messing up after I update it so I'm left with natty. Anyway I bought my PC with an Asus U8B-N13 Wireless adapter. The disc it came with has the program to install the drivers in Windows, Mac, and Linux, but the Linux drivers need to be compile and I'm yet to have luck doing so. I've tried to somewhat follow an older guide here: [URL].. but I made it as far as extracting the .tgz, then running the make command and got a couple errors. Here is that attempt:
Code: dom@NZXT:~$ cd Desktop dom@NZXT:~/Desktop$ tar -xvzf DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422.tgz DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422/ DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422/iwpriv_usage.txt DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422/LICENSE ralink-firmware.txt DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422/Makefile
I have been playing with the aircrack-ng tools, and also Kismet to see how my networks appear. Kismet creates a monitor interface wlan0mon which it uses for scanning. With airmon-ng I can create and remove monitor interfaces, but I am unable to remove wlan0mon created by kismet. wlan0mon remains regardless of if I forcefully kill the Kismet process or exit cleanly.
airmon-ng stop wlan0mon
results in a message that monitor mode is disabled for wlan0mon, but I can find no way to remove it.Can anyone tell me why this is? I am much more interested in learning why I can't remove this interface, although a solution would also be nifty. using grimwepa with the verbose switch, but from what I could tell grimwepa never calls to use kismet.
I want to use the BU-353 GPS Receiver with Kismet in a Slackware 13 64bit install. I'm holding off on buying it because, even though they have linux drivers, the only distro listed in the linux drivers section is Redhat. Will the Redhat drivers work with Slack?[URL]..
I have a Asus N13-usb adapter and i am running ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. I tried all those commands that you have posted but it led me nowhere. I was wondering if you can help me start off from scratch. I have typed lsub and it showed the device. I followed this thread [URL]and i did it up the part where you downloaded the driver. but i was not able to go further once i typed in the command :
I have an Asus EEE PC 901 from a few years ago with an integrated wireless card (touted as the "integrated Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965 AGN LAN chip" on the website). I am running Ubuntu's Desktop remix 10.10.
My computer connects fine to any given wireless network the first time around, but will not connect to it again.
After I disconnect from a network, every time I try to connect again, it continually asks for the password, and never fully connects, but will spend about 20 minutes trying and asking for the password and trying again.
Sometimes, it will say it is connected (100% strength) but will never load the google start page. This will last about 2 minutes, then it will disconnect, and start the never-ending connection process again.
I am running Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid), Kernel Linux 2.6.32-26-generic-pae, GNOME 2.30.2.
I have installed the ASUS USB-N13 according to your advice in previous posts, specifically, in your advice to 828688 Ben.
The dongle seems to be operating as it should. The LED does its flashing at what appears to be the correct time. Wicd also looks correct. Networks are found with good signals shown. Everything looks correct. But when I attempt to connect, "validating authentication" runs for quite some time, and eventually results in a dialogue window stating the communication failed. The required WEP password is entered in the RT2870STA.dat file, and again in the wicd window.
I have entered as much detail in the RT2870STA.dat file as I dare, and believe it to be correct.
ndiswrapper is not installed. Network Manager is uninstalled. Only wicd remains.
I recently purchased an Asus n10 wireless usb adapter to use with my media server, running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). After spending several hours today with many of the threads (especially this one about the Asus n13) it seems that I've run out of ideas.
My network is running a hidden (non-broadcast) SSID ("Potato") with wpa2 personal encryption.
Here is the relevant information from lsusb:
Code: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0b05:1786 ASUSTek Computer Inc.
Iwconfig follows. The rest of the values, like link quality & etc, are all zero:
I recently bought an Asus laptop and had a friend install ubuntu 10.04. After the install was complete I tried to connect to a network and there was no networks available. After some research time my friend said the I need network drivers to install in ubuntu.
