Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Wired Connection Kills Wireless Connections?

Jul 20, 2011

Just had an issue crop up where connecting wired network seems to stop wireless connections from getting an IP (happens on multiple networks both while the cable is plugged in and once it's been unplugged; also persists across reboots). Machine is a Dell Latitude 2120n with UnionFS running. Connection was working fine prior to the wired connection

Ubuntu Networking :: Lucid - Wireless Button Controls Bluetooth / Shows "wireless Is Disabled"?

Jun 22, 2010

So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".

With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.

I found this rfkill command in another thread:

Before doing anything, after bootup:

Code:
$ rfkill list

Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Ubuntu Networking :: Bluetooth / Wireless Same FN Key Not Working?

Apr 10, 2011

Trying to enable bluetooth (internal) on my Acer Aspire One D255. Despite bluetooth issues in general, here is the kicker: Acer decided to combine the fn+F3 key and fn+F2 key into one uber-network key. In windows 7 you hit fn+F3 and you get two options on your screen: enable/disable wireless + enable/disable bluetooth. Not so Ubuntu. I hit fn+F3 and it does various things to my wireless or my bluetooth every 3rd or 4th press. Disabling or enabling both... or neither. Very frustrating.

1) How does one remap the fn+F# keys (one for each)

2) Is there any other bluetooth voodoo for the bluetooth on this machine?

Ubuntu Networking :: The Bluetooth Manager Does Not Detect A Bluetooth Dongle?

Nov 2, 2010

The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

Ubuntu Networking :: Upgrade 8.04 - 10.04 Kills Wirelss - Compaq 610

Dec 8, 2010

I upgraded today from 8.04 to 10.04 using the update manager. I'd never done it this way before, always just reinstalled, but everything worked fantastically, except for this anomoly.

Wireless was working faultlessly in 8.04. After the upgrade, cable works fine and lspci gives me this:

Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

So the system can still see the card. But have a look at this:

Code:

... and this:

So, using Network Manager (wicd no diff), running exactly the static IPs I had before but nothing. Doesn't see any access points, not just mine.

General :: Can't Enable Wireless Again After Disabling It By Accident

Oct 13, 2010

My Acer notebook has a button that can disable the wireless network device when pressed. Since it is near the ESC key, sometimes I press it on accident, especially when editing something with Vim. When I press the wireless switch to enable the device again, nothing happens. Using the command ifconfig wlan0 up results in the following error:

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

Rebooting and logging on linux again didn't solve anything. I had to log into windows. The device started out disabled, then pressing the button reenabled the device. I'd like to be able either to reenable wireless at will, or outright disable the wireless switch button.

Fedora Networking :: Unknown Network Activity Kills Internet Speed

Jul 13, 2009

I upgraded from Fedora 10 to Fedora 11 last night in response to a pop up window. When I rebooted after the upgrade my wife immediately complained about the internet not working. Actually the connection up was working but Fedora 11 upgrade had made it slow almost to a stop There are two XP machines the network behind a local D-Link wireless router with Comcast high speed internet. When I disable networking on the Fedora machine the internet connection immediately returns to normal on the other two machines. Also there is a second or two period after enabling networking for a quick upload or download before the connection clogs.I checked the system monitor network history and found that there is a constant networking send rate of just under 180 kb/s in the background. This occurs even when the browser, email client, and automatic backup are off and the only process showing significant CPU use in the system monitor is the monitor itself.

I tried netstat but there were so many /tmp/orbit entries that I could not scroll up to the top of the listing. Is this normal. If so, does anyone know the netstat command options to just see connections with sent packets. I also tried ifconfig -a. This shows no Rx packets at all, and no TX packets except on eth0, The total etho TX packets matches t,he reported by the system monitor, and in the monitor you can watch the total accumulate in approx 180 kb/sec increments. I don't understand why 180kb/sec TX would make a dramatic difference in internet network internet speed. Comcast reports upload speeds in megabytes. I need to be able to use the net in Federa, but I am also curious to learn what is the caused the problem.

Ubuntu :: Setting Up A Wireless - Bluetooth External Hard Drive

Jun 25, 2010

Basically I want a shared hard drive plugged into my wireless router and for the family (me and my girlfriend until the little one grows up) to be able to access common files on the same external without the desktop needing to be on.

How to do this?

Do I just use any external? Does it have to have its own power source if plugged into a router? If I have a networking router how do I access those neat features that seem to be written for WIndows?

There are too many things I like about Ubuntu to go back to Windows, but I would like some tips on having a shared external hard drive via the wireless router instead of dropping money on a new bluetooth enabled router.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Bluetooth Phones Not Pairing Up Correctly?

It shows a spinny clocky but just sits there until I cancel. The device manager shows a greyed out light but it lists the device. The tray icon shows device, but gives No supported services found on the menu entry. Dolphin shows device but when I click it to browse it loads to an empty folder. The Device Wizard behaves this way for other phones also, but I was able to get some services running if I ignored it and let it sit there. If I canceled the process it messed up the services.

Debian :: Networking Disabling Interface When Router Is Down?

Jan 27, 2011

I have a Debian computer with 2 network interfaces. Ath0 for wifi and eth0 for cable.
They're configured as dhcp and are getting their ip from different routers. When I shut down one of the router, it takes 5 minutes for the ip address to "Go away". I would like this to take a shorter time. I figured it must be a setting, but my attempts so far have been unsuccessfull. Is there a way to do this?

I'm using dhcp3-client (dhclient) as my client.
