Ubuntu :: Mount FTP Directories To Local Fs - Curlftpfs?

Aug 28, 2010

I'm looking for a way to mount remote ftp directories to local filesystem in order to interact with them as if were local resources. I found several tutorials that recommend curlftpfs, but this project seems no longer maintained (last update on sourceforge goes back to Apr 2007).

So, is curlftpfs still the best choice or is there something newer which I could rely on?

Applications :: Aufs Mounts Won't Umount Due To Being Busy?

Aug 29, 2010

I've installed aufs in order to seemlessly union two filesystems over /usr. One branch is the plain old, existing /usr directory; it's not mounted from a separate filesystem or anything. The other is a /usr on a microsd card. This is what I've added to /etc/fstab:

#the microsd mounted on /aufs/internal_microsd
/dev/mmcblk0p1 /aufs/internal_microsd/ ext2 defaults,noatime 0 0
#the aufs /usr union

Ubuntu Installation :: Configure GRUB For A Union Root Partition (aufs)

Apr 7, 2010

As recommended, I'm creating a new thread for my configuring GRUB problems commented first hereWe are setting up a new version of a custom system, we are migrating to Ubuntu Karmic from another distribution (Slackware). Besides small differences between these systems (most of them from the most recent versions of software used by the latest Ubuntu, such as GRUB 2), it has been decided that the new system will run an union root partition using aufs and tempfs, basically, we are following the steps provided heree install the system to a new hard drive from an already running Ubuntu Karmic system, usingdebootstrap/chroot, we move the disk to another sytem, so we have to correct disk references, we are able to run this system and it behaves correctly the first time it boots, it bypasses the GRUB menu since there are no other systems detected. However, after halting the system and booting it, the GRUB menu appears with a new "recovery" option, we've managed to remove this recovery option usingGRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY=trueBut then, the GRUB menu appears again, this time with only one option to boot: our system installation. But when this GRUB menu appears, it has no default timeout and so it stays forever unless ENTER is pressed to boot into the selected entry.

The main problem is that we are unable to configure GRUB inside the new installation because it always returns this message:grub-probe error cannot find a device for /If we boot the system "normally" (mounting root to a normal partition), we are able to configure GRUB properly, but it does not behave the same when using the union file system as /We are only looking for a way to bypass the GRUB menu and boot our system, do you have any advice on how to properly configure the GRUB menu for our system

Ubuntu Installation :: Directories Requires To Mount Drives?

Since I never got an answer to my last question:I'll ask something simpler. When Ubuntu is booting up, what directories are used for the boot process up until it mounts other drives (such as an SD card).hink that question makes sense, don't hesitate to ask forclarification, though.

The completion suggestions I get are existing mountpoints which The completion suggestions should include the files and directories in the current directory. This worked with Ubuntu 10.04 and not with 11.04.

Debian Configuration :: Samba + Aufs Leads To Kernel Crash

Apr 20, 2010

I've got a server with bit of chaos on it. There is similar data on different partitions which I like to mount remotely with samba. So I setup aufs on the server and then share the merged aufs directory (as read only). All seemed fine, and I was able to mount it nicely. However, when I enter the directory in question does the kernel on the mounting puter start misbehaving.

First it freezes for about a minute. Then I get a bunch of oops-looking messages in dmesg and the system eventually locks up totally. This is what it looks like:

General :: Multiple Users To Create Directories Over SFTP So The New Directories Keep The Same Permissions?

May 15, 2011

I want to make a webserver with multiple users allowed to login through SFTP to a specific folder, www.Multiple users are added, lets say user1 and user2, and all of them belonging to the www-data group. The www directory has an owner www-data and a group www-data.

I have used chmod -R 775 on the www folder, but after I try to create a folder test through my SFTP server (using Filezilla) the group of the directory created has only r and x permissions, and I am not able to log in with the second user user2 and create a directory within www/test due to a lack of w permission to the group.

I also tried using chmod 2775 on www directory, but without luck. Can somebody explain to me, how can I make it so that a newly created directory inherits the root directory group permissions?

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Home Directories Between Machines?

Jul 13, 2010

I want to share home directories from two different machines so that I can log on to both using the same account.

One idea was to host the home directory on a server and mount it to a local directory. I don't think this will work though, because I'm pretty sure the directory wont be mounted until the logon session starts and I'm guessing it wont without the appropriate home directory.

So the question becomes, what tells the OS where the home directory is in the first place. Yes it's in a default place but that path as to be stored in some config file somewhere right?

But another problem is... If the server goes down, I'll have to make sure I can log on via root at the logon screen/get into a terminal/use LiveCD to get access.

It wouldn't be too much of a problem to create an account on each machine, all my media will be on the server anyway. But if I create an account on one, it would be nice if it was automatically added to the other. And it would be great for keeping settings if I want to do a compete wipe if I'm upgrading the file-system or something. I suppose I could just do a backup like everyone else..

The problem is that when I login as a regular user, all the files under the home directory are owned by nobody/nobody, instead of user/group. Firewall off (utf disabled)

Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)

External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)

I have two shares

1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.

2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share".
