Aug 9, 2010I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my old notebook Toshiba and i have no audio sound.
View 8 RepliesI have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my old notebook Toshiba and i have no audio sound.
View 8 RepliesI have a Toshiba Satellite P100-ST9212.reviously it had Windows XP installed and everything worked. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and the installation went smoothly (video, wireless, usb, etc) and I did all the suggested updates. However there is no audio being emitted. All visual and BIOS indications are that the audio should be enabled and working. I have version 4.20 of the BIOSI looked at this forum before submitting this and found general steps to test for.The following steps all succeeded
aplay -l
lspci -v
sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel
The next steps discuss getting fresh ALSA drivers from kernel but this implies that it once worked on a previous Ubuntu install which is not true in my case. So rather than chasing down this potential wild goose I thought I would post this specificestion and see if anyone has seen and better yet knows how to fix this.
i just installed ubuntu yesterday, first time trying linux, and i like it a lot. The only problem i'm having is that some screens move really slow on the browser, like if it still needs a video/graphic drive to be installed. For the sound i was trying to play some mp3s, and i downloaded all the drives online like it asked me to and now when it plays sometimes it's normal and sometimes it sounds weird, and sometimes it lags. Sorry if that's a noob question, but i was wondering if there's and easy solution to that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, help me through getting my audio working properly on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S2081 Laptop. I think I've been through most of the help messages and tried many things to get it working correctly. The ONLY thing that has helped is to go to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change model=auto to model=generic. (options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=generic)
I've tried model=toshiba, model=auto, model=lenovo, model=3stack, model=dallas and the laptops internal sound device disappears from the list of sound devices. If I plug in my Logitech Headset, it seems to work fine.It also seems to work fine if I boot it up into XP SP3.It does work now generally with model=generic, but not sure that everything works properly, like the headset & microphone jack. (Actually the reason I have the Logitech Headset is because the headset jack doesn't work).
I've this issue where my audio on the laptop which is toshiba satelite p100 doesn't work after i installed fedora 12. I installed vlc media player but still can't get audio working!! For general info my audio driver is: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

I havev tried to play the audio with smplayer (not luck), vlc can play the audio but the pause button doesn't work so I have to listen the entire audio all the time I stop it playing. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.
I note these updated packages in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository:
Code:
So my question is, did the updates to pulse audio (in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository) fix the pulse audio situation? Are there ANY helpful views on this?
Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).
to start off, i'll post the specs of the machine:
dell inspiron e1505
3.2 gb ram
1.86 ghz intel core duo
ati x1400 gfx
opensuse 11.4 kde 32 bit.
okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
Can't find anything in any other threads...all volume controls are up, all updates applied.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly. When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.
I tried to OSS workaround to get sound running but instead my sound card disappeared totally from the system. I restored ALSA (I think) but my sound card is still missing in action. If I could get some help on how to restore that I think I could figure the rest out. I tried the sound problem sticky but I ran into the part where the poster has no solution as well. Any assistance is greatly appreciated and I'm slowly learning how the terminal works.....pretty much what windows does for you but it's more flexible at the same time. I learned on DOS so it's not totally alien....just different commands.
I also found Realtek drivers for the HL 272 which is my sound card for linux but I can't make heads or tails of the instructions to install.....
I have a Toshiba Tecra M3 laptop with a resolution of 1024 X 768 and a Nvidia GeForce Go 6600 TE/6200 TE graphics adapter build in, on to which I want to add an external Dell E196FP monitor with a resolution of 1280 X 1024 pixels. I have installed the Nvidia VIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 173.14.22 driver and X server application, but when I go in to the application by "System" -> "Monitors" I get the following message: "It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?", to which I answer yes.
In here, I go to "X Server display configuration", and "Detect displays". Here both displays (the Dell and the build-in Toshiba) is shown, but I do not know what setting to chose under "Configure", where I have 3 options:Disabled Separate X screen TwinView I want the same screen image on both displays - almost like a projector, but I can for the life of me not get it to work.
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a Toshiba L30-10W. The built-in speakers work and the headphone jack work, but I can't get the microphone jack to work. I've tried all of the ALSA options (e.g.- options snd-hda-intel model=laptop), but none of them work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Toshiba T135D-S1324 two days ago, and the only thing I can't get to work is for the internal speakers to automatically mute when headphones are plugged in. (Ubuntu 9.10 for AMD64 by the way.)
I have tried to add "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop probe_mask=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf but that didn't work.
The jack detection box is not available under sound preferences. Alsamixer only shows PCM and Master.
"sudo cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" shows "Codec: Conexant ID 5066"

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. I am sure that the internal microphone works because when I reboot into Windows it works fine. It does not work in Ubuntu instead. I tried three things:
1) Action: I checked all the volumes, made sure that the microphone is not muted and selected the proper device as "Analog Stereo Duplex".
Result: no improvements.
2) Action: I installed PulseAudio to better manage the volumes.
Result: no improvements.
3) Action: in the Terminal, I executed the line " sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf " and then added the line " options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba " at the bottom of the page that opened. I saved, closed and rebooted.
Result: no improvements.

I'm having the same problem this guy had. He got an error message when trying to install LinDVD, but since he realized he didn't actually need the software in the first place, the thread is still unsolved.
My computer has no CD/DVD drive. I just got a Toshiba External SuperMulti Drive that I want to use for reading CDs and DVDs. The drive included a CD with LinDVD on it, which I can put into the drive and use to install LinDVD. However, the Package Installer gives me the same status message as CKMBDavis had: Error: Wrong architecture 'lpia'.
I tried just hooking up the drive to my computer and inserting a DVD. It prompted me to open Movie Player, which I did, but when it tried to actually play the DVD, a pop up box came up that said, "An error occurred. Could not read from resource." VLC will not play the DVD either.
Here is my output for print architecture in response to adam814's first comment on CKMBDavis's thread:
Code:
$ dpkg --print-architecture
i386
I also tried adam814's suggestion in his second comment:
Code:
$ dpkg --force-architecture -i <lindvd.deb>
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
How do I get my DVD player to work?
