I've encoded a video file with Tovid, but it wouldnt burn it. So i burn it onto disc with Brasero. The dvd will play in my Toshiba player but not in my Panasonic one.

When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.

I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
I used Openshot to produce a slideshow, and K3b to burn a DVD with the output from Openshot which is a .vob file.
The DVD plays on my new model, cheap Samsung DVD player. It comes up on the TV screen listed as an MPG. I hit play, it plays fine.
But on other peoples older DVD players it says NO DISK. It will not play.
Is there a way to take the .vob file I produced with Openshot and convert it or something so when K3b burns it to a DVD it will play on older DVD players?
Maybe vob can be converted into something, then burned with k3b so the resulting DVD is compatible with more, older DVD players??
i tried to play videos with 3 players, while trying to move the player's window or go to full screen ubuntu crashes.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem playing MIDI files on my system: I tried opening two MIDI files in Audacious, VLC, Aqualung and Rhythmbox, and Rhythmbox is the only one that will play them:
- Audacious crashes when clicking on the file in the playlist (immediately disappears)
- Aqualung doesn't add them to its playlist
- VLC produces an error msg saying it can't play MIDI
- Rhythmbox plays a MIDI file and immediately crashes at its end
I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 64 and have timidity installed.

However trying to play them with banshee it doesn't work and it pops up a dialog asking whether I want to search for a suitable codec (which also doesn't work).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).
I also took a snapshot of my system monitor. I am not sure what resources it is talking about?
There is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter updating the repositories, a long update took place... and after completed, my sound card was disabled. I had to reboot the system to have it working again, yet... mp3, mp4, avi files cannot be reproduced at all.
I just want to get rid of Win 7... and I find OpenSuse very stable, solid and friendly. I just installed version 11.2 in this old Toshiba Satellite, as a pilot installation prior the final one in a desktop PC.
I've just updated to 10.04 and found out that I can't play original DVDs. Movie Player gives me error message "Could not read from resource" and VLC just ignores all attempts to play the DVD.

I am having problems playing dvds on my laptop which is a bluray player. I cannot even play regular dvds, I can read them and see there is stuff there, but cannot play them in mplayer or totem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I insert a movie DVD into the drive, the disk is read, a window pops up asking what software do I want to use (Open Movie Player is the default). I click use Open Movie Player and get "An error occurred could not read from resource" dialog - and the movie does not play.The file manager reads the disk without any problem, so don't think it's a bad disk (and it plays in my WinXP machine). I checked in Synaptic and it appears that Totem and all the stuff that needs to be installed with Totem is there. Is there another player or some front end for totem that I don't have? In that initial screen asking for software choice, totem is not an optio n.I've looked around in Medibuntu and it looks like all the needed files are already installed. I have tried removing and uninstalling all media players, codecs and everything with no luck yet. When I play an AVI it brings up a window saying I need the divx or mpeg-4 codec. Click here to download. When I click it, it tells me it can't find the required drivers. The audio plays but no video. I have installed the codecs from what I can tell. I have seen errors for DivX MPEG-4 Version 5, X-VID MPEG-4, and H.264.

View 9 Replies View RelatedVLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files?
