Ubuntu :: All The Video Editors So Unstable?

Mar 12, 2011

I want to use linux instead of windows to create my videos, but all the video editors are so unstable that they are not possible to use at all.At first I Thought it was my hardware or something but I tried on my laptop as well. They all crash randomly every time I try to do stuff.I have tried OpenShot, VLMC, Pitivi, OpenMovieEditor, Avidemux, Kino, LiVES, Cinelerra and Kdenlive. How come I never have problems like this in windows?I know Linux sometimes sucks when it comes to brand new hardware, but seriously though. All the video editors are crashy.

Software :: Want Video Editors In System

Sep 24, 2010

I'm experimenting with video editors; so far I've tried Kdenlive, Kino, and Avidemux. It looks like I can't get Cinerella from my package manager but will compile it if need be.
I'm wondering which video editor is closest to something professional like Adobe Premier or Final Cut Pro?
Also which editor do you prefer for ease of use/features/stability etc.?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Preferred App Settings For Media?

Aug 15, 2010

Using Preferences->Preferred Applications, in the multimedia tab, I've selected 'custom' and set the command to "guayadeque". But, if I double click on a .mp3, movieplayer pops up, and if I use a Media Control Applet in AWN, rythmbox shows up as the default. Anyway to make guayadeque (or other) as the true system default for music files?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Are Nvidia Graphics Cards Still Preferred To ATI?

Apr 11, 2010

After a PSU and motherboard failure, I'm about to spec out a new PC. The last time I looked, Nvidia was the preferred graphics chipset as they tended to support Linux better than ATI. Is this still the case?[url].... seem to have lots of ATI cards in stock but hardly any Nvidia (despite offering a similar sized range), but I don't want to get an ATI card if it's not preferred for technological reasons (or even FOSS ethical reasons!).

Ubuntu :: Seting Up An LVM For Novices?

Sep 1, 2011

setting up a new system with an encrypted LVM and having a bit of trouble.so far I haven't found any information on how to ad a new drive to the encrypted volume. basically I bought 2 new 2tb drives and want to achieve having a 4tb encrypted volume with everything on it. so far, the LVM software has only shown me several ways to totally screw it all up. I've had to re-install like 3 times. I can't figure it out and there doesn't seem to be any instruction manual to that particular piece of software. I've gotten as far as adding the other drive to the group but can't figure out how to enlarge the lvm into it.

Ubuntu :: Text Editors Start Up Is Slow

May 3, 2010

Whenever I start a text editor, such as kate, kwrite, gedit, it takes at least 10 seconds to start up.This on a PC with 4 cores and 3GB RAM.I know that these text editors should start up much faster, like, I click the launch icon and it should already by there. But instead it's 10 seconds waiting and then the editor is there. Why, what's it doing during those 10 seconds, and most important, how can I fix this?

Ubuntu :: Menu Editors Not Working In Natty KDE & Gnome?

May 6, 2011

I installed Ubuntu Gnome fresh yesterday. I quickly decided Unity wasn't to my taste, especially when I seemed to hose it by trying to customize my compiz settings with ccsm (don't mess with compiz if you use Unity in any way). Anywho, I retreated to standard Gnome and also installed KDE. Mostly OK, but I noticed neither of the menu editors are working properly. When I install an application from the repositories it creates a proper menu entry, but when I install a Wine application nothing appears in the menu. Attempting to edit, add, or delete menu entries with the Gnome menu editor doesn't work. Hitting the New or Properties buttons produces no effect. Using the KDE menu editor from the Classic (non-slab) menu is likewise unsatisfactory. I can add or modify entries and apparently save them but nothing appears in the menu and when I re-open the menu editor my entries are not there. I can manually create application shortcuts on the desktop or on the Gnome panel, but I can't add those to the KDE Quick Launch bar in the panel (I think that's what its called, I'm in Gnome now).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HD Video Playback - Video And Sound Frequently Get Out Of Sync

Oct 17, 2010

When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).

I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.

Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

Apr 20, 2011

I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Messy Video Playback Also Appears When Use Cheese To Capture Video With My Webcam

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Totem - Video Stays On Top Of Drop Down Menus And Video Remains When Change Windows?

May 30, 2011

this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Resolution Seems To Change During Video Playback

Apr 11, 2011

I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:

- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]

As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.

Alltogether I have the following setup:

- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)

Now, here is the problem:

Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".

How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
