Ubuntu Multimedia :: Prevent Unnecessary Re-rendering In PiTiVi?

Dec 19, 2010

I have a JVC Everio video camera that records directly DVD compliant mpeg files. Does anyone have a solution how to prevent re-rendering the files since that takes a lot of time and usually the end result is worse than the original one...If PiTiVi does not enable this can anyone propose some other program to do this?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: "Nvidia: Direct Rendering Failed, Attempting Indirect Rendering"

Apr 3, 2010

I recently downloaded Frets On Fire and the HRP Polymer pack for Duke3D...Duke3D runs fine with just EDuke32 and no mods, just Duke3D and EDuke32. But when I try the HRP Polymer pack, it says in Terminal "NVIDIA: Direct Rendering failed, attempting indirect rendering." This is fine...if I want the game to lag like hell, I'm sure my video card and the driver for it support DR, the video card is a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200, the same message appears in terminal when I run Frets On Fire, I think it does with other games too, if someone could explain how to enable Direct Rendering.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Encoding To X.264 In Pitivi?

And if X.264 can't encode to X.264 then at lest how do I turn the quality up in the formats that it does support.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: PiTiVi - Has Anyone Got Raw Audio To Work?

Aug 21, 2010

with windows and sony vegas 9 i am used to often rendering with compressed hd avi and uncompressed audio, as this gets mangled far less by videos's compression policy if you have music in your videos, in my case home-made with acoustic guitar. with my two current installations of ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop and pc no output format i've tried lets the raw audio option work, which is the only option that looks like it would keep my wav files as they are. the rendered video is silent, with totem displaying the icon for muted sound when the film is played. unmuting doesn't correct this.

is this a bug or are there other codecs to add for this? aiff would be fine even i think. i wondered if changing the bit rate of aac from the 256000 i currently have entered (rather than the default 128000) to the bit rate of uncompressed audio might force what i need, kind of like ms's newer lossless wma.

i installed the restricted extras packages. there is quite a list in the pitivi options including a lot of ffmpeg stuff. i don't know if additionally vlc's codecs are added or anything like that.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: PiTiVi Won't Play Created Videos / Reolve This?

May 13, 2010

Ok, so I found PiTiVi after upgrading to Lucid and figured, great, maybe I can stop using my Mac for video editing. Extra bonus, my Mac can't really handle the MTS files my small camera makes.

PiTiVi can load them as clips, and right-clicking on a clip and selecting "Play Clip" works just fine.

However, when I copy clips to the timeline in order to create an actual video, I can't play it or move the playback head. Pressing space does nothing, selecting "Preview -> Play" does nothing, clicking on the timeline does nothing. I can still move clips around, delete them, rearrange them, etc, but not play the video.

I can't render them, either, but I've found there's a known bug where PiTiVi won't render a video unless you move the playback head first... which I can't do.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Export A Video From Pitivi In A Format From Lucid 64-bit

Jun 5, 2010

i am trying to export a video from pitivi in a format that can be uploaded to videos. i found this thread which suggests using an flv muxer with the l.a.m.e. mp3 encoder. my problem is that my pitivi doesn't list lame as an option, and i haven't been able to get it in.

i have tried reinstalling lame from the repositories, and also building lame, ffmpeg, gstreamer, faac, x264 and pitivi from the latest source. i simply can't get a video format to export that works in videos. mp4 and other format exports don't seem to work at all, they get stuck on the first frame.

pitivi can export ogg video perfectly, however if i try to upload that to videos it comes out with bad video. i've tried converting the ogg video to avi with mencoder, but it drops a lot of frames and ends up with the audio badly out of sync. i've run out of ideas to try -- anyone been through this before, or know of something i may be doing wrong? i'm certainly no expert in building from source (or anything!), it just seemed like something to try...

Ubuntu Multimedia :: PiTiVi Rendered Video Has Wrong Aspect Ratio

May 8, 2010

I have a video edited in Pitivi. The source files were recorded from a VHS tape, so it's NTSC size (720x480).

Problem is that when I render it the output looks stretched vertically. When I play it in Totem Movie Player, the aspect ratio option can be changed from "Auto" to "4:3 TV" and then it looks correct.

How can I render the output file with a different aspect ratio?

I tried going into Project Settings and adjusting the Video Output height and width, but this doesn't change the aspect ratio. Also tried PAL and VGA instead of NTSC. What should I try next?

Using the version of Pitivi that comes with a fresh install of 10.04 LTS.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: CPU Doing All Video Rendering?

I am completely new to Ubuntu and so far am pretty happy. I am running into an issue playing web videos, ..... (flash) as well as html5. What is happening is that the CPU is doing all the work instead of the GPU causing the video to skip/stutter, here are the system specs.

MSI K7N2 Delta 2 LSR (latest bios)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton)
2GB's PC3200
nVidia 6800GT (AGP)
Ubuntu 10.10 32bit (fresh Install
nVidia driver 260.19.06

When video is played the CPU's useage climbs to 100% and video lags. Again I am completely new to Ubuntu as well as Linux but I am trying, lol.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Fglrx Bad Rendering In Gdm And Without Desktop Effects?

Dec 23, 2010

My new machine with a fresh install of Lucid boots up and displays the standard gdm login screen showing the list of users which looks fine. After you hover over a name or other option menus on the display, the pop-up or screen change is rendered poorly. It very slowly fixes itself over time. After I login everything works just fine even with the extra "desktop effects" I recently discovered that if I set the desktop effects to none, I get the same effect on my desktop. I've attached a screen capture to illustrate what I see but find hard to describe. The little horizontal bars will gradually be fixed over a minute or so. Dragging the window around smears that effect around the screen. I've been sniffing around the web off and on for a couple months now but haven't found anything that sounds similar.

Now for some hopefully helpful configuration data: This system is based on an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard with integrated ATI radeon video, and a 6 core processor. Lucid 32bit.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Compiz - Config Not Working - Check Says No Rendering In Use

Feb 9, 2011

i have ubuntu studio 10.04 installed and this is my second installation of the system. now that i have updated the system, got the fglrx drivers for my ATI HD5750, installed compiz-config-settings and glx-dock (aka cairo-dock). the first time i started the glx-dock, half of the dock was visible and it was distorted all over. so i ran compiz-config-settings for the first time and saw that it wasn't also working. then i tried to find a solution for a few valuable hours because it was essential to customize the feel of an OS but i think i have came to a point that i should stop trying to learn things that i see for the first time but ask and hope for the best (soon). anyway i should say that compiz and cairo dock was working the first time i installed the system. now when i run compiz-check, it gives the following output:

Code: Gathering information about your system...

Graphics chip: ATI Technologies Inc Device 68be
Driver in use: fglrx

Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system... [SKIP]
Checking for hardware/setup problems... [SKIP]

At least one check had to be skipped: Error: No rendering method in use (AIGLX, Xgl or Nvidia) ok AIGLX doesn't start, so i check Xorg.0.log and it says: (it has loaded and initialised AIGLX but maybe i misunderstand something, anyway you should see for yourself)

Debian Multimedia :: Weird Content Rendering With Iceweasel - Can't Click On Any Of The Links

Jun 7, 2011

Alright ... recently switched from Ubuntu with FF 4.0 to Debian with Iceweasel which I had to upgrade to 4.0 since I really liked the way it worked on Ubu 10.10 ... but I'm having some really strange rendering issues. Flash is not a problem at all, works fine on all flash sites that I've checked out. Some sites though, including this Debian forum, do not show everything in the Iceweasel browser window.

For example, sometimes I'll be browsing on a page with huge chunks of white, clearly indicating that "something" should be in those spaces. When I look at those same pages with Chrome or Opera, everything is filled the way it should be ... all content is displaying properly.

On some sites, like this forum, the rendering is even worse because not only do some items not show up, but in addition most of the links don't work at all. For example, if I use Iceweasel 4.0 to look at the board index of this forum, I can't click on any of the links, not the links in the main sections anyway. If I open up Chrome (that's what I'm using to write this) or Opera, the problem is gone.

What the heck is going on, does anyone know? Is this an Iceweasel bug? Am I missing some package update? I'd hate to have to switch my preferred browser just because this weirdness is going on. At first I thought it was a fluke, specific to a site or two only, but at this point I've seen these rendering issues on about 10 sites ...

Debian Multimedia :: Iceweasel Page Rendering - Not Displaying Portions Of Pages Properly ?

Jun 10, 2011

I guess this is a part deux, since I already posted one rendering issue which was eventually resolved ... having to do with the themes of this Debian Forum. Well, I don't know if this is related to that, but yesterday I noticed on another site that my Iceweasel 4.01 is not displaying portions of pages properly. See attached images. Both Chrome & Opera display that page correctly, I've included a screenshot of the same page with Chrome. I have JAVA installed and everything works perfectly fine accross the board on all browsers, except for this "once in a while" issue with Iceweasel. I've noticed this "missing content oddity" on three sites so far (out of 50 or more). No problem with eBay, craigslist, paypal, and other major players.

Open the images with a new tab, then compare both images side by side for best results.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Prevent - Using AC97 Audio

Mar 12, 2011

I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card installed in my PC. It is of far higher quality than the AC97 sound built into the VIA chipset. I want to use the M-Audio card so AC97 sound is disabled in BIOS.

When using Audacity I can record and play with the M-Audio card as I wish.

When using VLC (or any other media player), Ubuntu insists on playing through the AC97 ports - which I have disabled and which, I would have thought, was a pretty good indication that I don't want to use them.

Even when I configure VLC to use the M-Audio card (using VLC's <tools> <preferences> <audio> <output Device> ) it still plays through the motherboard via-82xx hardware.

What nonsense is this? Surely Ubuntu cannot require me to replug my speakers when I want to switch between VLC/ Brasero etc and Audacity?

I looked at the Pulse Audio apps: good grief! Is there any human being which understand what all that is supposed to be about? I could find nothing which matched my understanding of my hardware or related in any way to what I, as an end-user, want to do with my system. Is there an interpretation of this PulseAudio function available anywhere?
