Is there any way to get a cheap Logitech camera working with Skype/Lubuntu 10.10 which I just installed to my laptop compaq nx9010? Cheese is working OK, but Skype-Options-Video Devices-test picture gives me nothing but black. Skype recognizes the camera though, as to be USB Camera (046d:08d9) (/dev/video0).On my other computer (this one, Ubuntu 10.10) I have a Creative camera, works out of the box..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit finding my digital camera (Nikon CoolPix S4000). For whatever reason, when I plug in the camera via USB connection, Ubuntu will not detect it. The odd thing is that on my old Ubuntu 9.04 32bit install my camera was detected fine (it appeared as an icon on the desktop, akin to a flashdrive or any other mounted drive).

This happened a few years ago and I was able to downgrade libgphoto2, but when I tried that this time I ran into dependency problems. When I returned to the version that comes with 10.10 it worked once then failed ever since.
I installed skype on my linux distribution (Linux singh-VGN-CR35G-L 2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux) but when i make video calls the camera doesnt work. I checked with the lsusb command ...it confirmed the availability...even when i Tried to run Cheese..it gave me error "No device found"
I installed luvcview and when I Tried to run it...it gave me following error....

I find that once i log into gnome i have to pull out the Logitech C600 web cam and plug it for it to show up in the 'input' tab under sound preferences.
It's a bit of a hassle to do this every time i log on. I tested it in Ubuntu 10.04 and the webcam is properly detected at the boot.
My previous laptop died (HD failure, etc.) so I just put F15/LXDE on a Dell Latitude D610. All updates applied. I inserted my Canon Powershot A480 in a USB port, but o/s doesn't seem to react. No desktop icon, no FileManager presence, nothing in /media folder. Other USB devices are detected, mounted and recognized (external HD, memory stick, etc.), but not the camera. what I should do to get the camera recognized?
Edit: DigiKam and Digikam libs are installed and system was rebooted. Still no camera detection.
I am a newbie. I have a Dell Vostro 2510 running XP. I have virtualbox and installed ubuntu 10.10 aS guest.
The one issue I seem to have is i cannot get my webcam to work. I searched everywheres for some tips on what do to, but nothing seems to work.
I installed both Cheese and Skype. The camera is not even detected.
I am new to Linux, and have started using Ubuntu 9.10. everything seem to be in place except for the Web Cam. i think it is not being identified by my OS. i have tried Ekiga, but still of no use. i am using a Compaq Laptop with an inbuilt camera.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis device doesn't automount, doesn't show in KDE 4's device notifier, and I can't mount this camera manually because it doesn't appear to get assigned to a device node. Any known solutions? It worked in Slackware 12.2, but not in 13.0 or 13.1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a shiny new LG 10x BD-ROM Combo drive. I installed it without problems. The rest of my system consists of:
MSI k9a2 platinum mobo
AMD Phenom 9950
3x SATA HDD
nvidia gtx260
That's probably everything pertinent. I have the SATA HDDs installed on SATA ports 1, 3, 4 (not the promise slots, 5 & 6), and the BD-ROM installed on SATA 2. I don't think that's an issue, though. I did replace a working sony opiartic (sp?) DVD-RW, so I don't suspect any cable issues (for that and for other reasons).
note: "restart" = "reboot via restart", as opposed to power down & turn back on.
1. I turn on the power. BIOS posts that it sees the BD-ROM in the SATA 2 spot.
2. I boot into Ubuntu 9.10 (updated with the latest x.20 kernel). It does take a little longer than usual to load between the grub menu and the login.
3. After login, the device shows up as cdrom0 in the "Places" menu. Clicking on it returns an error whether a disc is in the drive or not. At this point, however, the open/close button on the drive no longer works. Its as if it's lost all power or connection or something.
4. When I restart, BIOS hangs a while while posting. It shows only devices on SATA ports 1, 3, & 4. It's as if the BD-ROM doesn't exist anymore.

lspci and lspci -vvnn show nothing... well, technically they show everything BUT the drive. I'm planning on purchasing a second BD-ROM (different manufacturer, if I can help it), to test later, but I don't have high hopes. It could be a motherboard issue, I suppose, but updating the BIOS from 1.4 to the latest version (1.9) solved nothing. I don't suspect it's the hardware, though, since it works fine in Win7. I imagine that the culprit is linux/ubuntu, and I need some help figuring out if this is a fixable problem. I've been really, really happy with Ubuntu and linux in general. Ubuntu is my primary OS, with Win7 as my backup in case of emergencies, but I'm seriously considering wiping linux & using Win7 exclusively altogether with this severe hardware issue.
I'm getting dropped frames from both Digital8 & MiniDV camcorders using Kino. MyCPU doesn't seem to be spiking. I've made sure compiz is disabled and no memory/cpu hungry apps are running. I'm using SATA drives so DMA shouldn't be the issue.
The video and audio that is captured seems to be fine.

Does anyone know of a variant on the Logitech SetPoint software (it allows more functions for Logitech keyboards and mice) for Ubuntu? Would the Windows version work in Wine? I didn't think it would because the app uses Bluetooth, and I don't know if Wine can do that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 and everything is ok except my USB Logitech Headset. The problem is that volume of the device is very low and I can't hear the music or any sound like I use to heard. Even if I increase the volume up to 100%, I still hearing the sound with a very low volume. But if I use the analog output of my sound card I can hear very well. I remember that i used to have this problem in ubuntu 9.10 but I fixed with a script that I found it in this forum, but I can't find it again.

Just found my old Logitech webcam again, and tried to get it to work on 10.04. Somehow this doesn't work. I tried searching the forum, but did not get an answer to my situation.
Here is what I can see:
After connecting (or rebooting), dmesg shows the following lines
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:08cc)
input: UVC Camera (046d:08cc) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/input/input5
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
And that's it. No message that cam was registered to /dev/video<x>. I should add that I already have another cam (Philips) that works and is registered to /dev/video0, and I also installed a Hauppauge PVR350 card that also gets registered to various /dev/video<y> files. Why the Logitech cam won't register? I'm guessing I can't do anything until this cam has its own /dev/video<x>, right?
So i installed Linx 10.4, and attempted to get my webcam to work...
nothing at all!
It's a Logitech C200, webcam!
I'm trying to get my Logitech webcam to work. I don't know the exact model but it's a round globe.
Lsusb says-
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:08f5 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messenger Communicate
I've tried Cheese, VLS but no video as of yet.
What I'm trying to do is set up my quickcam to stream video to a web page for zone minder to pick up. If that makes any sense.
Here is the error that I'm getting:
Code:
libavutil 50.15. 1 / 50.15. 1
libavcodec 52.72. 2 / 52.72. 2
libavformat 52.64. 2 / 52.64. 2

I upgraded recently to Ubuntu 11.04 and have been trying unsuccessfully since to use an old webcam: Logitech Quickcam Messenger. The system doesn't recognize it at all as far as I can tell, which it did on 10.10 (I didn't really use it then, I just remember I could get a picture at some point.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did an upgrade to ubunut 10.04. I have a nikon d70 that I plugged into the computer to download the pictures off of but to my surprise my computer no longer sees the camera. I did a search and found a few threads about USB cameras and skype but nothing about this issue. Is there anyone else having this problem?
Is there a fix for it? So far everything has been working OK with UBUNTU 10.04 I would hate to go back to windows xp only because I am not able to download the pictures from my camera.
Can I run this camera:
Quote:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 046d:0809 Logitech, Inc
as something other than a UVC driven camera?
It appears that UVC in 640x480 format is only available at 15 fps. I need to record at fps=30. So I can splice into existing video.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
##Turn on webcam and save video and audio output to file.
# check if there is no command line argument

I was looking to iphone and i was surprised the quality of such tiny camera.
Is there any alternative camera for my laptop to have similar or much better then the one in iphone? So that i can use it from my laptop, but have very sharp HD quality with maximum megapixel + highest frame per second.
It seems to be recognized as follows:

Been using Windows 7 for a good while but would love to make a switch over to Ubuntu i installed via WUBI the 64bit of 10.4. The headset is detected and the mic is detected and both work fine but the Dolby 7.1 "effect" does not work at all. Now in Windows a app has to be running for the Dolby part to work. Any thought on how to get that to also work in Ubuntu?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got a Logitech N700 laptop rest for Christmas. I love it, the sound is a vast improvement over my laptop's speakers. However, there's one problem with it. If I leave it plugged in (via USB), when I power my laptop on, the initial volume is set at max, so my login sound is super loud. It doesn't matter what I set the volume to when I power down the laptop, it will always be at max when I power on the laptop. how to get Ubuntu to remember what sound level I powered down with, or at the very least set a default sound level so that it's not at max when I power on my laptop?

It works fine or a minute or two, but then the picture freezes.
Using Skype, Cheese or flash based ustream.
THey are both HD Logitech webcams and give me a great image until they freeze.
