Ubuntu Multimedia :: Install Gapless Audio Players - "wxWidgets Not Found"?
Mar 1, 2010
XMMS2, with the crossfade plugin will play gapless...assuming it will play at all. Sometimes I can get it to work when I end pulseaudio, and sometimes not. And now it's just not working at all. Audacious has a crossfade plugin that I'm informed works with gapless...but as soon as I install the plugin, audacious just stops working. MOC claims to have gapless support, but now that I've (supposedly) successfully installed it, I am buggered if I can find it on my computer.
Guayadeque, which I found out about in the last ten minutes, is said to work with gapless, but having followed the detailed instructions on how to install it, I cannot get it to install. I keep getting some crap about "wxWidgets not found" Rhythmbox is claimed to have gapless support. It doesn't. Exaile is supposed to have some kind of gapless/crossfade thing, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
Aqualung will do gapless, and at a pinch I'll use it, but if I want to skip to the next track or adjust the volume, at least fifteen seconds will elapse between me telling it to do something, and it doing what it's bloody well told!

Got my system's audio up, but I'm having a real problem keeping streaming audio going, either in VLC or in the default movie player thing. It'll go for a while and then just stop. I guess it's having a problem with "resume" function or buffering.Any thoughts on this? I'm not having that problem with VLC in XP on the same connection.

I have very strange problems with all the good audio mp3 players in Ubuntu. Not the bad programs only the good (whcich have good skins and library and so on). Amarok for some reason skips all the music files but only mp3 if I put m3u online radio it works. It doesn't show errors at all just skips the songs. I've never had issues with mp3 files before. The movie player works liek a charm but is too cheap (no library to browse files). Banshee was great and suddenly it stopped working just like the good old Rhythmbox... They appear to be starting in background but don't show nowhere. I cannot install XMMS players too it isn't found on the apt-get server. Also my packages are fully updated.
Reinstalling the programs don't help at all! It must be some major issue with the programs not launching. It's not a single program Banshee, Rhythmbox and I think some other but don't remember the names. Movie player plays all but is too simple. I want something like Winamp with nice library please help. No need for movies just mp3. Exaile works not fine with mp3 but I preffer how Rhytmhbox shows the music library with all the songs not like in seperate folders. I could try song shuffle. But why the other programs don't start what command can show what's happening?

To get multimedia working, or explain what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.
with mplayer:
xine and kaffeine just say:
vlc:
I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/

I made a backup of some mp3 and ogg files onto a a DVD. I had to re-install my OS and now need these backup files. The files show up on the file navigator and show appropriate file sizes but they are not recognized by any of several players I have tried (Rhythmbox, xmms, vlc, amarok).

I encounter many problems, the most pressing now is the lack of my Ubunto-PC to make use of my M-Audio Delta 1010 LT Soundcard. I installed ALSA package yesterday, but there's still no sign of my Soundcard to be found. sudo aplay -l delivers: aplay: device_list:223: keine Soundkarten gefunden ... (no soundcards found)

Installed Wheezy. Audio players either stop with an error message about no sound, or they quietly play silence. Tried with gui and comand-line versions.
Mucking about with lspci indicates that I have two sound cards. News to me. I try "lspci | grep -i audio" and get
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell HD Audio Controller (rev 06)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Lynx Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

I'm brand new to debian and quite new to unix based systems in general.
I just switched to debian from ubuntu in search of something different and I want to find a system that works for me before I settle down.
I DO NOT HAVE A SECONDARY OS
just two problems I have with debian:
No sound
Error message: No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
When I try to open sound from the speaker icon at top right.
I think it's a driver issue but Its not as easy as ubuntu was lspci:
My trackpad also does not work so I have to open documents manually if I don't bring my mouse to class.

Using Debian stable. 64-Bit. I can play videos and music using Totem and VLC. And I can play audio files with audacious and Rhythmbox. And I can play flash in firefox and google-chrome. But, if I open audacious and then play a flash file in Firefox or google-chrome audacious crashes as well as other multimedia players that I have open such as Totem, VLC and/or Ryhthmbox.
Would like to know if you can offer some troubleshooting steps to take so that I can play a flash file in a browser and still play an mp3 file in the audio player without having to kill those processes and restart.

i'm running 11.04 64-bit and windows 7 dualboot. yesterday, i tried to merge some of my partitions using windows disk management and it didn't work. which was fine, but i had to reinstall and reupdate to grub 2.0 which i found out is a known problem if you mess with partitions in windows.everything is working fine in 11.04 now, except that my gapless playback in banshee is not working. there's now a little gap between every song. is this a hard drive problem? is there a way to fix it?

I bought myself an inexpensive USB mp3 player the other day, thinking that I could sync it just like I do my digital camera and thumb drives. No such luck.
The player is identified by 'lsusb -vv' as follows:

I need to download wxWidgets 2.4.2 but can't find it anywhere on the net. Yes I know it is extremely old, but sometimes old packages are better than new ones. Or 2.4.5. Its a real pain because I know there are security risks associated with old widgets but the programs I want to run only run on widgets 2.4.

I used Openshot to produce a slideshow, and K3b to burn a DVD with the output from Openshot which is a .vob file.
The DVD plays on my new model, cheap Samsung DVD player. It comes up on the TV screen listed as an MPG. I hit play, it plays fine.
But on other peoples older DVD players it says NO DISK. It will not play.
Is there a way to take the .vob file I produced with Openshot and convert it or something so when K3b burns it to a DVD it will play on older DVD players?
Maybe vob can be converted into something, then burned with k3b so the resulting DVD is compatible with more, older DVD players??

Only a few minutes ago, my sound just seemed to disappear while I was listening to some Dream Theater.
The onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS as I'm using another card.
Rhythmbox won't play anything. Starting a song just leaves the progress bar sitting at the start.
Sound preferences shows everything up at full. I tried modding the volume, but I can't move it (It moves for like a millisecond then hits 100% again).
It's a C-Media sound card. It was working perfectly prior to a few minutes ago.
What's going' on here?

I have a .wav file (a drum beat) that I want to use to play along with. The problem I am encountering is that I can't get either VLC or Windows Media Player (both on Windows 7) to play the file in repeat mode gaplessly, which makes it useless since it's a drum beat and it needs to be precise.
Is there some program on either Windows 7 or linux that you know can do this?

I did fine with Ubuntu 9.04 for a month and then things went wrong and I could no longer compile programs though others on the same distro could so I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.04.First step is to compile wxWidgets. Before this was automatic sudo make install libgtk2.0-dev, download wxGTK from wxWidgets then compile and make wxWidgets. Now I can't even do that, I get make errors every time and as soon as I resolve one. another shows. Widgets version 2-8-10 is the same as before. Does anyone know a current address for a tutorial getting widgets to compile with Ubuntu, I don't know whether to ask you, Ubuntu or Widgets (or understand what went wrong with Ubuntu in the first place.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with XP on a laptop. Whenever I try to play any video files, even just bog standard avi files, the media player just shuts down and disappears. This has happened with the movie player that comes with the OS as well as VLC. I also tried out Dragon Player and the files seem to load up and when played the timeline slider just skips across to the end in about 5 seconds but no picture is shown during this time. The codecs all appear to be installed fine even though I know that VLC doesn't require them. My video card is ATI and I know that it works fine as these files play alright when booted up into XP, Hi-Def included.

I have a problem playing MIDI files on my system: I tried opening two MIDI files in Audacious, VLC, Aqualung and Rhythmbox, and Rhythmbox is the only one that will play them:
- Audacious crashes when clicking on the file in the playlist (immediately disappears)
- Aqualung doesn't add them to its playlist
- VLC produces an error msg saying it can't play MIDI
- Rhythmbox plays a MIDI file and immediately crashes at its end
I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 64 and have timidity installed.

I am running Maverick on Asus k52J laptop. I recently updated my clementine to 0.6 and since then all my music players are crashing on song play (includes banshee, clementine and rhythmbox). I removed and reinstalled all players, changed repositories and downgraded, reinstalled qt and python but nothing seems to fix the problem with these players.I installed some other players (audacious, exaile, vlc, foobnix) and they are working pretty well. But I am addicted to clementine and banshee.

Rhythmbox crashes on startup, Clementine crashes once I try to play any file, Banshee crashes after the first second of any file. Totem actually still works, but it's not a very satisfying media player. :P This occurred suddenly after working fine for, well, months. I read that I should check whether I have the standard up-to-date gstreamer/pulseaudio/liborc versions installed, this seems to be the case.
Here the terminal output for all crashes:

One of the things I love most about SMPlayer is that it will pick up from the same spot at which the file was closed previously i.e. if I watched 20 minutes of a movie then had to go out, when I open up the file again it starts right at 20 minutes. I was wondering if anyone knew of any music player programs that do the same thing, I mostly listen to audiobooks so that feature would come in very handy. Currently I am using Rhythmbox.
