I am using centos 5.2 with kernal version "kernel-2.6.18-92.el5" i cant play mp3 songs in any of the players provided..can u help me in installing "vlc" or any other versatile player..thnx in advance.

To get multimedia working, or explain what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.
with mplayer:
xine and kaffeine just say:
vlc:
I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
I normally tried yum lock for installing players like
yum install xmms xmms-mp3
but it starts and when
primary.sqlite.bz2
starts download it stops after sometime & try another mirror &
finally never install
what is the problem?
I saw in CentOs Documentation that the only Tomcat package available in CentOs 5 was Tomcat 5, I would like to know why CentOs 5 didn't support Tomcat 6. And what's more I would like to know whether last version of Tomcat (6.0.18) can be installed on CentOs 5, and if we can trust installation tutorial we can read on centOs How 2 page? And in addition, could you tell me why Tomcat 6 isn't provided in CentOs Yum repository ... Is there a no working reason?

Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.

I've installed amarok from epel, however the xine-lib in epel does not support MP3 playback. The one in RPMForge does, and I found several instructions that one needs to add both the epel- and rpmforge-repositories to make it work. However when I add both installation failes due to unresolved dependencies. Apparantly epel's amarok does not support rpmforge's xine-lib anymore and insists on installing its own xine-lib
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm stuck in an ugly situation where I *have* to upgrade some packages to newer versions than what yum provides. For example, the latest openssh-server is 4.3 and I need 4.4 or higher.
Obviously I can compile the packages I need myself, but are there any sort of "best practices" to avoid making too much of a mess? Should I be installing stuff side-by-side with both versions? Anything distro-specific to keep in mind when building?

I am unable to play audio on my computer. I'm a Debian user version 7.7 with Gnome 3.14.1 desktop environment. Have you tried installing alsa, pulseaudio, jack, esound, gstreamer, pavucontrol, anyway, a whack of things.

I am unable to play audio CDs. I have 2 CD drives and upon insertion of of a CD into the top drive, it notices the CD and asks what I want to do... Play with Kaffeine results in it opening, but then nothing happens. When I do the same thing with the CD in the bottom drive, it plays the first track of the CD but nothing else. Every time. With different CDs.

I've Got one Problem with My Computer soon after success installation of when the boot-loader ask me to choose OS at CENTOS 5.4, multi boot boot-loader if i choose windows then computer tries to boot windows but fail and give the error message that there is a problem on reading the hard disk, But when i restart it and start with LINUX then computer start successful with no error message, now i do not know what to do cause i need to use Windows and all my programs are in windows..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI used Openshot to produce a slideshow, and K3b to burn a DVD with the output from Openshot which is a .vob file.
The DVD plays on my new model, cheap Samsung DVD player. It comes up on the TV screen listed as an MPG. I hit play, it plays fine.
But on other peoples older DVD players it says NO DISK. It will not play.
Is there a way to take the .vob file I produced with Openshot and convert it or something so when K3b burns it to a DVD it will play on older DVD players?
Maybe vob can be converted into something, then burned with k3b so the resulting DVD is compatible with more, older DVD players??
i tried to play videos with 3 players, while trying to move the player's window or go to full screen ubuntu crashes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThere is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem playing MIDI files on my system: I tried opening two MIDI files in Audacious, VLC, Aqualung and Rhythmbox, and Rhythmbox is the only one that will play them:
- Audacious crashes when clicking on the file in the playlist (immediately disappears)
- Aqualung doesn't add them to its playlist
- VLC produces an error msg saying it can't play MIDI
- Rhythmbox plays a MIDI file and immediately crashes at its end
I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 64 and have timidity installed.
I made a backup of some mp3 and ogg files onto a a DVD. I had to re-install my OS and now need these backup files. The files show up on the file navigator and show appropriate file sizes but they are not recognized by any of several players I have tried (Rhythmbox, xmms,vlc, amarok).
View 11 Replies View RelatedI can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).
I also took a snapshot of my system monitor. I am not sure what resources it is talking about?
Got my system's audio up, but I'm having a real problem keeping streaming audio going, either in VLC or in the default movie player thing.It'll go for a while and then just stop. I guess it's having a problem with "resume" function or buffering.Any thoughts on this? I'm not having that problem with VLC in XP on the same connection.
