View 5 RepliesIve been wondering, if there is a audio player for Linux similiar to Foobar. The only thing Im searching for is the ability to sort media library by folder structure. If you know something that can do the job, let me know... Im also searching for easy, intuitive text editor, like Notepad++. I use it for working in school and i just love the way it handles "tab" spaces, and bullet lists.

In the room here are 3 computers with outputs through a Behringer mixer to a Sony surround sound system--it sounds better plus I dont have the spider web of a separate sound system for each machine. 11.2-64 has been excellent so far with the exception of the music player--Amorak. Someone decided to leave out any sound contour tools. I also have Banshee and MPlayer but have experienced various problems with them. Amorak, at least for my use isnt too lame but whoever "They" are decided to do away with the graphic eq.I like the ability to build playlists with Amorak which is missing in some other programs without an exercise in file system manipulation. Any one have suggestions?? One note I will add here is that in Windows 7 64 bit professional, which I am forced to use because of no software for my work written in Linux, running on another machine here-- someone had what I consider the really excellent idea of incorporating a graphic equalizer on the machine output under the Realtek audio package..one eq to control all sounds from that machine--anything like that available for SUSe??

I love foobar 2000 but I'm always trying to shy away from windows apps. What are your recommendations as "good" replacements for foobar 2000? So far I have tried:
Amarok - Crashes all the time, and keeps saying it can't play mp3s. Used to love this app, but seems broken for me now. Even if I reinstall it.
Rhythmbox - Great, but reports the wrong bitrate on all my songs. It is very important for me to know the correct bitrate for uploading to certain sites.
Audacious - Way to simple and winamp like.
Bangarang - No.
I've been trying to use Wine to make Foobar work in Linux. The program does work, but it doesn't make a sound. For the rest, is works perfectly. I'm having the same problem with any Flash application I try to run: everything works, but without a sound. Amarok, however, doesn't have this problem.Somewhere I found that such problem might be related to Pulseaudio. So I tried going on the Pulseaudio configuration under "other" in the sound panel in YaST, but it tells me that Pulseaudio is not installed or cannot be configurated. I tried installing the package via Terminal, but it tells me that patterns-openSUSE-kde4_pure-11.3-22.1.x86_64 conflicts with pulseaudio given by pulseaudio-0.9.21-10.1.1.x86_64. I would have to delete it, if I wanted to install pulseaudio. Now I don't know where to put my hands. I am not good at this I'm not even sure I would solve my trouble installing pulseaudio, anyway. I'm using a sony vaio VPCEA3C4E with openSUSE 11.3 KDE installed trough USB key.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?
in software.opensuse.org site if we serch for a software the result will be like the following
vlc

I shut down my Ubuntu 10.04 (recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 to 10.04) and moved it to another location with a different monitor, keyboard, mouse. When I booted, a screen came up stating:
Quote: The disk drive for /mnt/foobar is not ready yet or not present. Continue to wait; or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery
I was wondering what exactly happens when I do apt-get --download-only? I have early morning unlimited download hours and I used them today to download a huge number of packages with 'apt-get install foobar --download-only'. Once the packages were downloaded it ended with a message indicating that it has only downloaded the packages. Later I tried to install the same packages using 'apt-get install foobar' and was prompted to download 300MB all over again. I then tried 'apt-get install foobar -no-download', and got the same result.
This didn't yield any results:
cd /var/
find . -iname"*foobar*"
cd ~/
find . -iname"*foobar*"
What do I need to do to get it to work. I thought that I had understood how to use --download-only after reading the manpage (and pages on the net), but I'm clearly wrong.

I made the switch to all Ubuntu and I'm loving it.One of my favorite Windows features was in Windows Media Player. If I added an audio track to WMP, I could search within WMP (using internet) to find the album info.It was something like, right-click, "Find album info"

The other reason is AVS Video Converter, I've fallen in love with it, it converts anything to anything quickly and flawlessly, but I want an alternative to it for Ubuntu, something that works flawlessly just like AVS, to refine my needs more, I use it to convert video for my PSP.

On my other machine it works, but I cannot do apt-get dist-upgrades as it spews forth messages like, "insserv: Starting nxsensor depends on stop-bootlogd and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!".So I give up on them.
