Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get VLC Player To Open Only One Window?
May 14, 2010
To get to the point, when viewing a video in fullscreen, I notice that the initial VLC window remains open under the fullscreen video output. Sometimes the initial video window is under the fullscreen output causes a bit of screen tearing. How do I enable VLC that when in fullscreen mode, only it opens, to be together with the main interface instead of two windows running? Im not sure that im making sense but this does not happen in Windows. I want a similar function here in Ubuntu.
My Banshee Media Player just crashed, the window to force quit didn't appear, so I opened a terminal and typed "ps aux | grep banshee" to close it using the kill command. I got this output
Code:
As you can see in the 3082 line, the path says /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.exe... I didn't knew I was backporting Wine to run banshee.
I just installed 10.04 Ubuntu and allow the Manager Updates.
Movie Player and PitVi apps seems to disappear when I load a clip and enlarge the window.
Movie Player will allow a smaller window and the clip to be played but once I stretch the window, it disappear Nope, its not as though I "floored" that window. It's gone.completely.
PiitVi, when loading a clip, once its full loaded, it disappears.
I did try installing and re-installing but same results.
I use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Sopcast player used to work properly, but from yesterday it does not open at all. It doesnt open when I click a link or even when I try to open from the menu.
I cannot get the jack control window to open. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice and no change. I have sound but would like to get Rosegarden running with Qsynth.

I recently installed VLC media Player and have been using it as the default application to view my video files. The audio files get opened in the Movie Player(the default one). But When I open the Video files in Movie Player ,The Colour gets distorted and all videos appear bluish in colour. Also the same thing happens when I open a video file in VLC after opening on the audio files in movie player (The colour gets distorted and appears bluish).
I installed Fedora 12 recently. The Open multimedia installed by default does not play DVDs. It stops with the error " Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc. "
I recently upgraded the motherboard/processor on my computer (as in quadrupled the processor and octupled the ram). The new board has a built in GPU (intel) and from searching the forums, I think this is part of the problem. Every time I boot up the computer, I need to open the Compiz icon and use it to reload the window manager before I see any title bars, borders, etc. 've tried the .bashrc hack (metacity --replace), but that doesn't do anything. In fact, whenever I open the terminal, I need to have two tabs open in order to use it, and when I close it all the borders go away again (even when I haven't done anything). Also, the onboard sound card (intel) doesn't work, but that's another task (I at least have a compatible card for that).
My system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
So when I click Places in the Main Menu and then any directory like Desktop or Documents or Pictures the Movie Player starts, and all the files that the directory contains are in the playlist. The only way around is to click Computer which would bring me into the file manager as normal.
I have Ubuntu 10.10. I have installed VLC video player. When I go to places, and then hit Documents, or(music, pictures, downloads). It will open the VLC player with a pop up error.
Error Message when I hit Documents: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
Error Message when I hit pictures: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
No error message when I hit music: But it open's up the same song all the time.
No error message when I hit video: I just opens up like it's suppose to!
I was trying to make it my default player. All I did was right mouse click on my folders, but I remember selecting anything!
When I un-install VLC player everything works fine.
Crystal Player has one very good playback speed troubleshooting feature - it uses large buffer of decoded frames (about 50% of RAM). Is there any player with such features in ubuntu?
I have a DVD with a error located at a certain time. Each time I watch the DVD and then come to that point Movie Player (or vlc player) returns a error. Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip - FFMPEG - Acidripper - Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?
When playing coyright protected DVD's in Ubuntu 10.10: the following errors occur:Movie Player Error message:Error occured Could not read from resourceVLC media Player Error essage:Playback failure:DVDRead could not read block 0.Non copyright protected DVD's play fine
I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?
in software.opensuse.org site if we serch for a software the result will be like the following

I have Suse 11.4 and GNOME 2.32.1 When I click on Computer -> Places -> Home then VLC Media Player opens instead of the window with my home folder that should actually pop up. The same thing happens with all other icons in the Places tab.
I want to run Evolution at starup, but want to place it out of the way on the opposite side of the Compiz cube. In KDE, you can run a command like this:
Code:
kstart --desktop 3 evolution
Is there an equivalent for GNOME/Compiz? I would preferably like to avoid using anything like Devilspie.
How do i take a screenshot without an open window? The 'Print Scrn' does not return the usual pop up window that asks me where i want to put the picture.

Why is it that the Add Remove Program Window won't stay open in 9.10? I added a few Video Programs. It was working fine, but now I can't remove any Programs. The Window will open for a few seconds, but then closes.

I don't know it's so difficult to make it work. I'm in natty and can't find anyway to make it work. I tried all options posted in this forum but nothing. I only want to open a new window but login into a different user. It is easy and ready under Linux Mint Debian, but I use Ubuntu.
I am having trouble getting NS2 to open the nam window. I have used it before in the same settings, but that was a year ago. It doesn't work now for some reason. I keep getting the error: No protocol specified nam: couldn't connect to display ":0.0". This worked fine a year ago and nothing has changed. I am running it remotely from my school network just like I did then. I am also using a bash shell.
