OpenSUSE :: Banshee 1.5.2 Crashes On Selecting Import Media In 11.2
Jan 9, 2010
I'm running banshee 1.5.2 on opensuse 11.2 (x64) with KDE 4.3.1 release 6. Each time I select the Import Media option banshee simply crashes. I have reinstalled/upgraded banshee from scratch but still get the same issue. Here is what I see in the debug (banshee-1 --debug) log at the point of the crash.

I can get music from cds into banshee, but when i try to import media from my library in the music folder nothing happens except banshee reports its scanning for a couple of seconds but nothing is imported into banshee,
Each time when I start Banshee Media Player it crashes or I get the error message fatal error, I want to know what occurred to Banshee Media of being in a such state and what could I do to fix this problem.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently upgraded Banshee Media Player which I had been using for months no problem. I'm not sure what version I was using before and I'm not sure what version I'm using now. I assume 1.8.0 or higher. Here's what I get when I type 'banshee' into the terminal:
Trying to use banshee to import music into Creative zen mp3 players but a pop up says 'import to library is not implemented for MTP devices yet'. Anyone know how to fix this?
I have a Sansa mini-clip MP3 player. Now that I am using Ubuntu I wanted to totally redo my play lists. So using the Sansa menu, I formatted the MP3 player to start fresh. Then I opened Rythmbox and was going to import my MP3 files from my hard drive. Only problem is all of my MP3 files are grayed out on the import files menu. Then I installed Banshee and tried to import the MP3 files and they are grayed out in that program too.
why my MP3 files won't import into Rythmbox or Banshee?
I just noticed Banshee is the new default player in Natty so I decided to move over my music and radio stations. The media import worked for my few mp3s (only have a couple on here) I have but my radio stations did not import. Since I mostly listen to the radio while on the computer (ipod when I am not), I bit the bullet and recreated all my radio stations by hand.
Most worked but a few of my favorites do not.BBC World Service did not work so I launched Rhythmbox since it is still installed and BBC and the other stations played fine.Searching around the net it looks like Banshee had problems with BBC before since it is an .asx type link but that was supposed to be fixed in one of the 1.x releases.I found Vermont Public Radio hosts BBC World in a different format but my other stations are out of luck unless I stick with RB for now.
i tried to install banshee media player using zypper but it gives me this problem

Second problem my cd writer is kinda out of order so i followed this guide (Live USB stick - openSUSE) to make a live usb stick to try out other distros...... everything went well....dd wrote everything properly.....but when i try to boot, it says thats it is a non-system disk and says to replace it strike again....so basically its not working.....
i think i followed all the instructions in the guide properly....but still i am pasting it over here (the drive was given as sdb...i checked using ls -l) umount /dev/sdb dd if=/home/arkadeep/LinuxMint-8.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M;sync i used linuxmint..... yeah so dd writes everything and the size is also correct. so now i can't figure out what to do...
I'm having a very frustrating issue with F-spot Photo Manager, version 0.8.0-1. I've scanned the forums for days but have not happened upon a solution thus far. The application always crashes after importing photos --without moving the original files-- and will continue to crash after repeated attempts to launch the application. The only suitable work-around to open F-spot again is to delete the config folder in /home/username/.config/f-spot. But I can't seem to be able to "import" any photos into the library without the same process repeating itself. I've tried "importing" photos with "Detect Duplicates" turned off, but the same process occurs. Here is the output when launching F-spot from the terminal:
[Info 17:14:20.634] Initializing Mono.Addins Exception in Gtk# callback delegate Note: Applications can use GLib.ExceptionManager.UnhandledException to handle the exception. I've tried to eliminate all the different variables I can think of, but I haven't found a solution. This issue is present not only in Ubuntu, but also in openSuse 11.3 and Linux Mint 10.
I have a playlist of 634 tracks that I export to a file. I then try to import that same file and only 627 tracks get imported into the created playlist. The 7 tracks that are missing are:
#EXTINF:125,Elvis Presley - Don't Be Cruel ../../../../media/LinuxHD/Music/Elvis Presley/Elv1s 30 #1 Hits/02. Don't Be Cruel.mp3 #EXTINF:189,Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight? ../../../../media/LinuxHD/Music/Elvis Presley/Elv1s 30 #1 Hits/16. Are You Lonesome Tonight_.mp3
The first time I opened banshee in 11.04 it didn't load up all my music files. I went to rescan the music library to bring them up and it froze my system.Upon restarting I tried opening banshee again and it crashed. The details are below. My previous experience with banshee are not all that great. Is there a way to make this work better or a way to remove it from 11.04 all together?Error Details:Encountered a Fatal ErrorException has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

When I try to play anything in banshee it crashes with the error:

Same thing happens with Listen and Rhythmbox, but with a segmentation fault.
Amarok doesn't even get past the splash screen, but that's more or less okay because I'd rather stick with gnome.
Guayadeque is the only decent music player that works, and even it isn't without its issues. Audacious also works, but I don't like Audacious(the whole "one big playlist" system... ew).
Of course if I had my way I'd skip gnome music players entirely and go with foobar2000, but wouldn't you know it, that doesn't work either. [URL]
I'm using 10.04 beta, but these problems were present on 9.10 too.
every time I try to try to update my library, banshee keeps crashing. It started after I relocated where my mp3 files are and changed the path in banshee too. I tried deleting the banshee folder under my home folder and removing and reinstalling banshee, but the problem persisted. This is the when it is run from terminal:

I temporarily fixed this by disabling all extensions, reenabling them, then restarting Banshee, but the problem came back a few minutes later.

Has anyone been trying or playing with Banshee and the Mirage plug-in? I set it up to do a media scan, and I'm looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 18hrs now and it's still going.... More importantly, when this is complete, and I add some new music, will the scan just hit the new tracks, or will it go through the whole library again? If you have any experience with this please fill me in if you can.
After installing and gradually becoming familiar with OpenSUSE v11.2 [Gnome], I've been casually trying to get acquainted with the Bash shell and its commands. However, for this problem I thought it would be more appropriate to log in here, since this issue is a bit more serious. Accordingly, I'm afraid that I must once again prevail upon the helpful, patient, knowledgeable Linux users in this forum for assistance. As a retiree and a doting grandfather, I enjoy the luxury and time to take numerous videos of my children and grandchildren, and one of the features to which I've become spoiled in Windows is the ability to play a wide variety of video formats. Unfortunately, "out of the box", Banshee appears to refuse to play any of them. Somehow, using YaST, I was able to get online flash video to work by downloading and installing recommended packages, and it worked the first time after re-booting my system! However, I'm not having as much luck with installing video codecs that I apparently need to play my own video files. I wish these codecs had come pre-installed on the OpenSUSE disc that I burned, but you can't always get what you want. [Wasn't that the title of a 60's or 70's Rolling Stones song?]
I guess where I need help, specifically, is in determing where to get and how to install the best free video player and a comprehensive codec package that will work reliably in OpenSUSE. Would some kind soul out there be able to take me by the hand and show me, step by step, exactly what I must do to achieve this goal? I was hoping to be able to use the automatic package installer, but when I tried it, I noticed diagnostics informing me that I lacked certain dependencies, and that I should install manually, which I assume requires using the command line. I have no objection to trying this, if someone would be kind enough to show me exactly how. I really would like to be able to watch my grandchildren playing without having to depend upon one of my Windows systems.
Banshee have crashed 3 times 'til now when I try to change the volume inside the program. It happened only 3 times, but now I'm afraid to change the volume and change it directly with the speaker's controls. One more question. When banshee crashes, all the system gets freezed. I tried with the console (CTRL+ALT+F1) but I don't know how to kill the banshee process.
I just started having a problem tonight with Banshee. Whenever I click on some of my playlists, Banshee crashes. Can anyone tell me where I would find the error log for this so that I can fix it?
I just got a Samsung U5, and although I could drag and drop, it's not as good as syncing. I've tried using both rhythmbox and banshee to sync my music from a playlist. It only happens when I set it to MTP, that both programs tend to crash. If I set it to MCS none of them will even detect the device, but will both work fine as music players. So far, rhythmbox just freezes and won't let me do anything with the device. Banshee only syncs half of the music files and comes up with this error. LIBMTP_Send_Track_From_File_Descripto():subcall to LIBMTP_Send_FIle_From_File failed I've tried several times and it'll only add a couple of more songs.
Everytime Banshee tries to switch songs from a local folder it crashes with. I have tried completely removing it and reinstalling but that did nothing. Here is what I get when I run it from a terminal.

Just upgraded to 10.10 NBR. Every time I launch banshee it crashes within seconds of opening. I tried nuking ~/.config/banshee-1 and the problem persists.Output from banshee --debug:

I used to be able to sync my music with HTC Hero and Banshee, but when I upgraded to 2.1 quite a while back banshee seems to crash. I now have a Nexus One (Android 2.2) and that does the same. (no longer have the Hero). They both seem to crash Banshee when it gets to syncing the playlists (every time), music syncs fine. Does anyone else on 2.1 or 2.2 have this problem or is it just me? (been doing searches every now and then since the Hero update but cant find anything).
After some time I was trying to use banshee media player. I am given an error message: Banshee Encountered a Fatal Error Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. The OS is Squeeze and the machine is a Netbook with Intel Atom inside.
All the three files I downloaded can not been played by Banshee. I got the message like below when I use search the code, so I installed all the Gstreamer I can find.
* Windows Media decoder (GStreamer, 32 bit, i586) * Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) demuxer (GStreamer, 32 bit, i586)
During that I also did some update, but the problem still the same.
My Banshee Media Player just crashed, the window to force quit didn't appear, so I opened a terminal and typed "ps aux | grep banshee" to close it using the kill command. I got this output
Code:
As you can see in the 3082 line, the path says /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.exe... I didn't knew I was backporting Wine to run banshee.
