Ubuntu Multimedia :: Want To Extract Music With More Options
Jan 1, 2010
I want to extract *aka rip *aka import songs from my CD to my computer. In two different formats, one being lossless format (FLAC) and lossy format (MP3).I want control over the kbps in the lossy format and I also want to remove the licensing as this creates problems when trying to copy the songs over to my mobile device. And of course, include the metadata while extracting.
This all seems fairly simple right?Well, whenever I am extracting the songs from different applications it seems like I have no control over the preferences of the application or the extracting process. There's just a start button and that's it.I have tried the "Sound-Juicer" and "Banshee".Defaults settings for Sound-Juicer extracts at 128 kbps and Banshee extracts at 160 kbps only in ogg format. In the past I have done all my cd extracting in Windows, and I would really like to move over to linux in this field.I used Winamp back in the day and was really happy with the PRO version of it. Lame Mp3 Encoder with Winamp Pro.
IS there a program in ubuntu that extracts individual songs from album and label and tags them. i have just got 200 GB of music from a friend, but the albums are 1 full Mp3 file so it just runs right thru each song non stop. no individual song files what program can i use to convert album into individual song files and keep them together in a album. i found one that runs on windoze, but was wantiing to know if ubuntu has one. the windoze one is called Alba Extractor
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.
I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.
It appears I thought I was taking photo's with my Nikon CoolpixS5 but they are saved as .mov files. When I watch file, I see the picture, and then it's over in a second. How can I extract the image from the .MOV file? If it's of any relevance I used digikam to recognise my camera.
I would like to know how to demux the audio from a flash video file (copied from /tmp while browsing a video site). I would prefer to avoid re encoding if possible.
I use F-spot and Shotwell to extract photos AND videos that I made with my Canon EOS 500 or my Lumix.Actually the pics are extracted correcly but the videos are just consider as a pic and the pic is the first pic of the video. Is there any F-spot equivalent that extract everything from the camera?
I added a song to my basket and when I click Checkout....it just stays on this message "Connecting you to the Ubuntu One Music Store..." and does nothing.
I recently downloaded vlc to my Linux OS distro Ubuntu 10.10. player, but am unable to skin it. I have dl'd several packages and they will not extract, even from root. Every time I attempt to extract the .vlt files from zip, I briefly see the extraction progress bar followed by this error: "An error occurred while extracting files."
I have two video files (Xvid) and would like to combine the video from one of these with the audio track of the other, in order to create a new video file.
This is somewhat complicated by the fact that I would like the resulting audio to be a mixture of the two original audio tracks, for instance, during some time segments, I would like to switch from one to the other, but the video should always be the same.
Another issue that complicates the things is that the two audio tracks have different bit rates, and when I briefly managed to merge the two, one of the audio tracks was playing much faster than the other. To clarify, the audio tracks should not overlap but just be played at the different time during the video playback.
I am trying to do this by using Audacity. The problem is that I am fairly new to Audacity and I have not been able to find any info in their user guides regarding this specific issue.
So I have the burned ubuntu CD, and I'm attempting to install it on a system that has one HDD with XP/Vista on it, and another that is completely formatted and unpartitioned. However, when I boot to the ubuntu CD, I can use the menus from the bottom, and select the language when initially prompted, but I can't select any of the menu options except for boot from first hard drive.
I can play nearly any video format on my pc because I have loaded all of the nessessary software. But what about tvs? I loaded some videos onto my flash drive and then I inserted it into the usb port of a LCD tv. Nothing on the drive would play. I assume it is because tv have a limited number of formats that they will play. Now, if I intend to download videos and convert them so that they will play on a tv, what are my best options for..
I'm using an Intel 965 GM graphics chip with the "intel" driver. I'm curious as to why it doesn't seem to be using any of the options that I'm placing under the Device section of xorg.conf. Here's an example:
In my Xorg.0.log file, I get the following message: (WW) intel(0): Option "AccelMethod" is not used Why would it not be allowing me to use options such as this? I know that my driver and video card are compatible with this option, as is indicated in this manual: [URL]
I am a first time user and recently installed 9.10 from a LiveCd then immediately upgraded to 10.04 LTS. I had no black screen problem, but my resolution is stuck at 640x480 with no other options. I upgraded my driver to NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.31 and the resolution remains the same. I have a Geforce GTS 250 and an Acer H233H capable of 1920x1080_75.

I have tried entering a CVT generated modeline to the xorg file but it did nothing.
I have installed ubunto on an old PC with minimal hardware resources. I cannot play or even see a music cd. I go to places-computer- and see the floppy drive, files system hard drive, and the cd drive. When I insert the music cd the cd drive disappears. It sees a data cd just fine.
I'm dying to try out music on console -moc but can't seem to find a ppa for it. I've searched synaptic and found an moc package, installed it, and no luck.
I just installed Banshee v1.80 on Ubuntu 10.10 and was looking to import my music from my external HD. I pluged the HD in and copied all of the music in it to my music folder, (ALL 2,604 SONGS).I then went into banshee and set the folder for my music library to be /home/matt/Music, where i put THE 2,604 SONGS.Banshee started to scan the songs, all the way up through THE 2,604th. After it was finished i navigated to all music in the banshee side pane and there was only 394.
After some research i found that this was because only 394 of the songs actually had .mp3 or a similar extension at the end of the file name.I've spent the past hour trying to figure out how to either append the appropriate extension to all the files, or how to get banshee to see the files without any extension, to no avail.
Which music player should I use? I heard that some music players have difficulties playing certain types of music files. Is there a music player that has the fewest issues when it comes to playing music files?
(1) I'm wondering if there is a way to have abcde play the songs while it is encoding? I understand that this would be a lot slower.
(2) Is it possible to have abcde start playing right after it finishes ripping the first track and then have it add on the other tracks to the playlist as it rips them.
Is there anyway to do one or both of these from the command line or with abcde's built-in options?
I have recently got a new car, which as a USB port to connect either an iPOD or Storage Device. For some reason I decided to get a portable 500GB HDD to put my music on. When you plug in an iPOD you get the nice options to search by genre, artist, etc. You don't get this option with a storage device, just the option to go through the folders. The car stereo will read playlists. I'm wondering whether there's an easy way to create playlists so I get these options:
Artists > Artists A-D Artists > Artists E-G etc
Genre > Genre A-D etc
I know rhythmbox can do this manually (as can iTunes) but surely there's an easier way. I'm planning to keep adding more music so an automated process would be nice to keep the playlists refreshed. Where the playlists are saved onto my HDD rather than having to save them one by one.
I've just bought a new rig. The graphics card (as listed in the title) is a ATI Radeon HD 5830. With the normal out of the box drivers I can get a resolution of 1366x768 (The native resolution of my 32inch panel) but the 3D performance isn't good. With the ATI proprietary drivers installed 1366x768 isn't in the options (The ATI menu and the normal one)So I need to generate an xorg.conf and add the resolution?[edit] OK so I checked to see if the 3D performance was any better with the proprietary drivers (despite the funky resolution) and it caused Minecraft (The only game I really play under Linux) to freeze on startup. I think what I'll do is stick with the Radeon Open Source driver (which runs all the visual effects nicely anyway) and just do all my gaming in Windows
On 9.04 using rythymbox i had no dramas upgraded to 9.10 and started trying different music players, songbird being the latest i copied my family's entire cd collection - about 250 cd's i have added another 150 album's by download, so about 400 albums but Rbox tells me i have 600 albums and 16000 tracks!!!!!!! Some of my music file have multiplied so much so that some albums have 8 copies of each track mp3 and .ogg in equal numbers i have searched preference setttings in all music players but find nothing what i want to know is, Is there a program that gets rid of the duplicates i tried songbird to get rid of ghost tracks and duplicates but it just freezes, i even left it "running" or frozen or whatever for 3 days
