(1) I'm wondering if there is a way to have abcde play the songs while it is encoding? I understand that this would be a lot slower.
(2) Is it possible to have abcde start playing right after it finishes ripping the first track and then have it add on the other tracks to the playlist as it rips them.
Is there anyway to do one or both of these from the command line or with abcde's built-in options?
Any relatively easy user guide for the built in command line ftp program?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a hard time trying to print documents to PDF via cups-pdf at the command line and get all of the nice formatting options that the GUI print spooler dialogs provide. I know how to do "lpr -P Generic-CUPS-PDF-Printer filename" to get a general file printed to a PDF, but this method clearly is missing all of the nice formattingptions that get passed when using a GUI print spooler (margins, fonts, dpi, paper size, etc..). I tried to use ps to capture whatever command is being sent by the spooler but couldn't figure it out, since I'm not really sure what commands get called by the spooler

I have an executable with input options, like so:

I've added gcov to the makefiles (compiling with --coverage, -fprofile-arcs, and -ftest-coverage, and linking with -lgcov). It builds fine and creates executable.gcno.
When I try to run gcov, gcov things the options belong to it:

When I use quotes this happens:

The command line options must remain. How can I get gcov to generate the same .gcno file it later looks for?
I recently finished ripping my CD collection. Some of the files don't play; VLC and other players can run them, but there's no sound. Running oggz-validate shows errors like this: granulepos 0 on page with no completed packets (I didn't know about oggz-validate when I was ripping, otherwise I'd have checked as I went.) I can't see a pattern: with some CDs it's the whole CD, with others, just some tracks.
I pretty much ran with the default abcde options. I upped the quality at one point, but dropped it back again. Before I replace the bad files, does anyone have any advice on what to do or avoid? I've tried googling the error, but haven't found anything useful.
I have used abcde with lots of success in the past and I always grab the a config file off the net (I think andrew's web page or something).
Anyways, I went to rip a few cd's to OGG today and my quality setting is: OGGENCOPTS='-q 6' but when I play the ogg's (using audacious or gnome player) the kbs always shows 112. I know OGG is not a bitrated encoder, but rather uses quality levels 1-10 (I think?), but I always got ~192kbs using quality level 6, but now it does not seem so.
Anyone know of something I might be overlooking her, perhaps something not quite set right... here is the confg I am using in my home dir... actually I did notice there is an /etc/abcde.conf file, but all options are commented out. I wonder if perhaps there is another abcde.conf file being used somewhere and not the one i created in ~/.abcde. I think that is how the file should be named; does that look right does anyone know?

New to Debian I installed ABCDE for ripping my CDs. My question is stupid but I could not sort this situation even going through the web or documentation. It works fine now BUT... when ABCDE retrieve multiple playlists (#1, #2, #3, etc.) it show them then ends with (END) blinking at the bottom of the terminal. If I make a RETURN I get nothing. If I type EXIT it shows "No next tag (press RETURN)" but RETURN has no effect !
When there is only ONE playlist (or no playlist available to retrieve) it works really fine.ce.

How do I save it as a jpg somewhere on my puter using a script? I can wget, but it gets saved as a .evif, which is totally useless. I can right-click on the image in a browser and use the context menu to save it as a jpg, but I want this process automated. How can I DL this image and save it as a jpg? GIMP's CL options don't include the capacity to save/convert this image, though it's possible from teh GUI. ImageMagick won't read this dynamic URL. What do I do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanted to share this nifty technique I came across for capturing video using the command line. The problem: I have a bunch of old VHS tapes (remember those...?) and need to get them digitized. I have a VCR, and a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge which captures video to DV over Firewire (IEEE1394). I first tried using Final Cut Pro, but it wouldn't capture, perhaps because it expects a controllable DV camera, and the Dazzle isn't a DVC device. I then tried my other favorite video editing app, Kdenlive, but it seemed to have the same problem.
I took a quick stab at the other common editors in the repositories (Kino, Openshot, etc.), but no luck with any of them. Then I remembered the dvgrab command, and gave that a shot and it worked, giving me a nice .dv file. However, DV makes pretty big files, which I wanted to compress down to something more manageable. Since I was going to be digitizing hours and hours of tapes, it would be great if I could compress while capturing. A little more googling and I had the answer - you can pipe dvgrab directly into ffmpeg! Here's the command:

the first part starts the capture, in DV1 format, and outputs it to a pipe file. usually you give dvgrab a filename, like

-f dv: use DV format
-i -: input from the pipe
-b 2000k: video encoding bitrate of 2000k/sec, high quality
-ab 512k: audio encoding bitrate
-y: overwrite file if it exists
I didn't set the codec explicitly, for Quicktime it defaults to MPEG4. This worked great, capturing a 2-hour tape into a high-quality quicktime around 2GB. But I also wanted to be able to view the capture while it was going. Since I left the field monitors and audio splitters at the office, I had to figure out how to do this in software. Turns out that the "tee" command does exactly what I needed - the shell never ceases to amaze! Here's the full command:

It works fine. but everytime I reboot there is no sound, I have to go to sound preferences, hardware tab, select my internal audio device, change it from digital stereo duplex to analog surround 5.1, then back to digital stereo duplex, and then the sound works again. I would like to be able to do this via command line so I can write a little startup script and not have to do that every time i reboot.
