I know this sounds like a really silly question, but I'm very new to using ubuntu. I was going to post this in the multimedia and video category but I noticed that the threads are very dead there.Anyway, I have a Canon Vixia HF10 digital camcorder, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to transfer my video off of it on to my computer. When I connect it via USB the computer sees the camcorder, but even after navigating through every folder I cannot find my video. I don't know if I'm missing a driver, or if there's something simple I can do in the terminal to transfer my videos, but I'm literally pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhave setup a LAMP server with ubuntu 10.04 server edition x86 for my study in VMware Workstation 7.1 For a assignment I had to make a php script that would load a file up to the server and set the name in a mysql database. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.
This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to sync my iPhone (3G, 3.1.2) through Rhythmbox on my newly installed Lucid Lynx. While I can access and transfer music files to my iPhone, upon unmounting the iPhone doesn't update the library nor show the music. If I remount it in Rhythmbox, I can play the files from there. In my file manager I can access my iPhone, but I can't either see the iPod_Control directory nor find anything in Music or Playlists folders. BTW, on Karmic Koala I was able to update music on my iPhone, though it would not always update library.

I've installed ifuse and can browse the contents but i cannot transfer any music in a way that the iPhone frecognizes it and is able to play it. I've seen a couple of comprehensive (very long) guides to sync iphone wireless w ubuntu, however im only interested in connecting the iPhone with usb and copy music to it is there any quick/easy way to do this? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a rather strange problem and it surfaced just recently. Most likely it has something to do with switching from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10.
When I upload music to my iPhone 3gs with iOS 3.1.3 (7E1 it shows in iTunes, however the phone skips over the music. This does not happen to songs I uploaded via rhythmbox two weeks ago.
For a test purposes I deleted the old songs from the iPhone and tried to put them on again. Now I cannot listen to them as well. At least I know it has nothing to do with the used mp3 coding.
I even can use the iPhone as a harddrive for that music and play music from their through rhythmbox.
The song list shows the right sizes on the iPhone.
It is save to say that the data is transfered and the music database is updated. So there must be a strange error in detecting the length of the songs which would point to a problem in updating the iPhone database. However, I cannot be sure, because the phone is not reporting any errors.
I have just received my iphone 4 16gb, I had already looked into a work around for the whole itunes inside linux issue and instead opted for gtkpod ipod manager which works a treat for my music however I have no way of converting and putting movies on my phone.
Previously I would have used Handbrake to do my video conversions however the new version download on their site doesnt work with 10.10 for some reason and both handbrake and gtk gui are missing when I look in the ubuntu software updates.

What's a good program in Linux/Ubuntu to convert any video file to .mp4 for an iPod/iPhone?
I have an iPhone 3GS with Firmware 3.1.3 and I'd like to sync the music over rhythmbox in lucid (64bit).
The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.

I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a server on my desktop that has a folder of videos converted to iPhone formats that I can access with my iPhone over the internet to stream videos to my phone?I started by setting up a server and used no-ip2 to create a domain name so I didn't have to worry about my dynamic ip changing.Then I tried unsuccessfully to transcode a DVD to iPhone format using Arista, Transmaggedon, and Avidemux, none of which I could get to properly work.

I've achieved photo sync, internet tethering, and ssh access, but I don't know about music access.. there doesn't seem to be anything happening between rhythmbox and the iphone.
Rhythmbox regocnizes the phone and plays the music on it... but I can't seem to make any changes to that music.
The phone occasionally says "sync in progress" but I haven't pushed any "sync" button as there doesn't seem to be any or any settings for automatic syncing...
I am trying to get video streaming working to my iphone. I have everything working fine using Handbrake to convert to .m4v. I takes a 2.2gig and compresses it down to about 550 megs. Then I am just posting a link to a web page for now for the iphone to open.
It all works but after about 4 - 5 mins of video it needs to buffer. Is there anything I can do when encoding them to help? or is there some kind of video staging server that can be used?

(i can see photos and music from my phone, i tried to paste some photos in a certain folder and went well, just in ONE folder).
i tried almost all instructions i can find on net, but nothing is working well. i even freshly installed my ubuntu, thinking that i did something wrong in my first attempt. still cant sync music and photos.
i transferred songs already to my phone using itunes in windows (on another laptop). they said that doing this can initialize my iphone, but it didnt work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI tend to buy music on my iPod touch directly, then synchronize it with iTunes later. After goofing around with Rythembox by trying (unsuccessfully) to import some mp3s onto my iPod, I noticed that my recently purchased 'Fame Monster' Lady Gaga album would not synchronize with iTunes, although the music was still playable and indexed correctly on the ipod itself. I also noticed that Rhythembox can't seem to find that album either. It is quite strange.
So I browsed around the file structure on the ipod to try to hunt down these m4a files and found them in a folder called 'Purchases' - they were all there along with a few other recent purchases. These m4a files are different though - they don't seem to have any of the audio tracks' meta-data embedded in the files themselves, that info is instead in associated 'plist' files that are just xml files with all the info about the tracks you'd expect.
When you sync an ipod touch with itunes, it copies your 'on-the-go' generated playlists - so I tried to trick itunes into finding these files by adding my gaga album to a playlist, but sure enough after synching, that playlist simply disappeared. I tried it again, but this time also adding other songs that are not having any problems, and sure enough the playlist was successfully copied to itunes... SANS any of the gaga tracks! This is so weird.
So basically I have these tracks that are paid for, not cheap might I add, that are playable on my ipod touch, but simply refuse to synchronize with itunes. Why not just grab it m4a off the ipod directly? Well thats true, they play on my computer just fine that way, but the files don't have any of the album and track information embedded...
I am trying to get my iphone working with Rhythmbox. I have followed the wiki but I fail at the point of creating the sysinfoextended. I can mount the phone in PCmanFM and read the data on the partition but it doesn't show in Ryhthmbox. Has anyone else managed this?

This is not directly for me since I don't have an iPhone. it opens automatically with DigiKam he said and that's the only available option in the device manager. All he can do is download photos from the phone. He is running openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.4.2.
