Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee Produces Two Songs When Ripping CD?

Jun 24, 2010

When ripping a CD, Banshee produces two songs in my library for each track on the CD. Both songs point to the same file in my Music folder (so just one actual file). Also of note, one of the songs is always a few seconds shorter than the other. I can safely remove the shorter version of each song from my library without repercussions, it's just annoying and weird.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Shuffle Songs In Banshee / Sort It?

Dec 23, 2010

I have a problem where I can't shuffle songs in Banshee Media Player. All the playback options to repeat and shuffle songs are grayed out. Makes me absolutely mad right now since I wanted to make a playlist with Christmas songs to play while decorating the Christmas tree. And I wanted the list to be played at random... no luck there.

Tried to upgrade via ppa to latest version but that didn't do the trick.

I have a fairly large music library, mostly in mp3-format. I run 10.04 LTS and Banshee 1.8.0.

Rhytmbox seems to be able to shuffle, but I am kinda used to Banshee and would like to continue using it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Manually Sort Songs On An IPod Shuffle Using Banshee?

Mar 11, 2010

I use Banshee 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10 with a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. I was thrilled when I plugged it in to see that everything worked right out-of-the-box but then I found that there's no way to manually order songs, Banshee always put an arrow in a column for you.

If you don't know much about the Shuffle, it lets you flick between 'sorted' and 'shuffled' mode. In sorted mode it plays songs in the order they are arranged in the music playlist. I like to keep classical and relaxing songs at the top of my playlist for when I can't sleep but Banshee won't let me manually organise my songs so I can't do this.

Peculiarly, when you drag songs to the Shuffle individually, though they will show up as being sorted, when you go to play them on the Shuffle they play in the order in which you dragged them. I was planning to just drag and drop over each song individually but I think there must be an easier way... I'm probably just missing something. P.S. Here's a screenshot to clarify. I synched the songs over in the order of Blur, Gorillaz, Air and Muse but they don't show as such

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Syncing IPod With Banshee Merely Copy The Songs Onto Partition?

Dec 6, 2010

A friend of mine has a 1st generation iPod touch, and wants to switch completely to linux, but is concerned how the songs currently on his iPod will be handled when he switches. He has many songs that are only on the iPod; he has purchased them from the iTunes store directly on the device, not through iTunes on his computer.

When he syncs his iPod with Banshee, will Banshee merely copy the songs onto his linux partition? Is there any chance that Banshee will remove the songs from his iPod? He obviously dosen't want to lose any of his music. A slightly lesser concern as well... will Banshee be able to play these protected files?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee / Android Sync - Cutting Songs Short

Jun 7, 2011

Since upgrading to 11.04 I have come across an issue when syncing my music to my Motorola Defy mobile phone. I have a large collection of music, the vast majority of which is ripped from CD and stored in FLAC format. I use Banshee to sync some music onto my phone by dragging and dropping. Banshee converts FLAC on-the-fly to OGG prior to copying the file to my phone.

Since installing Ubuntu 11.04 any songs that i have since synced appear to be cut short. The files seem to be of about the correct size, when the music player starts playing the track it shows the correct total length of the song in the timeline bar but the songs get cut short, usually at 5 seconds into the song but a few seem to last about a minute before skipping to the next.

This morning I tried converting files using Sound Converter and setting the Music folder on my Defy's SD Card as the destination folder. The files all appear to be of the right size, show the correct track length but only play the first 4 or five seconds. I used my other computer, also running Ubuntu 11.04, to transfer a few files and these work just fine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: CD Ripping To Mp3?

May 25, 2011

I've been doing some searching on the internet about how to rip my cd's to mp3 within ubuntu. I seem to find that LAME isn't a good way to convert the files. I saw the sticky within the forums and RubbyRipper is recommended, but the installation seemed a bit confusing to me. Everything else I found through my search was considerably old. I'm using Karmic Koala. Any suggestions? (This is also a sticking point for people I try to convince to switch over to ubuntu, btw.)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ripping Audio From Bin/cue?

Jun 7, 2010

I've got a bin/cue duo that contains 1 data track and some audio tracks I wish to rip. However, I can't get to the audio tracks. I've tried mounting the bin/cue with AcetoneISO, but it just shows me the data part. I've tried converting the files using

Code:
bchunk foo.bin foo.cue foo

and it converts to 2 files, an iso and a cdr. The .cdr file, as far as I can see, cannot be opened by anything. And so I turn to you, dear fellow Ubuntu-ers for assistance. How can I get to the audio files in the image and rip them?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ripping Certain CDs With Rubyripper GUI On 10.04?

Jan 23, 2011

I've been using the rubyripper gui on 10.04 for a while now, using my samsung se-so84 external dvd writer and I really like it. The problem is, I seem to have found that a small handful of my CDs will not rip at all. it says that it is ripping the first trial of the first track and never progresses past this. I check the files and the temporary .wav file. usually, when this file is created it is of size 44 bytes and increases to a number of MB in a matter of seconds. in the case of the albums that do not work, the file remains very small, all being 32KB, with the exception of one that is 64KB and another that remained 44 bytes. I check the log files and they all read:

Code:
STATUS
Starting to rip track 1, trial #1
Filesize is not correct! Trying another time
Starting to rip track 1, trial #1
However, this appears to be normal as I checked the log of an album that ripped correctly and it started with this.

So I tried using the command line mode and that didn't work either. the ouput was:
Code:
STATUS
Ripping progress (0 %)
Ripping track 1
Expected filesize for track 1 is 66389948 bytes.
and then it exits. in the directory, an empty temp folder has been created and the album's folder contains a log file that ends after STATUS. I tried using a CD that works on the gui and the command line did the same thing. could this be something to do with the incorrect filesize that the log showed for all CDs?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Brasero Produces Corrupt Dvd's?

I have earlier downloaded many video and picture files to blank DVD's using Brasero with ubuntu. But now most attempts fail. This might be after upgrading to latest ubuntu, but then again maybe this is not the cause, 'cos maybe once in 6 attempts brasero works ok.

It seems to take a long time - maybe 40 mins - for brasero to go through it's job, and the dvds look ok, but cannot read anything. This is a lot longer than when things worked well.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ripping CD's With Tracks That Blend Together?

Nov 14, 2010

I've been ripping some of our CD's to .ogg and .mp3 for listening at work with a Sansa Fuze. Have used RubyRipper but lately been using Rhythmbox. The app finds titles online, and it's all pretty easy.

Some rips are louder or quieter and that's a little annoying. But the biggest problem is with tracks that blend together and the app can't figure out how to dissect them. The Eagles "Dalton" CD is a mess. Also some Don Henley tracks, Creedence Clearwater, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

I could use RubyRipper to rip the entire CD as one file. Or use RubyRipper to rip just the troublesome tracks as one file. Or maybe screw around with the tracks in Audacity? Was hoping that some of you have better fixes.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Granulepos Errors Ripping To Ogg Using Abcde?

Jun 21, 2010

I recently finished ripping my CD collection. Some of the files don't play; VLC and other players can run them, but there's no sound. Running oggz-validate shows errors like this: granulepos 0 on page with no completed packets (I didn't know about oggz-validate when I was ripping, otherwise I'd have checked as I went.) I can't see a pattern: with some CDs it's the whole CD, with others, just some tracks.

I pretty much ran with the default abcde options. I upped the quality at one point, but dropped it back again. Before I replace the bad files, does anyone have any advice on what to do or avoid? I've tried googling the error, but haven't found anything useful.

I would like to use something like icecream or VLC to rip the audio from the 'Listen Now' link on this page. Unfortunately I am having a hard time finding the actual URL. The player itself is a Flash widget, so it is something more complicated than looking for OGG, mp3 or RAM file extensions in the page source. If there are some nifty command flags I should add when invoking icecream on the command line, I am all ears.
