Ubuntu Multimedia :: Tascam US 122l - External Audio Interface - Not Working

Feb 18, 2011

I own a Tascam US 122l USB audio interface. I just figured out how to run this thing with jack. Unfortunately the (output) sound is very very choppy and I am not able to use the volume control at all. how i could fix that? Or is there maybe a way to use my interface without jack and directly through alsa?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Distorts In Ubuntu 10.04 With External Audio Interface ?

Nov 1, 2010

I have an external audio interface that is supported by alsa and works really well with ubuntu 10.04. The only problem is that on my studio monitors I can clearly hear that the sound from ubuntu is distorted, like there is too much gain somwhere. Since my audio interface (Lexicon Omega) has an output level knob on the interface, ALSA does not have a level slider (software) through any mixer (eg GNOME ALSA mixer).

In order to stop the distorting sound problem, ie the signal input to my external audio interface is too "hot" first install PulseAudio Volume Control (referred to as pavucontrol in repos) in PulseAudio Volume Control configuration tab, set "profile" of your external sound interface to "off" log out, and when you log in again your problem should be solved.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get Any Sound From My Audio Interface

Nov 1, 2010

I recently got a new audio interface, which is working perfectly on ubuntu 10.04 i just plugged it in and it worked without any tinkering! the interface is a lexicon omega which is fully supported under alsa. The problem is that for some reason it's not working on ubuntu 9.04 (which is where were most of my work currently is so occasionally i still have to use 9.04 as i don't have all of the same software installed on 10.04).

Jack seems to detect it properly in both 9.04 and 10.04 as it is listed in "interfaces". But it does not show up in "Volume Control Alsa Mixer" so I cannot select it from the drop down list.

So currently I have no sound (just in case you weren't able to decipher that from my primitive ubuntu-speak above )

Here's the output of cat /proc/asound/cards

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 4-pin Firewire With Audio Interface - Don't Provide Any Power

Dec 12, 2010

I had originally planned on buying a USB 2.0 audio interface to use with my first home recording studio, but it sounds like Linux support is pretty horrible for these devices. On the other hand, the FFADO project seems to be very promising, so now I'm looking at getting a firewire interface. The only problem is that all I have on my laptop (sony vaio VGN-N365E) is a little 4-pin firewire port. If I'm not mistaken, those don't provide any power. Will this work with any interfaces (maybe one that has it's own external power adapter)? Or is there an adapter I can get to convert it to a full firewire port and add power?

Hardware :: T61P / Fedora 12 64-bit / External Audio Jack Not Working

Jan 18, 2010

I have used Linux off & on over the past 8-10 years, and last fall went full hog (no windows partition left!) on my IBM/Lenovo T61P (model 6457-B51) and am currently running Fedora 12 64-bit. It's been SOLID since last October. I did bail to the NVIDIA driver and the video performance is fantastic as well for my work usage of this system.

I have sound through the internal speakers and also through USB headsets, so it appears that pulseaudio, hated as it is, is working fine on this hardware. However, I CANNOT get any sound through the speaker jack! I get a hum anytime I attempt to use speakers connected to that jack - I have not tried a microphone on the mic jack, so I cannot speak to whether that works or not. This came to a head when I tried to play an audio file during a class and could not get the sound into the room speakers.

It's just odd that the OS is not able to talk to this port - this did work under Windows prior to my switch.

Worst case I guess I can find some USB speakers to use, but it would be handier to just plug into my guitar amp when I want some volume at home, and to be able to use other hardware as what happened last fall.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB External Audio Card Settings?

May 24, 2010

I've purchased Creative sound blaster. It's external usb sound card, which worked well as I plugged it in. In sound preferences it was setted to 'Analog stereo output' in hardware, and I've accidently messed up with Connector droplist in Output bookmark. As a result - silence in my speakers. I wonder what went wrong and where to search for it. The card is worked and it is supported by ALSA. Just some settings went wrong.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Audio From Built-in CD And External Sources?

May 29, 2010

There is no audio output to the speakers when listening to, or while recording from Line-in. Enabling software sound playthrough in Audacity did not help. Audacity simply froze. But I can make fine recordings from Line-in and play the recorded files. Also no sound from cd-audio. KsCD begins playback, but no sound. Only VLC works with cd-audio. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Recording With Audacity And Sound Blaster Mp3 / External Usb Audio Card

Jul 18, 2010

I'm trying to record some audio from 4-track cassette tapes using Audacity and a Sound Blaster mp3+ external usb audio card.I'm using Karmic.I have fiddled with levels on the sound card using alsamixer, but the only I way I can detect any sound from the tapes when recording is by turning the levels all the way up in alsamixer, and in doing this, I can faintly make out the audio beneath a large wall of static. If the levels are not maxed out, I only get static when recording in Audacity.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: App For Working With Audio CD Images?

Feb 15, 2010

Is there a Linux app for mounting and playing audio CDs from image files? I have saved disc images of nearly all of my CD collection, but I have yet to find any convenient way to play them.

Because of the nature of CD audio, every CD image has an accompanying .cue file, so there are actually 2 files (*.iso or *.bin and *.cue) from each disc. VLC Media Player will play DVD .iso images directly, but doesn't know what to do with audio CD images (or the .cue files).

Mounting and unmounting the images at the command line is tedious, given the very long file paths. I'd rather have a GUI-based app. Does any such thing exist for Linux?

FWIW, Acetone ISO doesn't work. It doesn't want to mount my *.iso format CD images. Probably some funkiness of the CD audio format. I think it is what the Acetone devs call a "multi-sector image." Likewise for the *.bin images of CDs.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Audio Not Working?

May 13, 2010

I am running 10.04 with an integrated Radeon HD3200 card. When I set up the tv through hdmi, the sound works perfectly; however, when I switch to analog audio to play something else, the next time I try to use hdmi audio I get nothing. It shows to have good level through Pulse Audio Volume Control - shows like there is a sound coming through it, but I get no audio through the tv. The only way I can fix this is by uninstalling proprietary drivers and reverting back to generic configuration and then reinstalling proprietary drivers. I have to revert back to generic in order to get the sound working again.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: VT1708BCE - Audio Not Working?

Jun 26, 2011

I'm having problems configuring chipset VT1708BCE on an Ubuntu 10.04 box. I'm using alsa 1.0.23. First I installed Ubuntu 10.04 (alsa 1.0.21). With this configuration, the audio (front and rear) works. However, none of the microphones (front and rear) work. Then I upgraded alsa to version 1.0.23, and the result was that the rear audio AND MICROPHONE did work, but the front panel (audio and microphone) stopped working.

Below are the results of the alsa-info.sh script. From that I can see (search for "control.20") that the volume on 'Front Mic Boost Capture Volume' is set to 0. I've tried to change the volume using alsamixer and gnome-volume, but none of them seem to work.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: External Webcam Is Not Working

Jan 17, 2011

I just recently purchased a GTMax Flexible 12 Mega Pixel High Resolution w/ 4 LED Light & Microphone USB PC Webcam - Black from amazon.com, and attempted to use it in Ubuntu 8.10, but can't get it to work. The LEDs come on when I plug it into my laptop's usb port, but no video. I've tested it with Cheese Webcam Booth, and also an external website, but it doesn't work.Of course, though, I'm not entirely sure its really the webcam, since Cheese Webcam Booth seems to be turning on my built-in laptop webcam which might be interfering with it, and also the tokbox widget in the website doesn't completely load anyway in ubuntu, webcam or no, so I'm thinking that maybe its only Cheese and tokbox which are not working.

My OS is Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit. Cheese Webcam Booth also does not work with my interal cam, though it turns it on, and I've confirmed it (i.e. cheese + internal webcam) does work in my ubuntu 9.10 32 bit which is installed in a multiboot on the same computer.

I would like to get these problems resolved, ASAP, as I need to have my webcam (at least one of them, preferably both) working in ubuntu 8.10, for that's the OS I use the most often.I will note that my laptop is a Dell Studio 1535, and since I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 on it, I've had a number of other hardware issues with it on ubuntu, but I've been able to get most of them resolved a long time ago, but the webcam thing is one that I haven't got to work since I first installed ubuntu (which was God knows how long ago).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio CDs Stopped Working With Karmic?

I made a fresh install of Karmic on another partition which is booting fine, but I can't get Audio CDs to work, period. They worked in Jaunty and every release before that I had installed. Data CDs work fine in Karmic. I'm using plain ol' Ubuntu 32bit. I'm not sure where to start. There have been other threads where other people had identical symptoms. Either the problem went away mysteriously on its own, or they gave up because nobody believed them. In any case, I'm beginning to wish I had stuck with Jaunty.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Suddenly Stopped Working?

Oct 24, 2010

I can't get any sound from either online audio or from a CD in drive. I've watched videos with sound with only occasional problems until today. I have been using MPlayer with internal audio 1 output - analog stereo output. When I start a vid, it will begin to D/L and play, but without sound. When I try to check the volume level everything pauses and then my system freezes. Sometimes it will release in a few seconds, but mostly it won't allow me to close Firefox and if I try to close the tab or window or Firefox, I have to reboot. Sometimes the vid will D/L without a problem, but no audio on playback. Oddly, when I bring up the system monitor, processors will show 1 or 2 cores stuck at 100% while the others fluctuate wildly. Download speed falls to almost nothing with occasional blips or nothing. I checked several sites and they all have the same problem. I have checked my physical connections, and bios settings.

There is an option for a RS780 Azalia controller 1 output Digital Stereo (HDMI) output, but I have not been able to make it work since the system was new. I don't know why.

This is the most recent SYSLOG file. The pulse audio errors have always been there, but since it didn't seem to affect playback, I didn't run it down.
