I'm getting this weird noise and (sometimes) delayed audio on HDMI out on VLC. I've tried banshee, miro, ..... on FF and all of them work just right. I would settle changing VLC's sound output to ALSA, but it's also buggy as I get no audio after pausing. Restarting or reloading Pulseaudio and ALSA didn't work either.
Does anybody have a recommendation? Obviously, I'd like to stick with VLC.
I have had problems with pulseaudio since F13 so the problem is not new just that I have been working since 12 AM till now 6:30 AM trying to fix it and I have failed the only thing left from what I see is a complete reinstall. When I start skype it works for 5 secs then the sound becomes corrupt and make a large crackling noise. I have reinstalled alsa and pulse atleast 10 times removed any trace of config files and still the same result. It first broke when I turned off tsched in hopes that my microphone will no longer broadcast a buzzing sound. This setting broke everything and even after I reverted it the symptoms remained the same. It's 3rd time I reinstall fedora because of pulseaudio. Until the problem can be fixed I have reverted back to ALSA.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince about a few weeks, I have a problem with the sound on my Ubuntu Jaunty 64-bit. From any application it would simply provide noise instead of the real sound. The motherboard is working fine and providing sound under Vista. Initially, I then managed to change the settings in System-> Sound from Auto to one of the options, which provided for a decent test result. Now this is not working anymore either ... so I only get noise out of my speakers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest version of Ubuntu and have been for a while now without issue. However today (actually now yesterday) i made the giant mistake of upgrading my on board HD3150 graphics to a PCIe HD5570 since then my whole life has fallen to bits.
First i noticed some visual noise on the screen. Concluding this was due to incorrect or out of date drivers i attempted to update them from the Hardware Drivers section. This gave the error:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Activating from the command line using jockey gave the same error.
Deciding a reboot might be needed i did so. On power up all ubuntu and recovery modes produced an unskinned GUI with no desktop icons that responded to no mouse or keyboard input.
I was forced to reinstall the operating system.
On reinstalling and losing everything i had installed previously (it's going to take many days to get that all back and working again!), i still have the screen noise, have still been getting the same errors on attempting to activate the drivers, except now i also get this:
the installation of this driver failed.

Is there a way to filter static or noise out of an mp3? I have avidemux and audacity but I'm not sure how to go about it, or if its actually possible.

I've tried to record sound with an external microphone and there have always been a permanent noise accompanying it.I thought it could be the internal microphone, that's causing the noise, but even when I disabled it the noise remains. Or maybe I didn't disable it the right way !
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter GRUB 2 comes up (I'm running Ubuntu 10.10) and I choose the OS to boot, there is about a 5 second delay where nothing appears to happen after I make the selection -- no disk activity. It happens consistently every time I boot. Again, this is after I choose the OS to boot, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the standard delay to allow me to choose the appropriate OS.Is there a good way to troubleshoot this and determine what is causing the delay?

I had managed to get rid of it in Fedora 10 with the command: su -c "yum remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio" I just don't want to have to deal with Pulseaudio anymore. It does not like my sound card and gets in the way. Is there a Linux distribution that does not use Pulseaudio ?

My microphone was working properly until four days ago. I'm not sure if this appeared after a system update, I'm using LL 10.04. This is my onboard HDA Intel chip,from 'lspci':

I can record sounds from the microphone, but white noise is accompanied. The weird thing is that when I unplug the microphone, I can still hear the white noise. I've tried modifying the settings in gnome-volume-control and in alsamixer without luck. The white noise is persistent. I've read this can be related to pulse audio but no one seems to know how to reset it to its default configuration.
After installing Catalyst with VA-API began a strange problem with the sound via HDMI. Prior to installing the sound worked fine. Platform: MSI E350IA-E45 with Radeon HD 6310 and AMD Zacate E350 Version of Catalyst 11.4. After installing the sound is playing with a terrible noise Sample: [URL]... View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed squeeze 6.0.2 amd64 and noticed when I use k3b to burn/verify a disc, when it has finished burning the media it plays a sound, and rather sound is played which sounds very crackly/muffled.I do not remember this on ubuntu, and I cannot say for sure but I dont recall this happening on squeeze 6.0.1.
Sound plays perfectly in all other applications, no problems whatsoever.This is not a big deal, I just dont remember this happening. now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...

I have a doubt about the Gnome default Image Viewer.It's because I edit my RAW images on RawTherapee, and then export them to jpg.When I open the exported pictures on the image viewer, it looks like has lots of noise.But when I open the same picture on Gimp or Iceweasel, the noises doen't appear.

Whenever I play a flash object that has sound, there is this repetitive beeping noise audible over the audio track. I've tried this on different videos and different sites, always with the same result. Whenever I play a multimedia file in Iceweasel, for example [URL]... plodes.ogv , the sound is normal, as is the sound for any multimedia file that I play in MPlayer. So, I am convinced it is a flash issue. What I don't get is why this just started happening for no apparent reason.
I'm not sure what's causing it, but when I play or pause a flash video in Firefox or Chromium, there's about a second of audio delay.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem where almost every audio player creates a 2-3 second delay after playing any audio.
I'm working on some text-to-speech using espeak and festival. Festival would provide much better speech quality, but it created a 2-3 second delay after any speech before the application exited, which prevents using it. When I started investigating the issue, it turned out that many other programs display the same behavior.
For example, if I play a 1-second WAV of silence using "play", it displays "Done" very soon and then waits for 2-3 seconds before exiting. mplayer does the same. mpg123 does the same. mpg321 does the same. ogg123 does the same.
When playing multiple files mpg123 and ogg123 do not generate the pause between the files, but mplayer does. I'm wondering can there be a bug that causes programs to hang when closing the audio device?
That's so many programs it must be some kind of problem in the system, not the individual programs. However not every program displays this behavior; espeak exits immediately after the speech has ended. (Might it for instance exit without closing the audio device properly?)
I haven't noticed anything similar before I upgraded to 10.10. I'm running XUbuntu on a Thinkpad T60. The laptop has an Intel HD Audio with AD1981HD codec [url].

they claim to have fixed the issue after kernel 3.4 so i must have some missconfiguration causing this loop.
I have Linux debian 7.7.0 i386-amd64 under VBox 4.3.20 and here is the problem:::
When I open the menu from Linux's top-right corner and click SHUT DOWN..., it shows the dialog with choices, and that Linux guest will automatically shutdown after 60 seconds and I need to change that delay value to 3 seconds. Of course I could just re-click Shut Down -button again, but I don't want to do it. Period.

This tutorial is meant for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, but it might work in earlier or later versions as well. I wrote this tutorial mostly because it took me a full day of work using lots of help from people on #mpd and #pulseaudio from the FreeNode IRC server.The goal is to get the MPD daemon working using PulseAudio, but without it being dependent on the X server or a session. To do that we must configure PulseAudio to run in system-wide daemon mode (which is not recommended by the developers, but in this case we do not have a choice). This means it will be using the /etc/pulse/system.pa config file instead of the usual /etc/pulse/default.pa. We must also make sure the appropriate user/group permissions are set, or PulseAudio will be rejecting the connections.The result will be an interrupt-less music environment, not dependent on the X server. Meaning we can for example log out and log in without the music having to stop for even a second. Switching TTYs (Ctrl+Alt+Fx) will also keep the music playing (not possible by default). All that and PulseAudio will still be able to detect and configure all your devices automatically.
Instructions: Make sure you add your username to the following system groups: pulse, pulse-access and audio.Do that by going to System --> Administration --> Users and Groups.Click the unlock button (the one with a picture of some keys), then click Manage Groups. In the list of groups that pops up, for each of the previously mentioned groups click "Properties" and select all the users that you want to have this functionality.
I seem to be having a problem with my sound. Every time I start my computer, I hear the sound played at the login screen and the sound played when I login. Right then, every time, the sound cracks up and stops before it finishes. Running "ubuntu-bug audio" shows that ALSA works fine but pulseaudio does not. For reference, "pacmd list" says that there are 0 sinks, 0 sources and 0 caches.
Edit: Solved by a really stupid mistake: loose 3.5mm audio cable. Don't do that. your sound and you're on a desktop computer, go, right now, and check to make sure that you haven't made the same mistake as me.
I've noticed g-p-m refreshes information extremely delayed. Sometimes it takes many many minutes before it notifies me that I'm running on battery. how I can change this refresh rate? I've drained the batteries once recently believing the icon that said 89% less than a minute before the batteries were completely discharged (my battery lasts for about 15-20 minutes).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm on 9.10 and I use huludesktop often to watch my Hulu queue. Every once in a while (and more so lately) the video freeze and the sound stutters. I then find that pulseaudio is taking 100% of a CPU (I have a quad core AMD 64bit machine). Killing pulseaudio causes huludesktop to continue without sound and a new pulseaudio starts up. I have to kill huludesktop and resume playback and then everything's OK, until it happens again.

I need to upgrade Pulseaudio to a version better than 0.9.14 (i.e. at least 0.9.15) in order to get the Pulseaudio plugin in Blueman to work, but despite following these instructions to add the PPA it will not be upgraded!

1) Many of us use JACK for low-latency audio work, but it's annoying to have to turn it on or off to have to allow regular Ubuntu applications to work. It's even more annoying that both can't normally work together -- either JACK or PulseAudio must take control of the sound control. This method allow JACK to do, and PulseAudio just routes to JACK.
2) JACK is kinda super awesome. By routing PulseAudio through it, your regular Ubuntu sound application suddenly get super powers. Pretty easy to do! (Well, we count our blessings in Linux...)
1. DYNAMICALLY You need the PulseAudio utilities and JACK sink:

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo there's just one DVD (Narnia) that won't play on my Ubuntu machine using Totem: other DVDs play (I've installed libdvdread4 and libdvdcss2 like a good boy) and non-pulseaudio players like VLC play it properly. If I completely remove and kill pulseaudio, it plays in totem fine. It gets to the language selection screen and I select English, but as soon as any sound is involved it doesn't play. Clicking Go --> DVD menu causes Totem to hang. I don't want to be uninstalling pulseaudio, and VLC player is a bit complex for the mother.
