General :: Installing Flash Player In Red Hat Enterprise Linux V5.1?
Sep 13, 2009
I hav successfully installed RHEL5.1 on my system. I downloaded flash player from Adobe website. I chose RPM from the download type. Now, I can find an icon on my GUI for the flash player. When I right-click the icon and click on "Open with software installer", I was able to install flash player. Even the system showed that the software has been installed. But still when I issue the command rpm -qi flash the output says that flash is not installed.
Is there any correct way to install the rpm package. I even tried to install using rpm -ivh <flash player pkg name> even that did'nt work... I have another query... where does the package gets installed when I download RPM's or any other software from the internet.. I want to know the path where the pkgs will be sotred...
I would like to download a Flash game and play it without using Firefox under Ubuntu Lucid - any ideas how? I can download the game fine, I'm just wondering how to play it without Firefox. Is there a standalone Flash Player I can use?
I have barebones Debian Lenny, with bare bones Gnome Desktop. I'm using IceWeasel for a browser. I have downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz. from the Adobe website. I have unpacked (I guess) the file using the command tar -zxvpf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
Now according to the instructions at Adobe - Flash Player 10: Installation instructions It should be unpacked to a directory with an installer that can be run, but all I get is a single file called libflashplayer.so, and I haven't a clue what to do with it. .so is like a .dll file I guess. IceWeasel has a built in service that installs plugins, but this failed with flash.
I have linux linpus lite and I am having trouble installing flash player 10. Once it gets into my downloads I open it and get a message asking me "do you want to install the update patch?" I click ok and it then says "the patch file does not available."
i have recently gotten the Knoppix 6.0, and have installed it on my usb flash drive. finally i can browse the internet again on that laptop, but alas, i can't watch any videos because flash player isnt installed yet. i tried to install it by myself and followed adobe's instructions but i just dont get why it won't install. here are my questions:
1. in the adobe instructions, it is said that i need to unpackage the files. and when i unpackage it, a new directory/folder is supposed to appear. but why does it always unpackage on the desktop? no folders are created when i unpackage it.
2. it is said that i need to navigate to the newly created directory and type a command. how am i supposed to navigate to a non-existent directory, huh? and how do you even navigate to certain directory? i typed help in the terminal (i'm using LXTerminal by the way) to look for a hint but i saw nothing there. so, how do you "navigate" using the terminal?
I really need to install the flash player. I've also tried using the Install components in start > system tools > install components and selected the 'flashplugin-nonfree: Flash support for your browser' but when i clicked install, nothing happens.

As a newbie to linux, I just installed fedora 12 on my labtop.I am having problems installing my lemark 6600 series wireless printer and also having serrious issues with adobe flash player.Another issue i have is that I cant log in as root user.
When I try to upload the photos to my gallery, the dpreview.com says: Adobe Flash required In order to upload images you need Adobe Flash Player. You have either an older version or no version at all. You can get the latest version on. I downloaded the RPM from the Suse website: [URL].
Code: linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586.rpm package flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586 is already installed linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb /usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # The problem persists.
Now I realize, perhaps they mean that no other flash player than adobe will work. So now downloaded the plugin from the Adobe website: [URL]
Code: linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-plugin-10.2.152.27-release.i386.rpm linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb /usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # The problem STILL persists.
My yast crashes just as soon as started installing flash. Do have flash saved as .tar.gz on desktop. What is the easiest way to install it? Also searched in Tutorials. Just patching as I go until I build a new PC.
I just installed Fedora 11 on my Sony Vaio laptop. I couldn't stand Windows Vista any longer. I installed Fedora 11 just fine with no issues. But I seem to be having trouble installing programs such as Adobe Flash Player, Reader, Limewire, Java pluggin, etc. Everytime I try to install these, it says for example "Could not display "/home/blackout87gn/Download/jre-6u16-linux-i586-rpm.bin". This was for the Java file I downloaded. I made sure that all these files I downloaded were for Linux. So being the newb that I am, can someone point me in the right direction on how to install these applications? Also what does .rpm .bin .deb and .tar.gz represent?
I installed the player from both the Add/Remove Applications and downloading with install when asked by Firefox, but neither option works. It shows as installed but Firefox keeps asking me to install it whenever it needs it.
Just a little question about installing the Adobe Flash Player. I downloaded the Flash Player library in tar.gz format directly from Adobe. I want to install it in the default plug-in directory for Opera, which is /usr/lib/opera/plugins. When I try to copy the file, I get an error saying that I do not have the sufficient permissions to copy a file to that directory. Does anyone know how to copy the file using the command line, using the SUDO command?
I am very new to Ubuntu, decided to try it again with the new 10.4. I really need to have flash player plugin installed, but I get this error: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. I even tried to go through the software center and the extra install through the help site from the firefox browser, but still get the error message.

i'm trying to install adobe flash player so i can view ..... videos in opera browser. without going into detail i have tried every possible way from all various instructions, even in the initial install it is suppose to install the flash player plugin from the software centre
I am a complete beginner but I have installed Freespire on a PC of mine. Everything works okay: BBC iPlayer, You Tube, Internet Radio except Deezer which, it seems, requires the installation of Adobe Flash Player 10. I've followed the recommendations of countless articles in the Internet without success and my head is now spinning. For example there seem to be three input screens for instructions: Shell, Linux Console and Root Shell. I don't even know which one I should be using. Frequently my failed efforts result in a message saying unknown file and directory. When I download Adobe tar.gz I can't see where it's going. I tried extracting to the Desktop and that produces a file ending in .so. But what ever I do nothing works.
I am using ubuntu 10.10, I am trying to get adobe flash plugin to install and cannot get it installed tried from adobe.com took me to software center and says available from the "maverick-partner" source then clickable link use this source. That don't work. Tried in terminal "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer" installed but no function. also tried "flashplugin-nonfree" in software center and installed but no function after that either.

I have installed Fedora 15 on my Desktop. My desktop is a 64-bit AMD Athlon Processor. I'm having some problem installing Adobe flash player in my Desktop. due to this I'm unable to view any ..... videos.
I went to the website get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ site and there is a note that 64-bit users: Download a preview release of Flash Player with native support for 64-bit Linux from Adobe Labs. On following this link it redirected me to [URL]...10_square.html where I could find a tar.gz file Download plug-in for 64-bit Linux (TAR.GZ, 4.1 MB) I tried untarring this file but could not find configure, read me files with installation steps.

Can anyone explain to me how to install the newest flash player on netbook remix? I am pretty rusty with linux and want to put it on my netbook. I currently have it on a flash drive. I want to make sure i can do everything I need on it before I wipe Windows.
i am a proud newbie user of debian linux. the desktop i use is xfce. i have iceweasel as the web browser. it cannot access flash content like videos videos and some others because the adobe flash plugin is not installed. i've done the following without success. i downloaded flash_player_10_linux.tar from adobe's site, unpacked it to get libflashplayer.so. but under /usr/lib/iceweasel, there is no plugins folder to put it in. there is, however, a broken link called plugins. then i created a plugins folder under home/myaccount/.mozilla and pasted the libflashplayer.so file over there. i restarted iceweasel, but it cannot still detect flash content.
then i ran apt-get install of jre and downloaded all java packages. however, while installation it gave an error saying, "cannot overwrite iceweasel/plugins". this came most probably because as mentioned earlier there is no plugins folder under iceweasel to begin with. on running the about : plugins command, i get "no plugins installed". i then deleted the plugins folder from .mozilla and directly pasted the libflashplayer.so file under usr/lib/iceweasel (since it contained many other .so files). how to enable iceweasel to enable the adobe flashplayer plugin.
