I'm using Fedora 14 with wine installed and using that to run Spotify but I'm getting the error message-
'There is a problem with the sound decoder. Spotify can't play music'
I have done a search and installed the alsa bit of wine and changed the settings but I still get the above message.
My questions are- what does this mean and do I need to install something else. I have all the codes for mp3 etc.
I have seen already many post about my same problem but the suggestions have not been enough in my case .
I have Ubuntu 10.10, I run spotify through wine, but i receive the message saying can't play the music. I already ticked only ALSA, only OSS, both, I followed the other instructions for the audio tab ( Emulation, 44100 and 16 ), I reinstalled it as well, but nothing to do.
I recently bought a new notebook, an Asus N73JQ. This notebook has a special sound system called "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". The first thing I did was to install Ubuntu 64-bit. After installing and rebooting I am certain that i heard the Ubuntu login sound but ten minutes later when i tried playing music with Spotify all sound was gone. The login sound now gone too. I have tried editing settings in System -> Preferences -> Sound, with no luck. The settings dialog lists two sound devices, "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)". Sound output device is set to the Internal Analog ** device. I have tried different profiles for this device but nothing seems to work. Does anyone here have the same notebook/sound system with a working sound configuration?

When I installed it, it played from my speakers.
I set up wine audio config to OSS Driver.
However after reboot, sound does not come out from the speakers.

When I got to the desktop, I tried to play music, but no sound came-out.So, I tried to uninstall the plugins I installed yesterday and restarted. I got similar errors in the console-text as earlier.When my desktop loaded, I still had no sound. I have several problems with the entire sound architecture of the computer, and I've taken a screenshot to show my problems: Screenshot-8.jpg.Does anyone here know what I could/ should do to resolve this issue? my soundcards are Rocketfish (PCI) and Realtek HD Audio (Integrated). Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server,sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway

how can I play audio (Mythtv - Play Music) simultaneously on two sound cards using ALSA drivers. I have two cards working well. One card is an onboard Intel cards, and the other card is a USB Audio card. Both cards are working well. I use the onboard Intel to output SPDIF to an amplified. The second USB card is bound to MPD service and it outputs an analog signal to a second amplified. I'd like to have the following configuration: Play to the default card with 5.1 passthrough, while the second card, connected to a second amplifier, plays an analog signal to the same audio played by Mythtv Play Music. In other words, I need to mix somehow and play the same audio on both cards.

So, after an update my sound stopped working at all. Music won't even play on Banshee. I tried fixing this several ways with no luck. Now, my computer's sound output is stuck at "Dummy".

Another problem is that WINE doesn't work, with the exception of WINE's default programs. I've been trying to get this thing to work for at least four days now, and I've made absolutely no progress...
Also, after fighting with it for a few days, I finally managed to get the internet to work, but Linux still thinks that I'm offline. It's really weird. This one's not so much of a problem as it is annoying. In addition, if I click-on the network-manager-thingy, it says that none of my connections have ever been used. Odd.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

I can get sound in wine but when I'm trying to run spotify via wine I get "There is a problem with your sound card" error, anyone know how to fix this? I'm running fedora 10 64bit

It installed the gstreamer, however when I attempt to play music it doesn't unfortunately. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to play a .mov video on the internet, and when the video loads, I get an error that says "search for suitable plugin?.........plugin not found: -text/html decoder" and so i try to open it in movie player, it says its streaming, same thing happens. then I try to play it in vlc media player, and i get no message, it just wont play it. I have all the boxes checked in the updates i.e. important, recommended, pre-released, unsupported etc. I also installed the libdvdreader repository. btw another issue im having is that although installing mediubuntu fixed my poor and choppy dvd playback issue in movieplayer, now it plays, but is very "shaky" basically it looks like they had very unsteady hand while filming. I play it in VLC media player and have zero issues, the picture quality is perfect.

I just recently changed all my desktops over to Fedora 15 from Mint 11 & came up with something I wasn't sure how to fix. When the desktops had Mint 11 on them if you opened Rhythmbox the mt-daapd share showed up on the left without me having to do anything (under Shared Music). Now that I have switched over to Fedora, I don't see that heading or my mt-daapd shares.I have tried Rhythmbox & Banshee. I can connect to it & play music, but I would like for it to just show up & I can't for the life of me figure this out.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what in the world is going on with my sound in OpenSuSE. I put in a brand new Audigy chipset soundcard and finally got some sound to come out of the speakers. I used the guide here: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE. to fix the permissions on my sound and am able to get sound-test to play sounds as well as connect to the sound device in my vmware and play sounds. That being said, I have terrible sound quality coming out. There is a lot of static sound like white noise and the volume of the actual sound played is very low compared to the noise. The sounds also distort somewhat.
I have tried the pulse audio change in the tutorial above also and have been searching around google. The only problem that I saw similar was a person who fixed the problem by updating KDE. I don't have KDE, I'm using Afterstep.
I recently bought a monthful of Spotify Premium to enjoy music at the school with my laptop and Nokia E71 with the offline mode - the WiFi at our school is too laggy to stream online music. Under wine, it works quite fine, however, I would totally like to use the native client (yes, I'm too a "yay linux" person like all of you here ), but the music quality is very poor on offline mode. It clips, goes forward, a second back, then back forward etc. The bitrate sounds to be high, an the quality is very good except the annoying clipping.
Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Beta release with Samsung N510 so the cpu power should not be an issue even though the native client uses the resources very greedily. Interesting enough, on my desktop computer (Core2Quad @ 3,3GHz, 4GB 900MHz DDR2 RAM) with the same OS version and software plays offline playlists smoothly (only some occasional clipping)
From the import music menu, I can add music, and once selected can play a song, but once imported, whenever I try to play a song (from the normal menu item) I can select, it shows the correct song length, but it just sits there waiting to start. The log shows this.
"AV decoder. Error: -2" Why would one portion of the program play and another have an issue. I've played with permissions, didn't seem to help. Rhythmbox seems to work just fine on the same files.
update: not sure what I did, but it seems to be working. I went over the FAQ about what to do if no sound, did a few of the suggestions, but the only things that makes sense (granted to me, maybe not the best source of sense) is that I added a user to the audio group? or maybe it was Getting more than one application to use the soundcard at the same time?
