Ubuntu Multimedia :: Find-out The Beats Per Minute (BPM) For Each Of The Songs In Music Collection?

Jul 10, 2011

I'm looking to find-out the beats per minute (BPM) for each of the songs in my music collection to put together various playlists and thought it would be as simple as adding that column of information to Rhythmbox or Clementine, but that fields shows-up as blank. Am I doing something wrong or do I need a scanner to add that meta information first? If so, do you fine folks know of a good one out there for a large collection?

EDIT: So, I installed Banshee because I've read it has a BPM scanner; however, it runs insanely slowly. It took from when I last posted this to now to scan my music collection and only has about two dozens songs' BPM computed. Is Banshee supposed to be that slow? Seems useless.

I needed that because some websites still believe there is only one operating system (for the most part those are government run sites). how to change the config in Firefox 4 to make it look as though it is running on a windows machine?

Debian Hardware :: Beats Audio Not Work Properly On HP ENVY 17 J112nl

Dec 27, 2014

I am "old" Linux user. I use Debian with satisfaction on my old PC for many years. I have a new notebook: HP Envy 17 j112nl :

main characteristics:
- Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ con scheda grafica Intel HD 4600 (2,5 GHz, 6 MB di cache, 4 core)
- 12 GB di SDRAM DDR3L a 1600 MHz (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB)
- NVIDIA GeForce 840M (2 GB of DDR3)
- Backlit keyboard --> good work "out of the box" !
- Fingerprint readers
- Beats Audio™ with 4 speakers + 2 subwoofer

Of course i have install Debian 8 Jessie (Testing - AMD64).The main problem of this notebook is "Beats Audio" Chip IDT 92HD91BXX. After install Debian use by default only the base ones: no subwoofer, URL...

Some other info about my hardware:

Ubuntu :: Remove Annoying Drum Sound At Startup?

Jul 6, 2010

How do I remove that annoying drum sound from the login screen.I went to PREFERENCES -> LOGIN SCREEN, but there are no tabs or boxes for sound. Only options to determine who I want to log in.I tried GCONF-EDITOR, and drilled down to /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound/active and unchecked the active box, rebooted, but it still plays that stupid sound. And the box is unchecked if I check it! I've tried the solutions in the forum and nothing seems to kill that annoying sound.I'm still on 9.10 right now, since 10.04 has a nasty screen flicker problem.

Debian Hardware :: Setting Up Serial Drum Printer

I have yet to get the old system they were attached to up and running, I want to try to get the printer up and running under a modern linux install. The printer is a LP11 and attaches via serial. The most simple way to me seems to be via LPD, but Im not sure on how to proceed.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Making Video Annotations-what Software?

Mar 22, 2010

I'm doing some screencast presentation. I've recorded the videos with gtk-recordMyDesktop, now I need to make some annotations on that. What would be best software where I can put some text labels onto the video? I'd love to have possibility to stop the original video for the moment, than put the text on the "stopped" frame, show it for a second or two and than continue playback ...

I know I can achieve it in kdenlive by cutting the video into pieces, than exporting last frame, duplicating as image annotated in gimp, but it would be LOT of work ... I need simpler solution!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Jack Rack And Making Script?

Jul 3, 2010

I just setup Ubuntu on my church sound computer and did the Studio Preparation. Now I use Ardour to record the services and Jack Rack for effects (DC offset, compression, limiting and gate.) I'm wanting to make a script that will launch and start Jack, launch Jack Rack then open a saved rack and then launch Ardour and open a saved session. Now the only issue that I can find is Jack Rack has this random number under the jack connections. So if I save a Ardour session with the connections set, it is ruined due to the random number that is generated by Jack Rack. Is there a way to kill that number and what is the best way to make a script to do the above?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee Seems To Be Making Files Shorter

Nov 10, 2010

Trying to sync a bunch of files to a 5.5-gen iPod with Banshee 1.6, on Lucid. I moved the files from my friend's computer to my Sansa View via UMS transfer; just dragged and dropped. The file lengths are correct on my player. My friend used Banshee to sync the same files, from the same computer, to his iPod. In Banshee and on his iPod, the files are all shorter. The files are supposed to be approximately 30 minutes each. In Totem on my friend's computer, and on my Sansa, the first file is 33:11. In Banshee and on his iPod, it's about 17:00. Some files have been cut down to two minutes long. This has happened across multiple albums in multiple folders. Clearly the problem is Banshee, since Totem recognizes the appropriate file length.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Making A Mess Of Folders And File Names

Jan 8, 2010

I've been enjoying using Rhythmbox to rip a stack of CDs. Initially I had problems getting it to recognise Lame but following uninstalling and reinstalling it, it seemed to be working well. That is, until I looked in my Music folder.

It turns out files have been placed in individual folders, named "number - title.udio" (e.g.: "11 - She Can Do What She Wants.udio". The mp3 file itself is named identically throughout - it's the string for the gstreamer settings, i.e. "x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc preset=1002 ! xingmux ! id3v2muxmp3".

The settings within Rhythmbox's properties for folder and file naming are all set to the sensible default. This is a pain. In the short term I'm going to try EasyTAG to sort it out, but ultimately I need to sort this or find alternative software.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Audio Via HDMI/DisplayPort - Chances Making It Work?

May 11, 2011

I occasionally use a DisplayPort->HDMI cable to connect my laptop to my AV-Receiver, however I only get the picture to the AV-Receiver, but no sound. I read that not all DisplayPort->HDMI cables support sound, so I tested Windows7 on the same machine and it transmitted sound over that cable just fine. So I conclude that it is a Linux driver problem.

So I generally wonder whether this can be made to work easily or not. Does anyone here have experiences with this topic, especially with nvidia graphics cards managing the display port? (I did find older posts about HDMI audio, but they were all concerned with ATI graphics.)

pavucontrol / phonon do list a "High Definition Audio Controller Digital Stereo (HDMI)"-device, but sending sound to it does not do a thing. Furthermore, my dell laptop only has a displayport, but no HDMI connector.
