Ubuntu Multimedia :: Invalid Format ATI Radeon 3470 HDMI To Tv

Aug 19, 2010

I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 with an ATI Radeon 3470 HDMI card. I'd like to install Ubuntu on this computer, and I'd like to use my Olevia HDTV as a monitor and use it as a media computer. I attach the tv to the computer via HDMI, and boot to the Ubuntu install disk - I'm presented with an 'Invalid Format' error message, and no video on the tv. Is there any way around this error so I can continue the install?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Radeon X1200 HDMI Audio?

Apr 5, 2010

I want my computer to be used as a DVD/BD player, and as of recently it has rejected its windows install and refuses to reinstall. Ubuntu 9.10 installed without problem, but when I select the X1200 (hdmi) audio output via the top right icon no sound comes out. I've searched this topic and one theory was that if i ran ALSA mixer the x1200 audio might be muted by default; it was not muted. I've also been told to update my catalyst, but using synaptics packet manager to download the catalyst control center, when I run it I get the message no supported hardware found. Is there any way to get this to work, or am I stuck with my speakers/3.5mm jack?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Radeon 4670 Only Offers Stereo Sound Through HDMI

Although the description on ATI-AMD webpage [URL] specifies that this card can output up to 7.1 audio through HDMI, Sound Controls only shows the stereo and off option. ATI Catalyst does not have any controls for audio. Is there a way to get 5.1 audio enabled? Using 10.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Sound Not Working On ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 5450

Jun 22, 2011

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on HTPC, after having a few RAM and SATA issues everything seems to be working fine, The audio (using HDMI) does not work. Have PC connected using HDMI for video (and I am hoping for audio too, this card is made for this and it has been tested with other OS) however the audio does not work, although in the audio preferences it shows to be using the correct hardware. Testing for sound under sound preferences does not play anything, acts as it it was, but no sound, no error messages either. I went ahead and installed ATIs proprietary drivers in hopes that it would make the audio work, but not luck so far.

Ubuntu Installation :: Grub And 9.04 - Error "invalid Command" Or "invalid Execution Format"

Aug 16, 2011

Bottom Line: Dvd Drive died in my toshiba laptop and it was replaced (not before tech for some reason reformatted the Win7 partition... which was 100% un-needed, but thats beside the point now. I redid win7 (the tech installed vista) and am TRYING to "redo grub". Facts: The Slackware AND Ubuntu Partitions ARE STILL THERE and when i use SuperGrub Boot CD (which doesn't restore my grub by itself) to boot into slackware, i can see ALL THE CONTENT of both Linuxes still there including grub on ubuntu partition

(Tri-Boot: Ubuntu, Slackware, and WIn7) I had it working for two years or so, SO i know this "setup" works fine. I am A) Trying to do this as simply as possible. B) Trying to avoid the need to download a 800MB ISO (as seen for this issue on this forum) and trying not to have to reformat Ubuntu Partition (though I have the .Debs I have downloaded for it backed up ... all 1.7GB of them) I have /dev/sda1 as win7, /dev/sda2 as Slack and /dev/sda3 as Ubuntu (which contains Grub Legacy).. Every command I do seems to result in an error like "invalid command" or "invalid Execution format " (i think that second one is right) type errors. I compiled (awhile back) a few kernels for Slackware, but feel goofy that I cant figure what i this out (what i thought was going to be a "2 minute" fix)

Debian Hardware :: ATI Radeon HD 3200 HDMI Audio On Wheezy

May 6, 2014

I recently switched over one of my Ubuntu machines to Debian Wheezy. On the Ubuntu system I was able to get the HDMI audio working by adding radeon.audio=1 to grub. I've tried this on this system to no avail. The fglrx-legacy-driver causes underscan and I'd like to avoid it if possible for convenience.

Things I've tried:

fglrx-legacy-driver - Introduced underscan while not solving the problemradeon.audio=1 in grub boot line - No effectGoogling for several hours - There's a lot of topics about this, but most are old and irrelevant, and the ones that are current enough didn't solve my issue.Yelling at it - HDD light blinked a few times, no change
lspci shows

Hardware :: ATI Radeon 57xx Using HDMI Overscan (CentOS 5.5 X86_64)?

Feb 9, 2011

So, I need to use the HDMI out on my Radeon 57xx because the DVI input on my monitor is in use by another machine that has no other way to connect to it, and I won't swap cables around all the time. Of course, because someone somewhere decided that if it's plugged in to HDMI it must be a TV and have overscan issues I have a nice black box surrounding my screen image.

In Windows I can resolve this by opening CCC and changing the overdrive settings. Thus far I have yet to be able to get CCC to open and the only thing the console tool allows you to do is toggle overscan on and off, which doesn't seem to have any effect so far. Has anyone gotten this issue resolved? Do I need to focus on getting CCC working (which I probably won't use for anything else...) or is there a console command that can handle the job? Change to xorg.conf? Anything?

Debian Hardware :: Jessie - Radeon HDMI Audio Not Working On Kernels 3.12 And Up

Jun 15, 2014

I am running a small Debian Jessie installation on my Zotac Nano AD10 (based on AMD's E-350, Radeon 6310). I use it as an MPD server, it outputs to my receiver over HDMI.

Up until kernel 3.11 that works fine. My GRUB command line looks like this (default grub.cfg file):

Code: Select all$ grep radeon /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet elevator=noop radeon.audio=1 radeon.dpm=1"

Up till 3.11, this worked fine. The available outputs in alsamixer are unmuted [00]. Aplay reports this:

Code: Select all$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I also set the HDMI output as system-wide default:

Code: Select all$ cat /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default {
      type plug
      slave {
      pcm "hw:0,3" # HDMI audio
      }
        }

Running speakertest on device 0,3 though, - no sound:

Code: Select all$ speaker-test --device plughw:0,3

speaker-test 1.0.27.2

Playback device is plughw:0,3
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 16384
Period size range from 32 to 8192
Using max buffer size 16384

[Code] ...

I've tried fixing this repeatedly (3.12, 3.13, 3.14) but everytime i find myself returning to 3.11 because that keeps working.... Some posts suggest running xrandr could get it working, but this is a headless installation, so I cannot use xrandr.

For reference, OpenELEC works on this same system (separate install), and they're up to 3.14 as well. Never had a problem with OpenELEC and the audio not working.

General :: Invalid Format When Using TV As Monitor - Ubuntu 10.04?

Aug 16, 2010

I have an old Dell Optiplex GX240 running Windows XP hooked up to my Olevia HDTV. I'd like to format this computer and install Ubuntu 10.04.After burning the Ubuntu install disk, I hook the computer to the tv via HDMI and reboot to the CDROM but upon booting I receive an 'Invalid Format' error and no video is shown.I did some searching - there is very little info about this problem. This post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1063217 seems to indicate that the solution is to hook up the computer to an old CRT monitor, then after the computer has booted, switch the HDMI cable to the tv.This solution is unsatisfactory. Does anyone have experience with this problem? Is there another way to get around this problem?

After it turned of and restarted it seems it made a change to Grub and upgraded it to Grub2. In doing so I now get the following message:

Slackware :: Invalid Module Format Both Broadcom Wireless And Nvidia Gfx

Jan 25, 2011

A little background first: Wireless card: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless driver used: [URL].... (and slackbuild variation of the same)
GFX card: nVidia geForce 7150m I installed Slackware yesterday, along side my Ubuntu (yes yes, I use Ubuntu lol. I've been using it for about four years, I added Slackware to grub.cfg, using the OS prober, which added four menu entries. The first two caused kernel panic, the third worked, and I don't think I tried the fourth. (I'm pretty sure they were, in this order: generic, generic-smp, huge, and huge-smp). Using huge, I could not modprobe my wireless driver, I would get a "Invalid Module Format" error with wl, and when installing the nVidia drivers (from their site), I would get:

[code]....

I then booted using a menuentry my friend gave me, created my initrd, and everything worked fine, both graphics and wireless (mostly fine). So I upgraded to -current, kernel 2.6.35.10, and I started getting the same errors as before, 'Invalid Module format' and the same thing with the nVidia drivers, although this time, it happens regardless of if I use the generic kernel, or the huge kernel. I've done heaps of Google'ing around, and nothing I found worked.
