Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDE Webcam Won't Work / What To Do?

May 12, 2010

I just recently bought a VERY cheap usb webcam from a company named HDE. There doesn't seem to be a specific name or even model number for this webcam, but here is the web page of the webcam I bought, http://www.hdeshop.com/USB-3-LED-PC-...B0015TJNEY.htm The website only provides drivers for windows vista and windows xp, but I figured there might be a chance or possibility that I could force this webcam to work on ubuntu 9.10.

I plugged in the webcam and it did show up in skype, but the picture is all green and there is a double of me. Plus, the actual webcam device will not show up in skype, I can't select the webcam, but regardless it still shows a green double vision image when I test it or do a video call. Skype seems to be the only thing this webcam kind of works with, It will not work with Cheese though and doesn't show an image in gstreamer. I want to mention that when I go to Cheese Preferences there is a webcam device that appears and sayse "USB 2.0 Camera (/dev/video0)" but I can't select it. I'm not sure what to do about this or how to fix it? I've searched around the internet and read the ubuntu documentation on webcams but really haven't had any luck for my specific webcam. I would just like the webcam to be detected by ubuntu 9.10, to work properly in skype, and work in cheese so I can record video's.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDE Webcam Won't Work / Fix It?

May 12, 2010

I'm using Wubi to dual boot 9.10 off windows xp. I have been having very good luck figuring things out using this ubuntu forum, which I am more grateful for than any of you could ever imagine, But I have a webcam issue I just can't figure out. Heres my question. My webcam does not work in Skype while it works fine with Cheese.

I found following path in forums and tried it:

In Skype I selected Options/Video Devices/ Test

The webcam light is on but I see only blank screen. In Terminal, it gives following error message:

I use Ubuntu 10.04
Skype 2.1.0.81

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Webcam Does Not Work For Skype?

Apr 20, 2011

I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.

I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Webcam And Tv Tuner Don't Work?

Jul 18, 2011

My tv tuners works under vlc only, my webcam only works in vlc and xaw tv, I tried skype and it didn't detect either one. However in Puppy Linux both of these worked flawlessly, they were both detected in skype. here's v4l-info.

Code:
### v4l2 device info [/dev/video0] ###
general info
VIDIOC_QUERYCAP[code]....

There is also a /dev/video2 but when I try v4l-info /dev/video2 the terminal hangs and I have to close it out. Also I've tried.

Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype

It didn't work. Also gstreamer-properties doesn't start. I don't know if it's related or not.The first was that I couldn't even get it to boot off of the cd in order to install it, I had to use a usb.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microdia/Trust-Webcam Won't Work

Jan 21, 2010

I've just bought a new, cheap webcam. The manufacturer is "Trust", who builds chips of Microdia in their products. So, I plugged my new webcam, noticed that the driver obviously is missing and I finally decided to use Google.

Well, there were some tutorials which include manual installation of gspca (which should be included in the recent kernel files, but somehow isn't). So..I tried the manual installation and it aborts with the message, that there was some error in one of the code files..however.

I continued searching for a solution and found it on the German Ubuntu community page, ubuntuusers.de. Their wiki says that I have to run the following commands that download and compile the right drivers for my webcam. Or at least they should do so.

Code:

Code:

Code:

Code:

Code:

Code:

Code:

And eventually it should work properly. So far the theory. In fact it aborts at exactly this point:

Code:

And gives the following error message:

Code:

Well, urm. I guess I'll have to install that missing module..somehow, but I do not really have hunch.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Webcam Used To Work, Now Broken (maybe Update Related)?

Oct 31, 2010

Just when I thought I was getting my Ubuntu 10.04 system stabilized and really usable, the webcam magically stopped working. When I first installed 10.04, the webcam worked perfectly right out of the box. Tonight, I tried to start the video in a Skype conversation, and nothing. Video preferences in Skype showed no options for a camera. Rebooting the machine didn't help.

The one relevant thing I can think of that happened between the last time it worked and tonight is installing a number of updates. I'm not sure how to look up which packages were installed when -- I'm happy to run commands if someone can provide them.

Unfortunately, I don't remember how it was configured before. Since it was working, I didn't look at /dev to see where the camera shows up. At the moment, there is no /dev/video*. Clearly the system doesn't recognize that the camera is there, but it did before.. I don't recall device specifics. I looked online for a spec sheet that would say who is the webcam manufacturer, but I can only find the resolution. Tomorrow I have to boot into Windows to do some other work and I can get hardware info then. The machine is an MSI A6200 220US; the specs seem not to be available on MSI's website anymore.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Intel CS110 - Webcam Does Not Work On Skype?

Apr 18, 2011

I am currently running Lucid 10.04 Ubuntu through Wubi and am having MAJOR problems with my webcam. I can use this webcam on windows vista without a problem and very nice picture quality, but when I try and use it on Ubuntu I run into some snags. The webcam is connected and works, kind of, on "cheese", but when I run a test on skype it is just a black box.I have found some code through the forums that allows me to run skype via terminal and will let my webcam work as well as it will on Cheese. Now, when it does run the picture is very blue and dark as well as extremely laggy compared to when ran on Windows Vista.
