Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flash Content Covered With Pink Layer

Mar 10, 2011

I try to watch flash content but everything is covered with a pink layer... (see attachment file). I am using firefox 3.6.1.5 (same prob with opera!) and flash 1.0.2.r152 in ubuntu 10.10 with compiz disabled and GPU Override set to true (no difference with false..) I tried FlashAID for a clean setup and I have only flashplugin-installer on my laptop (no gnash or libswf...), I also tried it with the package "adobe-flashplugin" same problem. This and the a2dp-skips are my last problems before a perfect setup.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Flash Audio - Can't Hear Any Sound From Flash Content Displayed In Fire Fox

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 beta. After installing the flash player, everything worked fine. All other sounds work fine, and I made another user account as a test, and that account has full audio functionality, including flash...

Ubuntu :: Chromium: Allow Local Content To Use Flash/javascripts

Feb 20, 2011

I like Chrome and Chromium seems really nice on ubuntu. In Preferences -> Under the Hood -> Content Settings -> Javascript, I have selected no javascript. I then go to Exceptions to enter file:///* or similar but the input control doesn't accept this. It seems to want to a domain name and doesn't like forward slashes.

I've looked in the Preferences file but after adding a dummy exception I see no details of that exception. Anyone know where these exceptions are so I can try to manually edit?

Fedora :: Firefox 4 / No Flash Content Is Working

May 20, 2011

I've been struggling with Firefox and Flash for a while now and I'm finding that Firefox 4 has pretty well broken. No flash content is working in it at all but it seems pretty difficult to locate to remove and reinstall. I think I installed Firefox 4 from the Mozilla website originally. Most stuff works in Opera but I've been firefox for a long time so reluctant to change. I've searched for forums for similar problems but can't seem to see anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox 3.5 but that's not fixing the issue.

Every time after I resume from suspend, firefox freezes up to 7sec at "flashed" sites. That is very annoying. If I disable the adobe flash plugin, it is smooth without flash. If I restart my laptop, everything goes flawlessly. It did not if I restart the X service. This also affects the chromium on both the smooth scroll and the freezing at flashed sites. The .tar.gz contained a .so file, but the installation instructions for the flash player said I should see an installer file in the .tar.gz, but I do not. I can't believe I can't even get flash player working. Their instructions said to check under "Help > About Plugins" but obviously Firefox does not and has never had such an option. I hate Adobe.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Synfig - Everything Invisible On Creating New Layer Or Shape

Apr 3, 2010

I've been interested in Synfig for a while. In the last version of Ubuntu, there were some problems so I couldn't install it. Yesterday I remembered the program and decided to try it on 9.10. I was amazed, it installed fine and everything worked just how it should. Then later last night, I must have done something because everything turned invisible and when I created a new layer or shape, nothing new appeared.

I fiddled with it for a while and then reinstalled the program a total of like 3 times just in case that would help. Then, I went straight to the Synfig site and downloaded the newest version. It looked better, different, but it behaved exactly the same. I'm very confused and I would like to use Synfig, it seems amazing. I assume there's some little thing I missed or something I pressed that I shouldn't have. Here are screen shots of both versions.

Debian Multimedia :: MPlayer Video Output In Layer Beneath Console Text

Jan 26, 2011

When I try to play a dvd and give mplayer no options, it defaults to "X11" for the video output, which maxes out the cpu. To get around this, firstly I tried to play the dvd using "cvidix" in the console.

I used the following command:
mplayer -ao alsa -vo cvidix -fs -framedrop -stop-xscreensaver -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://1
This played the dvd, but the console text was still visible over the top of the movie; i.e. mplayer was playing in the layer beneath the console text

Then I tried using xvidix in X:
mplayer -ao alsa -vo xvidix -fs -framedrop -stop-xscreensaver -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://1
This gives a green line about 5mm thick down the right side of the screen, but other than that it is ok.

Ubuntu :: BBC Flash (NOT Iplayer) / "This Content Doesn't Seem To Be Working. Try Again Later"?

Flash works fine for ....., the guardian, anything really but when play pressed on any video it tries to load and then finally a message comes up saying "This content doesn't seem to be working. Try again later".

This is not an iplayer problem, its the embedded flash videos in the BBC site. I'm behind a proxy but housemate's computers all work fine with it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Low Performance Playing HD Content?

Dec 6, 2010

my friend has a dell inspiron 4600 desktop that we recently install ubuntu on to replace windows xp on. now when we try to play some hd videos in vlc player it's pretty low frame rate but i'm not sure why. if we play 720p on videos it's pretty low frame rate too. in windows xp he could play these videos flawlessly. we tried installing a nvidia driver but it stops the desktop from working. in 10.04 the driver installed fine, however, in 10.10 after installing the driver on next boot it would start up at just a terminal. not a terminal window but just a black screen with white text on the entire monitor. i could only fix it by editing the xorg.conf changing a field that said "device: nvidia" to "device: nv". that driver may also be causing a problem.

if i cannot find a solution we will reinstall windows xp which i rather not do because i think ubuntu runs better. also, we installed xubuntu-desktop package so we are running xfce instead of gnome.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Pink Screen BSOD

Jun 25, 2010

I downloaded an x64 version of the latest ubuntu 10.04 desktop. Burned it to a DVD at 1x speed in DVD Decrypter and upon booting up I got a pink screen that would sometimes change colors to purple, black, or grey. I thought it was a bad DVD so I burned another copy, didn't work. Maybe my download got corrupted and re downloaded it and burned it again didn't work.

Used the universial usb installer to install the iso to my new usb key which i removed all the contents before installing. This time I get to the black menu screen, except when I go to install to hard disk I get that same error again. Pink/purple screen most the time and flickering for the bottom 3/4 of my screen. If I reboot my pc the flickering still persists even in the BIOS and windows. I have to either reinstall my nvidia driver or wait like 20mins for it to fully dissipate.

p5w-dh deluxe (latest BIOS drivers) 2TB SATA I'm trying to install it on. I shrunk the partition down by 100GB to install ubuntu and pcbsd for each 50GB. I got windows 7 x64 and xp 32bit on the same hard drive which I arragned with EasyBCD e6600 8800gtx (latest windows drivers)

After all this I installed ubuntu 9.10 x64 on a DVD and pcbsd aswell they both installed perfectly no problems at all. Ubutnu I think installed on a different hard drive because it didn't detect the free partition space. There is defiantly something at least to my knowledge with the ubuntu DVD but it only appears on my hardware and temporary BIOS flickering is beyond strange.

So I'm wondering how I can troubleshoot this? I waited till ubuntu 10.04 came out to install ubuntu and I'm stuck with 9.10. And I'm very afraid to upgrade for this reason. The last think I want is a pink screen unable to be repaired because the USB/DVD won't work. Or should I wait for a more stable release or is ubuntu 10 crap all-together?
